I'll for sure do more like this. I'll have to find a way to keep it interested on tracks I already know, though. The only track left in the area I haven't tried is Thermal.
Which is exactly why I just invited you to a private group on Facebook. We'll likely rent the track out sometime by the end of the year. I'll do personal R&D out there on my Integra, which is continuing to teach me new tricks.
Great video and driving! This video always cheers me up. I like how we can hear you but can barely makeout what you're saying (like all instructors I've had) and the style of the subtitles (including spelling) you've added. I really hope you do more local tracks like streets, button, etc.
Thank you! I've had enough requests to do more that I think I basically have to...just hard to find the time while I'm building a new racecar. It sucks away literally my entire life. Hopefully I can get my ish together enough to make more soon :)
Looking for a instructional video for Big willow in preparing for Saturday as it is my first time going there. Glad I found this video! Entertaining and informative 👍
Hope my video helps for your first time! If I have one piece of advice, it's stay to the left 10000000x farther than you think you need to in the final corner.
Good laps. That transition from the uphill to downhill on turn 4 can be murder. I swear I've never gotten it quite perfect. Also that big dip and the exit of turn 9 scares the $#!+ out of me.
Thank you! I keep threatening to do more, but it seems like every time I'm at the track these days it's a high stakes race and I don't have the bandwidth or time to make something like this. I will again someday!
Been hopeful to get my f100 or mazdaspeed6 out there on willow and grab some seat time here. Gran turismo Reddit brought me to this video and I am so glad it did. Hands down one of my favorite videos on UA-cam now. Might not be quite as quick on the track because I don’t want break too many parts on the speed since they are hard to find but will definitely pull through the straights hood with that car.
Great laps! I don't think you need to brake for 2, and you'll get more by going full throttle through 8 and being a little earlier on the brakes coming out of it before 9. Wider through 4 will work better once you get the line right.
Thanks Jack! I promise I've gotten better at Big Willow since then. I never went back in this same car, but in my racecar (IS300) I think I'm doing all the things you suggest here.
loved the commentary, had some good insight. After watching a porsche crash in an another video on that pylon turn, watching your car handle the oversteer seems much more controllable.
A rear engine car like a 911 can be a bit tricky to handle when the rear starts to slide. But, once you get a really good feel for it and develop a great sense for oversteer control, the 911 is especially equipped to USE that oversteer to get great exit speed.
As you know from working with John, sometimes the car determines the line. If the suspension is not set up to handle a specific bump, crest, or undulation on the "ideal" line, it can be overall better to avoid the offending piece of pavement or adjust the approach to have less steering angle at that point. Thanks!
Valid point. Are you restricted in the way you can set the car up? The 240Z I co-drive with him was far from well setup. Eibachs and koni yellows. Miatas I have driven there on KWs also like the same line as the Datsun which is why I asked. Thanks!
@@ultimateracingtips2799 Restricted by $$$. The crazy engine swap on this car changed the front steering geometry, and not for the better. It behaves completely differently from any other Miata I've ever driven. Notice how active I have to be on the wheel, it's like that even with fresh tires. It's also affected by curbs and bumps much more than other Miatas. The car is fast, it's just...weird.
@@NikRomanoRacing I'm headed there next weekend for a time attack. Never turned a single lap there besides a sim. I have to start making videos again for sponsors so I'll put something together
all those skid marks headed off the pavement at turn 3 make you think don't they. The speed you can carry through turn 8 is kind of scary for me. I don't have a race car, but 300 hp will get you going pretty quickly. It is a blast though.
I saw a few people stuck on the hill outside of 3 that day. It can certainly catch you out if you aren't careful. The speedometer in this car isn't accurate since the outer tire diameter is smaller than the S2000 the cluster and drivetrain came out of (though the transmission and final drive gearing are the same). Not that you can really see what it's saying anyway... For reference, I just did a McLaren event there, and cruised through T8 at 120mph in a 650s. I say "cruised," because I wasn't even near the car's limit at that speed.
I hate not know what car someone is driving on these....I imagine people that follow this channel know but I am just surfing themes...I am guessing this is an mx5?
"still gave it a little lift there cause im a little girl" lmfao
That is the best track overview I've ever seen. Had to share it on my page. Great work Nik!
Jeez, that's the best feedback I've ever gotten haha. Thank you!

This is most entertaining onboard video that exist. I love how it progressively gets more crazy.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
That was both educational and entertaining! Thanks for a great vid!
Excellent! Willows very unique. Fantastic driving 👏

My favorite narrated video ever. great job!
Thanks Denis! Someday in another life when I have more time, I'll do more stuff like this.

Glad it was helpful!
How am I just finding this video? Awesome driving especially on bald tires.
Great video. Thanks for the narrative. Excellent explanation throughout the run.
Thank you Nick!
I'll be going there for the first time in a few weeks. I enjoy your commentary!
Hope my video helps for your first time! If I have one piece of advice, it's stay to the left 10000000x farther than you think you need to in the final corner.
I was just playing Gran Turismo and fell in love with Big Willow, and your video made this love even more. Also your commentary is 10\10. Great video!
Thank you!
Exciting shit! Subscribed. I came looking for a lap of big willow in a Miata...stayed for the commentary. 😂
That was awesome. Thank you
You're welcome!

Awesome vid! I Took notes for sure
you got my sub. you should do more videos like this, just a fun time at the track with the great commentary. super entertaining.

That was intense!
Geez! This video is sick!!! Love the commentary, was I even asking myself if you're commenting while driving lol So good!
Thanks! Yep, I did it live.
I really enjoyed watching this!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Very entertaining and informative! I should have watched your video before my first time at Big Willow. You need to do more track commentaries!
I'd love to do more. Just need the extra time 😅
Nik - you need to create your own track video series. Well done!
I'd love to! Just need to be able to go to the track again...
Greatest tutorial video ever!!!
awesome video and great driving!!!
Thank you Anthony!
One of the best track videos I've seen in a long while. Well done and entertaining! Nice driving man.
Glad you enjoyed it!
First time out there on Friday. This video helped with a couple questions I had. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I enjoyed the hell out of that!
Glad you liked it! Four years later, I've finally started making content consistently. Consider giving the new stuff a try!
Cracking me up Nik. Too funny

holy shitt that's a fúking exciting driving video . greetings from germany
Thank you! Glad Germany likes my dumb sense of humor.
This video has actually got me excited for Big Willow in a couple weeks. It looks fun. hahaha

Occasionally comes back to this vid just because of 'to Gogh by' and ends up enjoying the whole ride
NOOOO UNDERSTEER NOOOOOI!!!
Funniest commentary every on a lap.
Thanks!
Great job on the video audio. Excellent job. had me cracking up. I'd pay you to do the V.O. on my videos.
Thank you! If I had more time, I'd totally do it -__-
I learned this track co driving with guys like John Morton. Not the line we take through T1. Not a bad way to be safe though. Nice laps.

1:36 in a under powered miata is flying for a newbie. Bet you could drop a couple seconds after about 20 more pucker laps. Cool video
Unfortunately we never took this car back after I learned the track. I did do low 32s in my IS300 racecar later though!

had pretty much the exact same experience my first time at big willow.
Amazing car control and a sense of humour. Good jokes add 50HP to the car:)
Guess I needed great jokes to keep up with Doug and the Porsche in the straights, then XD
Awesome! 😂
I like the spirit
I like your taste in videos ;)
Wanna have some real fun, try that track on a bike.👍🏻
I'm a big girl and can confirm I would lift there as well. The track and the car is scary! Much dust.
Trust me, the dust at buttonwillow is scarier. It has actual spores in it that will give you lung disease. Going off at Willow is nuthin.
I've seen that silver corvette so many times b4
Very nice lap that last one. Now try doing that on iRacing.
I'm good 😅
Like it.
Damn your car sounds nice
Thank you! It's a stock Honda F22 engine, with pretty open exhaust.
Is that corvette the number pi car?
I can't remember the number...He's the lead instructor at Extreme Speed, though.
Half a tire off......... is still half a tire on
I like your optimism.

Never drama.

It's a 1995(ish) Miata, with the engine and transmission from an S2000. Thanks for watching!
Needs more V8
