I scooped up this Mid Century style desk from Facebook Marketplace because I knew that I could give it a high end herringbone makeover. Watch me create a stunning wood detail on a serious budget using popsicle sticks from the dollar store.

I think you mentioned it in another video, but what kind of heater is that? We live in Maine and the garage won't be warm enough to do projects in again until April!

This desk turned out beautifully. I love the herringbone look. I have learned working with popsicle sticks in crafting that if you tape a pack together with painters tape you can cut all of them off together using a miter saw. It is so quick and save your hands from scissor pain. Great work!

I am absolutely in love with this. I'm gonna tell you why too. I'm currently doing up a buffet (so many problems, learned so much) which has taken some time. That's my first proper piece to flip and I'm keeping it because I'm in love with it. After that I have my daughter's new-to-her (but broken in places) dresser. After repairs she has picked out a stunning poster to have decoupaged on the front of it (possibly some blending to match the poster too). If we go for blending that's two complete firsts for me - decoupage AND blending. Holy moly, I even thought about building a new base for it and just cutting off the damaged base. But that's pushed aside - for NOW. After that, I've promised to do my son's dresser. Handle fell off it, 2 drawers jamming. It's painted black with chipping on the paint. He was secretly thinking about dumping it but I won't hear of it. Won't take much to get it back working properly. I'm going to paint it in midnight blue from fusion. Didn't want to just sand and paint and wanted to do SOMETHING with his dresser to make it something special that he'd love again. Also, the cat kicked over the jar of paint and spilled half of it so needed to conserve paint. Didn't know what to do. Then I saw this video and fell in love. So many ideas - stain sticks maybe? Then whitewash over them maybe? I immediately saw it on the drawers of his dresser with beautiful gold and leather hardware. Beautiful. And I'd need less paint too. Perfect! Problem solved. Thanks Kate.
Also, thank you and many other fabulous furniture flippers/restorers here on UA-cam. Without you guys I wouldn't have the knowledge and the confidence to even consider doing any of these things. A few months ago, the only furniture flipping I had ever done was paint my mother's kitchen chairs and changed the fabric on the seat pads. And now I've got a selection of brushes, 2 sanders and I even bought myself a drill. I've a bigger selection of sandpaper than our local hardware shop - seriously! I've been opened up to a whole new world now and I'm loving the journey. Thank you so much.
