I scooped up this Mid Century style desk from Facebook Marketplace because I knew that I could give it a high end herringbone makeover. Watch me create a stunning wood detail on a serious budget using popsicle sticks from the dollar store.

Beautiful Job
I think you mentioned it in another video, but what kind of heater is that? We live in Maine and the garage won't be warm enough to do projects in again until April!
This desk turned out beautifully. I love the herringbone look. I have learned working with popsicle sticks in crafting that if you tape a pack together with painters tape you can cut all of them off together using a miter saw. It is so quick and save your hands from scissor pain. Great work!
Oh that’s brilliant!
Genius!!!
I'm in the process making this myself and I used a paper Cutting board. Worked great!
This looks impressive! I couldn’t find the “mistakes,” but even if I could, it’s still night and day compared to what it was. 👍
Top left and bottom right drawers. Two popsicle ends are lined up instead of stacked. Still beautiful and hardly noticeable
Angie at “Transend Furniture “ says that you are “ a painting wiz with an incredible eye for color”. I agree! You also have a great talent for design! Popsicle sticks never looked so good😍. I just love this desk and the chair you put with it !! 🙏
Well said.
Love this so much! Great job! ❤
That herringbone idea was perfect for this mid-century modern piece. Kinda levels it up and makes it feel more high-end. All from dollar store craft sticks. I love it!
This is GENIUS, but that's not surprising coming from you. I love your ideas! You're an inspiration Katie! Great job and thank you so much for sharing this absolutely STUNNING transformation! Wow!
Ingenious. I could not spot the herringbone that you said was off.
I really didn't see any pattern mistake... it's just wholesome awesomeness!!! Great work!!!
❤️ From 🇮🇳
Omg Katie. Love this. I just received a white laminate dresser for free and I wanted to add some wood to it. This ideal is perfect. Brava 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼.
wonderful beginning.... I could feel the cold!
This is the most stunning piece of furniture I have ever seen!
When I first heard that you're going to use popsicle sticks it kind of frightened me a little bit however after watching how you applied it and what you did to protect it peace turned out stunning something that you should be very proud of thank you so much for sharing always enjoy your DIYs and learning something new God bless you my dear friend
I shall never look at an ice-lolly stick the same way again! What more tricks do you have up your sleeve? Keep them coming Katie please.
I’m loving the Dollar Store Popsicle Stick Vibe!
Wow. I’d never seen a desk like this before until today’s fb marketplace. I wondered what I could do with it.
So here you are a few hours later with a similar desk and an amazing transformation. Thanks Katie from Christine in Australia.
Wow what a change. Love the herringbone look with the painted body of the desk.
Katie this is so beautiful and the popsicle sticks is genius. I can't tell any mistake. You keep coming up with such great ideas. Thank God dollar store has popsicle sticks so you and your family didn't have to go on a popsicle diet.😊
Must try this! Its spectacular!
Love the piece katie
Its so beautiful light to dark its turn out very nice I love the colour that you use
I love how the drawer fronts came out.
I am absolutely in love with this. I'm gonna tell you why too. I'm currently doing up a buffet (so many problems, learned so much) which has taken some time. That's my first proper piece to flip and I'm keeping it because I'm in love with it. After that I have my daughter's new-to-her (but broken in places) dresser. After repairs she has picked out a stunning poster to have decoupaged on the front of it (possibly some blending to match the poster too). If we go for blending that's two complete firsts for me - decoupage AND blending. Holy moly, I even thought about building a new base for it and just cutting off the damaged base. But that's pushed aside - for NOW. After that, I've promised to do my son's dresser. Handle fell off it, 2 drawers jamming. It's painted black with chipping on the paint. He was secretly thinking about dumping it but I won't hear of it. Won't take much to get it back working properly. I'm going to paint it in midnight blue from fusion. Didn't want to just sand and paint and wanted to do SOMETHING with his dresser to make it something special that he'd love again. Also, the cat kicked over the jar of paint and spilled half of it so needed to conserve paint. Didn't know what to do. Then I saw this video and fell in love. So many ideas - stain sticks maybe? Then whitewash over them maybe? I immediately saw it on the drawers of his dresser with beautiful gold and leather hardware. Beautiful. And I'd need less paint too. Perfect! Problem solved. Thanks Kate.
Also, thank you and many other fabulous furniture flippers/restorers here on UA-cam. Without you guys I wouldn't have the knowledge and the confidence to even consider doing any of these things. A few months ago, the only furniture flipping I had ever done was paint my mother's kitchen chairs and changed the fabric on the seat pads. And now I've got a selection of brushes, 2 sanders and I even bought myself a drill. I've a bigger selection of sandpaper than our local hardware shop - seriously! I've been opened up to a whole new world now and I'm loving the journey. Thank you so much.
Katie - you have done it again! Gorgeous
So adorable!
This is gorgeous
Extremely creative idea for rehabbing plastic laminate. By watching your videos, I am getting a keener eye for which techniques work best for different surfaces.
You turned that old desk into something fabulous! Bravo!!!
Just marvelous!!!

Watching again & gotta comment again!!! You have transformed this dowdy laminated desk into a classy, modern piece. I just love it!❤
Looks great to me!
THAT is gorgeous!
Popsicle Sticks! That’s genius I can’t wait to find the right project to try this on.
Love it! ❤️ The use of popsicle sticks was brilliant. They don’t add bulk to the drawer fronts while creating a beautiful pattern and texture.
Genious idea with tracing the drawer on paper and finding the center
I think it looks fantastic, you can’t tell any mistakes since they are soft colors.
You are an artist. Wow how nice this is. It's transformation is astounding.
WOW…WOW…WOW Katie, that is absolutely an amazing transformation 👏👏👏
Great idea with the popsicle sticks which create a much more sleek layer as opposed to anything else.
The use of popsicle sticks was absolutely brilliant what a great cost savings as opposed to having to buy expensive wood thank you for the recommendation
Also great little tip on using the paper bag for the drawer placement! Gonna try that too!
honestly shook that u made this with popsicle sticks AMAZING
Love the technique used on drawers. Who knew that could be done? Awesome!
I am blown away on the herringbone
This might be my favorite piece yet 😍
I've seen this idea with the popsicle sticks trending on tiktok for awhile now but I love the turn out 💖
You do some great work but this piece I think it one of your best. I love it. One of the most dramatic makeovers I've seen. And, considering I'm about to paint a laminate glass-doored cabinet, this video is very timely for me.
I have a bag of popsicle sticks, only a small bag, but will practice the herringbone on a tray to start. I love this, it turned out really good.
I'm OBSESSED with that technique! Well done!
Wowwww amazing job, you have a incredible vision to transform trash to treasure.
I would have passed up this purchase all day long. How you see the potential beauty in a piece is really a talent. If I still lived close to you, I would buy it
This is Gorgeous!! You never cease to amaze me!! You are Talented!! 👏👏👏WOW!!
I normally don't like modern and was sure I wouldn't like this. What a surprise! It is lovely!
Great makeover. Using the popsicle sticks was genius.

Incredible and I don’t see anything but perfection👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I’m in love with this piece. You’ve outdone yourself! It’s so lovely to watch your talent grow and your creativity blossom. Well done.
I love this idea!! I’m flipping some nightstands that have the top in really bad shape and this looks like a great idea to save them without having to remove the whole veneer from the furniture. Thanks for sharing!
That's remarkable! If you made a mistake, I couldn't see it.
I couldn’t find a mistake,,,,,,,I just loved it,,,,,,,thanks for the ideas
I'm dying!!! Who does that with popsicle sticks? This lady is a freakin genius!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Popsicle sticks....BRILLIANT
Love it! I think it would also look great in a terracotta color (in place of the white)
I can’t even notice where the mistake is. As always, you have proved that you are an artist of upcycling.
What a great idea. It is beautiful and practical
😍 Beautiful, Modern Scandi-Style. A new lease of life for something someone might've thrown on the Trash Heap! I'm inspired to do up 2 pieces I have!
Beautiful work! Always enjoy your videos :)
Popsickle sticks - brilliant!
Love this! I don’t know where you get your ideas but they turn out so great!
OMG……
You are indeed theeeeeee best furniture up cycler on U Tube.
This is one project that really is so easy to do with the popsicle sticks……..and what a transformation…….
How did you come up with this idea?……..
Awe, thank you! I’m sure I saw it somewhere while I was scrolling through the internet.
Love how this came out. Chevron pattern is my favorite.
Fantastic as always!!! So impressed with the popsicle stick fronts. You are awesome!
Fabulous transformation!
Holy cow! That’s incredible!
You chose the perfect piece to try this technique. So cheap but cute style! Looks beautiful now especially with your staging. Did you use a topcoat on the wooden accents?
Yes, the same topcoat as the rest of the desk.
I love the effect of the popsicle sticks being a variety of colours. It adds a lot of interest without standing out too much.
Most impressive on youtube too date!!!! This ones going down in history🥰😍😘🤩
Love how this desk came out
Fabulous, so inventive, this was the best ugly to beautiful piece! I applaud your work!

I can’t get over this transformation!! Talk about ugly 1960s to beautiful 2020s! Funny how those popsicle sticks from the Dollar Tree (of all places) made such a difference
