I see some commentators being negative about the Ukrainians saying there will be future offensives. This is giving nothing away because we and the Russians know that Ukraine will continue offensive operations, they have to. The real question is what kind of offensive and to what ends. A large scale land offensive looks unlikely at least until air superiority at least locally is achieved however not the announcement was by the head of Intelligence and special operations who has been responsible for guiding the Black Sea successes and the deployment of long range drones. My personal view is that the offensive will be more black sea operations and deep attacks on Russian economic targets particularly disrupting Russian hydrocarbon exports. The aim to break Russia economically and sow social discord. But that's just a personal view and that's the problem for the Russians - they are clearly dealing fighting people who ace them for planning and thought. I sure the "offensive" will have elements we can foresee but elements we don't and all bundled up in a confusing mix for Russia. Long wars are economic wars (and as I write this the EU just agreed 50 billion in aid to Ukraine)
Russia could shut down economic activity of the EU within several hours, if it had the political will to do so. As for social discord, U.S. and EU have severe social discord problems now already, (see Texas, see Brussels, see Paris, see Berlin, see London etc, etc) Russians aren't fools as to why they would have economic hardships and who is actually responsible and the blame would be squarely put on U.S. and Nato states. With regards air superiority, U.S. led Nato itself hasn't got that ability. Russian air defense and multirole combat aircraft are simply far, far too strong.
If things do go pear-shaped and it looks like Russia succeeding... are NATO countries able to unilaterally get involved? ie. With the obvious threat to Eastern countries could say Poland and/or the Baltic countries decide to support Ukraine directly and come to its aid militarily.
