The funny thing is you could hang the magnet right with the keys and nobody would even know! Great video! Thanks!
Genius! Been racking my brain all day about how to secure something and thank God I came onto this. Thank you!!
Perfect for what I needed. Thank you! An old wooden box hiding in plain sight.
You are a mad genius!!! Love it!
Why not hide it in plain site? Have nails all the way around (either real nails or just heads) making it look like it's been nailed together, and then have that one nail holding it locked. People won't notice that that nail's in the wrong spot.
Genuinely fantastic, I turned a door knob and mounted a magnet in a recess at the base, the made a recess in the box a mounted another magnet backwards so you can use the knob to open it or take it off to pull the nail
I was looking for a simple lock to add to a few drawers in our house to keep curious kids out... This is brilliant, easy and quickly solves the issue.
Thanks so much for sharing.
I love how you make your own things very inexpensively like a 16 penny nail !!!👍
Nice thought boss. I would love to see more on hidden locks. That's genius!
the simple ideas are the most brilliant, and i just used this lock method , works like a champ Thank you Sir
Nice..thank you! Simple, yet much stronger than the plastic gimmicks sold online.
Simplicity is supreme.
Awesome!
BRILLIANT innovation! Extremely clever!
I start searching for magnetic locks a min ago. RF ID, USB cables, ect ect..20-60$. I thought it could be simple.I clicked on your link. I am having a dip too. Thanks for this video! You just saved me time and money. Technology can be so over rated. Last thing I need is a tech product to fail when I am trying to get in to my box. "call a lock-smith"...no thanks, there ain't one within a hundred miles.
This is a great idea for sneaky geocache containers! Thank you.
Love the simplicity! Mahalo for sharing
Better option i thought of before you showed that you were planning on doing. drill a bit into the outside wood from the inside. then drill further into the flap. That way you can have a hidden magnet somewhere else near by & simply slide the magnet from the end further down the flap & it will unlock it without being able to lose the modified nail nor would others see how it is locked.
Keeping it simple is always best. Great video, thanks for sharing
OUTSTANDING!
Thanks a lot for the idea. Very nice and perfectly hidden lock.
👍Great idea. Thanks! 💞
Sheer genius!!! Thank you, this is awesome. Great video!
That’s awesome.... just what I needed. Thanks!
I love this idea! And it definitely saves you money.
Outstanding. Short, sweet, simple but extremely effective. Love it and will use that when I go and make one. You sir just saved me money. Thank you😁
Nicer and simple, I love it!!!
Fantastic , simple and pretty slick thanks for sharing 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You might have just come up with it in an afternoon… But I’ve been running through UA-cam results looking for the better implementations of this technique that I remember seeing awhile back, and yours is better than the previous 5 videos.
So many of them are just so obvious and defeating the purpose, or just not very well positioned/planned. Or entirely over complicated. This one I would use as is, ready to go. 👍
Top marks for simple, easy, effective!! Only thing I would do, leave head on nail, countersink for it 1/16",it blends in; everything else the same!
Nice you just helped me a lot was about to buy a lock . This way cooler and stealth
Good thing you didn't tell anyone.
Awesome just pure awesome!
Clever idea. Go Hokies!
This video is going to come to my house. Thanks for the great idea.
Good stuff! Smart!
That's a great idea!!!!
Thank you!
Great idea
Thank you for the idea, I have a similar box but opens downwards, I followed your steps just mine drops from above.
Love this idea! Have you thought about adding 1 more nail on that side, and 2 more on the other side? The three additional nails you add you could only make 1/2’ and basically create a pattern that allows the main nail to be camouflaged as part of the design? So there is only 1 functional nail, as the other 3 do not go all the way through the outside board? just a thought to add a symmetrical appearance as well as more security. :)
You could then add a slider trim over the corner(s), kind of as a decoration and hiding the evidence of the nail altogether. Lift the trim up and off, then remove pin. Love your method. Thanks.
Brilliant!
Nice.. very nice!
Genius!
U are the man!!!
nice idea!!!
You could even keep the head on the nail, hammer in “accent nails” that are cut down to 1/4in around all the corners and then this one would be the actual lock but wound look like just one of the nails used to make the box.
Butterfly effect. Love it.
So clever!
grab a q-tip and stain that hole next time. i think that would be a better way to do that. great idea sir! cheap and effective design.
Clever Popo!
Can you use this method to lock a double door cabinet?
Good job,
Excellent
There is a better way to do this with exact same materials.
Drill the hole in the doors edge 1/2 inch deeper than length of pin.
Drill side panel 1/2 inch deep to accept pin.
Lock box by sliding magnet across door to drag pin into mating hole in side.
Reverse to unlock.
Advantage is pin is not visible.
ooo very smart. Magic wave opens it!
Very good stealth box. Key is in simplicity!
...but complexity is the key to security.
great idea just a thought to recess the head for better pic up???
Use a q-tip when staining any holes...
good for developing ideas further
Well done good idea we won't tell anyone 😊
very nice
hells yes this was exactly what i was looking for. i’m tired of making boxes and having to use either cheap flimsy hardware or way too expensive locks.
Would this work with a car?
Great idea quick no trouble!!
Brilliant and simple! Kudos for sharing! Do you think the magnet can slide the nail back & forth working from the side so I can use the idea for a concealed lock for a regular door where I cannot use the magnet at the nail end?
It would be worth a try. I think it would work as long as the magnet is strong enough. I’d test it in a scrap piece of lumber first tho.
you are a genius
I did it to perfect idea
You should put a magnet on the inside of the hole to hold the nail firmly inside. Otherwise you could just tilt the box and let the nail fall out. It's a good idea though. Just think it needs a few extra touches.. I would also maybe leave the head of the nail in tact with a few False nails lined up the side of the box. to give you the illusion that its nailed shut.
dude nobody is going to tip it it is bolted to the wall dummy
Pretty big bolt in the center of the box there, bub...
A slightly downward angle would help keep the pin in place.
Love it! And I know you're a Texan. Well donr sir!
I was wondering if you make them for sale. I live in Austin so I'm not that far away. Let me know. I know this video is a year old but it's really cool brother! God gives the ability to create witty inventions!
Proverbs 8:12
Have have you built a knife display cabinet
Maybe a hidden or recessed small metalic spot on top on which to store the needed magnet. An intact nail head, maybe.
Couldn’t help but notice, Go Hokies!
good idea you should make a small entry table and stick the magnet under that and out of sight so its always handy to find in that area nobody would know thats there unless you show them
Nice
Awesome idea! Now how do you keep your kids from watching the video?
Have you beard a knife display cabinet
Ever seen those dart boards that hang on the wall? Have a couple doors n the front and open to reveal the dart board Yep. Good place for a pistol and a box ammo
I did the same thing.
I did about the same thing except I put my pin on the top. The pin still stops the top also.
Any nail to put in a lock
tq i copied yr method but in a different way, the magnetic rod as the lock and use any metal such as key to pull it out
you could add a finish nail to the front and cut a notch on the nail and keep the nail from falling out.
Nice.
It would be good also to add the nail from the top of the box.
ha ha ha ha ha ha.........showing the world how to create a stealthy lock mechanism for a wooden box, great stuff. Hendy to know this kind of thing, One question though.........you have your keys on show, so if someone comes along wanting to take something valuable ......well wouldn't they just take the keys to your vehicle rather than trying to break in to a wooden box ?
You should build the top part into wall make it look slim like hidden
Do you still make these boxes ? I am interested if you do.
i couldn't find the video that you said was on you channel where you mad this. can you link it here?

CLEVER
omg thank you lol

"Don't Ever Tell Nobody About It"
.
Just put it on UA-cam, Nobody watches youTube anyway...
LOL. good Video
Do you sell these
Do you have a video on how you made this?
ua-cam.com/video/GdtWQV1oOiE/v-deo.html
Great short simple sweet solution. Like my pops always told me KISS (keep.it.simple.stupid)
I'd thinner the back plate just on the inside cuz there's very little space inside like for a box that big...
Good job I like it. I think a smaller nail would do the job as well and not be noticeable. If the head was left on and put in a slight countersink it would look more natural.
Are those for sale?
I love that I would try finding a way to integrate the magnet into it so that you can easily grab the magnet and open it rather than getting it
For a perfect hole depth every time: cut the tip off the nail but not the head.
Them drill the hole, not as deep as the nail is long.
Insert the nail. The head should not touch the box or you made the hole too deep.
Mark the nail a tiny bit too long. Cut the head off a the mark.
Put the nail back in, to see exactly how much to grind off to make it perfectly flush.
This will work every time.
Can you give a link to the box build?

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You could drill the hole and then countersink a larger hole and put a wooden cap on the end of the nail. That way it looks like a rounded wood plug and can just grab the knob and pull it out.
Do you still make these boxes ? I am interested if you do.THIS IS MY MAIL IN MEXICO.
