- This secret magnet drawer lock is cheap and simple to add to any existing drawer. The cost for parts is only about $3 per lock.
You can find step by step instructions on how to build this at:

Thank you so much for sharing your smart idea, it is exactly what I wanted.
Genius is something that works in a simple way!
Great idea, thank you for sharing!. Regards from Argentina.
Simple and a great idea - thanks!
Great idea! I love it...
Way cool Doug Thnx for sharing this idea
Thanks!
Great job!
Fantastic. Thanks.
Simple and usefull! It give me an idea, to make pins system with wheels and differents powerfull magnet on it + one hidden pin spot like yours!
Had another idea and went to check UA-cam and find yours. Yours is much more sophisticated then my idea. I thought you had the same idea when you opened up the bottom draw. Then I would put a latch screwed to the bottom of the top draw to stop stop draw from opening.
Thank you. I'm glad you found it useful. I chose not to install a push opener on the locking drawers to ensure that my children do not find their way in.
Great idea. I don't understand a thing at first but I got it figured out. Thanks for this hack.
Can ypu help clarify....how/where do you put the nail??? In the drawer...?
Thanks
that is so cool you just helped me with my school project
nice idea
Thanks I’m looking for ways to do something like this and not have to buy a safe .
🇺🇸👍
I like this
Nice
Great job! Thanks for the good info. I'm working on a similar project, only difference is that I am trying to load the drawer rails with springs so that it "pops" open. Have you tried anything like that?
+Zachary Traylor now there's an idea!!! Thanks!
+Life's a Bench! If you use this secret drawer lock, the back of the drawer should not be resting against the hinge pin. The added friction will keep the magnet from pulling up the pin. Keep that in mind when deciding on your drawer opening mechanism.
I was thinking about this as well. I think it would work. Just have to push in on the front of the drawer to help release the pin.
you should put the magnet into the bottom of a sign or something like that so u can just move the sign to the correct place without fishing for the magnet
What happens if you move the magnet while the drawer is open? Would the pin fall down into the bottom drawer?
Helen Vice the poker chip catches the head of the hinge pin. You won’t be able to shut the drawer though until you move the magnet back in place.
Aaah, I've just realised how that would work. The chip would be positioned above the drawer with the pin always going through it. Thanks.
Really nice job and very cool idea! I'm so lazy, I'm looking for something simple....not cutting, etc to keep my handgun secure in my nightstand
Just drill a hole in the side and put the nail in, the head will stick out still but it would be much more simple lol
Does it work with swinging cabinet doors?
The drawer lock uses a metal hinge pin to catch the back edge of the drawer. The door does not have anything for the hinge pin to "catch" so you'll have to design something that the hinge pin can "catch" and attach it to the inside of the door.
+Doug Stecklein okay thank you so much.

Im also thinking about doing a drawer this way so that the contents can't bump or jam the hinge pin. Unlikely, but just an idea. Nice video, Doug- thanks!
My only concern is the amount of play the drawer has when locked. Anyone looking might notice that and realize there is something hidden behind the face.
Didn't get where to fit it in the drawer, can anyone help?
is it just me or is this video really low volume
tony jones . Yes u r right, its really low volume
It’s just you. I’m having absolutely no problem hearing what he’s saying.
Yep - Really very low volume
I clicked on instruction but keeps saying error
If James Bond sold bedside tables
And what about many people have been seen this hidden lock
Don't matter. The ones this lock is made to help keep out his house won't watch this video. He's giving some bada$$ info and that's all you have to say?
How is the poker chip attached?
Drill a hole through the poker chip and then screw it in.
@@dougdstecklein I saw the two holes in the chip. What is it screwed to? the bottom of the drawer?
@@amystamey4001 It is screwed into the bottom side of the top of your dresser/nightstand.
@@amystamey4001 Check out the instructibles link in the description. Much more detailed instructions.
@@dougdstecklein The link isn't working. It gives a 404 error
did you make your bed before filming so we all think you are a neat and organized person?
Nice idea, but to defeat it all you have to do is flip over the nightstand. :(
true but a weak spring may remedy that
Just have a pin facing the opposite side to counter the gravity
WHAAAAT?!!!!!
WHAT?????
It is not real idea, unless a guy has drawn a "SCHEMATIC".
Why didn't you show a picture of it instead of a who knows what drawing?
Yes, a cross section picture would have been helpful, unfortunately I made the video after everything was already installed. Checkout my Instructables write up: m.instructables.com/id/Secret-Drawer-Lock/?ALLSTEPS
Maybe it will help.
