Its so funny watching schanceh. At the fight around 28, you have a profesionally built group B audi quattro, and going passed it is a small homemade escort. What a genius he is
I can remember watching this on grandstand like it was last week. Schanke was always my idol. The Sachs escort was notorious for kicking ass. 560hp in the 80’s. 😮😮😎
Just nuts! This is the most insane racing on the planet🤯. Huge horsepower numbers and just a complete commitment by the drivers. It’s mad. I will never understand why this type of racing didn’t take off in America....I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying it: great racing, lots of contact, huge horsepower and cool cars; what’s not to like?
These old rallycross take me back to my youth, so great to hear Murray commentating, just his voice on the mic makes me really happy as it brings back many happy memories.
Used to watch swedish rallycross in late 80's and 90's.. they had them all. Group b, pikes peak, insane homebuild Frankenstein projects and of course Saab of all kinds.. plus there was some real prominent names competing. Remember one rather large course in a rock quarry. Really cool track, fast and unforgiving. Rock face on the left and a plunge on the right into the water pit... Danish rally in the 90's also saw a peak of popularity, with many drivers in international championships. Ohh the smell of rubber, oil and hot Corolla clutches
I really wonder what happened to all the cars. Where are they today? I guess some sold to collectors, some crashed and some are maybe still operational?
The original Schanche Escort Xtrac is back in the hands of Mike Endean, who created its transmission. Alamaki's Porsche turned up in vaguely restored form not that long ago, I think. No idea about the likes of Arnesson's LWB Quattro.
I wonder what they do 0-100 kmh and 0-200kmh and 1/4 Mile time and speed also ? They said 16 minutes that a car the same as Shenker could get up to 160 mph in 1/2 mile. Where do these cars get their extra power from ? I wonder what the fuel economy is like ? I also wonder what size the engines are ?
I see what you mean 26 minutes in John Welch Ford Escort XR3 Turbo does 0-100mph (0-161 kph) in 5 seconds. For some reason he got a bad start in that race though.
Back when rallycross was proper independents doing ingenious things, now like everything else it's all corporate boring rubbish more about selling cars for global manufacturers than grassroots sport..
Great old classic but the best one to find and watch is John welch racing a rs20o at I think Croft and they both cannot stop at the Finnish line they both spin out of control god it was a one of dog fight to the end if you can find it you will like it the Astra takes on a rs200 but what a good race
Imagine todays snowflake drivers out of the car stood up, ...far too dangerous, sue somebody LOL. Real motorsport, not a paddle shifter in sight, wonderful.
Back when racing and rallying required actual talent and strength not a single paddle shifter in sight and no power steering its was just a better time for British motorsport
Martin Schanche is probably the only driver who deservedly got a laugh from the audience if he drove off and was seriously injured. A more unsympathetic person on a race track must have been hard to find.

I remember watching this as a youth on Saturday afternoons.
Racing at it's best. Drivers that actually drove the cars to the limit.
Absolutely marvelous stuff! Murray Walker commenting is the icing on the cake!

Those Xtrac Mk3 Escort's were beasts.
Mr rallycross Martin schanke's idea. He draw and engineered the x-track system
had me thinking.....is rs200 a total mistake!!!??
Best years of Rllycross i was fortunate enough to be at this meeting awesome racing!

Schanche used to run after Alamäki in pits with spanner in his hands in some occations, what a character, and what a racer.
What a legend! He also buildt the xtrac system. A mechanical genius
He’s the king!
This was the best Rallycross event I've seen to date. Ty
Brilliant , loved 80s rally cross!

Murray.. He gave 100% regardless if it was F1, Rally cross or GoCart. What a legend.
Lucky enough to have been at Lydden Hill for this.
Same here Barry 👍
The turbo lag on Schache Escort was unreal 😂👍🏻🏴
Wauw we need this back!!! Absurd horsepower, different classes in one race… ❤
So good, thanks again 👍👏

New subscriber and long old fan man
Welcome aboard!
The way Schenke loads that Escort @1:45 is absolutely astonishing
I'm willing to bet there were a great many Mark Rennison fans back in the day.
I really wonder what happened to all the cars. Where are they today? I guess some sold to collectors, some crashed and some are maybe still operational?

Schanche helped Welsh build his car, the sacs-gearbox was Schanches own "invention"
Infact why would Mr Rallycross call it Mike Endeans company name ??
Come on stop chatting shit 🤣
The way that mk3 rwd rennison escort screams tho!
It literally looks like welch is letting off 😂 that porche is crazy 15:15
Petter Solberg adoptó la manera de festejar de Martin Schanche 🙂
0-160 kmh in 5 seconds..insane damn
And that’s on dirt.
@@BlitzMekanika yes.. I can imagine the weight was so low.. Maybe below 950 kg..

@@2175Wook at this time Mr Schanke's xtrac esort was faster then an F1 from 0-100-0 mph
bunter6 i agree totaly m8
What was Schanche's lap times in this event compared to todays quickest times ?
Still verry fast 😂
XR3 is Uber amazing

BEST CHANNEL EVER ❤, 🍺 cheers big ears.
i wonder if there has ever been a better handling escort than that scanke car in its pomp
What’s a good lap around this track with modern cars?
The tracks slightly different now.
51:08 I am drooling
The ultimate form of motor sport?
Real rally cross not the rubbish they feed you today!

I can still smell the oil 😳
I'm not surprised. You'd have been breathing it for weeks afterwards!
Nittimäki`s Porsche was no "630hp" but way moore. Just look how it outruns Allamäki`s 760hp Porsche ua-cam.com/video/vhHcUuIaT0g/v-deo.html
