- One point thriller in Dunedin. What a game!! All Blacks claim their first win under new coach Razor. Good to get the win but scrappy in patches.
England really gave it their all and stuck it to the All Blacks all game.

I expect the AB’s to go up another level next week but credit to England they had a great game.
What a lot of people are not acknowledging is that quite a few of the English players have very little experience of test rugby - and as you quite rightly state - can only improve as time goes on.
The other narrative (first game together etc) is something that regularly surfaces in the July and November test window, depending on your perspective your team can be exhausted after a long hard season or battle hardened and the other side of it is undercooked and underprepared against fresh and champing at the bit.
Both hemispheres media emphasise on the aspect they feel is relevant.
Hard match to watch. First game up for new ABs team with little time together. Choppy to watch. Some moments great, some moments frustration at simple mistakes…I’m 62yo so have been raised with an AB side that monstered opposition….so it’s always hard watch now especially with rule changes.
Have tonne of respect for Englands performance and can see that both ABs and England can only get better. Both sides will be taking good lessons from this. Let’s hope next week we can see a huge improvement and some of the rugby that I grew up on.

Was at the match, there was no shot clock on the screen.
Ahhh i’m sure the commentators said the shot clock was up…
@@KickOnRugby They asked McKenzie about it afterwards, he said he's been in some places where they do show the shot clock but there wasn't one up. He just times it in his head. He also mentioned that the ref had warned him on other kicks that he needed to speed things up. Ultimately the ref got it right and DMac admitted he needs to be better.
I think the game was played at pace😮the English played out of their skins hard out tackling and running, quick tricky passing, their fitness was really good, they were playing the ABs game. The ABs will only get betta more games new coach, teamwork more games more experience they will be a force soon, next week😮😊

First game for the ABs since the WC final and they have been together for 12 days. England have played six games and been together for 7 months. That said it was a great test!

Spot on mate. Our boys were clunky. But sometimes ugly is good enough. Stoked they composed themselves to find a way to grind it out. I don’t think we’ll see to much change straight away, but little bits of progression leading into the R/Championship.

England will go up another level at Eden Park. Remember England always sneaks against the All Blacks in the past and they're not going to give up that stinky characteristic trait against a deadly enemy. In Dunedin, the All Blacks tried out a couple of set plays to see if the Poms can ID them which they did not so both ended up with two perfectly executed tries! Malo burraddas! Next week it might be worth punting a couple of tonnes on Razors and the boys.
I think England gave it their all this past week and they’ll get touched up in Eden park👀

Mixed thoughts on ABs. 100% agree with u. Playing too much in their own half. Seemed like poor tactics and thought ut caused the bad dmac kick that led to England's 2nd half try. BUT, they played tough, max effort against a fantastic opponent in a tough match. So happy although not satisfied.

I think what did it for the AB's was the high ball and the kicking game at the end.
At the end yeah. Took awhile to figure it out. They’ll be a different beast at Eden park next week I reckon🤝

AB's always start slow, takes a couple of games to build cohesion. Normally we play tier 2 nation or 2 to get up to speed slowly

We left 21 points on the board i think. The Ardie Savea knock on, and the two lost lineouts were 3 try scoring opportunities we shanked. Glad we could pull out the test when it got tight though.

SA scrum straight, the AB tight head scrummaged in and up on every scrum. The ref let him get away with it all match. The AB's also fell on the ball at countless rucksand played the ball on the ground; the ref let them get away with that. Eng were offside countless times, the ref let them get away with that. The ref let the game flow but at the cost of most of the rules in the rugby rule book.
I’m not too clued up on the dark arts of scrummaging. But I also thought there were a few “whats going on there” at ruck time
To be fair, All Blacks struggle in Dunedin and England squandered the chance to beat them there before going to the house of pain that's Eden Park for test 2.
Will be a tough one at Eden park for sure!!!

@@KickOnRugby Their lineouts were not good at all - they asked Razor afterwards why they were struggling at lineouts and his answer was,"Maro?" They dominated the scrum, I think they lost 3 of their own scrums but 2 came in the first 8 minutes. So for 72 minutes they scrummaged well. So I'd say set piece was a mixed bag. I would like to see Asofo Aumua get some more game time next week.

I thought Barret should have replaced Dmac. I timed Dmac’s kick and thought he still had 5 seconds. Good 1st up game by AB’s. England though were excellent throughout and still didn’t get the W. Good review. Pai ehoa.
From the time he signaled he had 60 seconds. You can clearly see DMac signal with this thumb, that's when the timer starts. The ref gave him 60 seconds and a hair before he blew the whistle. You are probably going by when the ref signaled that they would take the kick, but the timer had already started. DMac took too long, the ref was correct.
Cheers brother. Yeah from my understanding the timer is up on the big screen it’s in the kickers hands to make sure they kick within the time. Sucks but just one of those rules they’ll have to adjust to💪

ABs do struggle with rush defences. ABs may need more depth maybe. Give Cortez a crack?
Yep England rush D was intense. I thought ABs were setting pretty deep but they’ll adapt for 2nd test. I think if TJ isn’t fully 100%. Christie will start at Ratima bench for sure
Great game 50/50 really but England had 5 games to get ready for this opportunity that doesn't happen & haven't for 23yrs & the ABs Showed enough to get home quite confident at eden park with our the Reputation we do it more comfortable ede
