I've actually heard in other countries, when people ask their friends, "How are you?", they actually expect an honest answer. The idea you're supposed to just answer "fine" to that question is maybe just a hangup we Americans have.
* When people are small talking, they switch from topic to topic without a care for any sort of main theme or topic; they seem to value others who can switch their train of thought quickly. * Small talk doesn't come naturally to me because I tend to think about one thing at a time for a long time. * The way I handle small talk is to not care about any subject being discussed and just enjoy that I'm around someone or some people that I like.
It doesn't have to be someone you know! I work in retail.... small talk is what we do... I use it as a tool to spring board onto more interesting conversations. I definitely don't feel comfortable telling anyone that I do small talk with how I actually am (like even my coworkers) not because I don't want to share, but because I don't want to burden people with my emotional state. But I find it confusing/a little annoying when others don't follow the same rules. Like I'm the autistic one, how am I doing this neurotypical thing better than the rest of you? XP I especially find it odd when complete strangers tell me their problems but sometimes interesting conversations come out of that so I don't always mind. And it's my own fault for asking, anyway.
This feels like the comedic version of a long discussion with my psychologist about the concept of small talk, lol. They were trying to explain it and I just had a confused look on my face the whole time.
I outright laughed out loud at the end, because it's so true! Though the weather tends to be an actually serious subject for us a lot of the time because we spend a lot of time outside riding and working, and it's important for us to know what to expect in the mountains vs. in town.
Ah, small talk. I am to the point where partaking in small talk is automatic and i often don't realize I said anything until after I've said it. Love it /s! And it's pointless! Completely and utterly pointless!!
Honestly, i dont like this video. I mean, i get that its supposed to help us understand what smalltalk is, but we shouldn't be normalizing it anymore than it is. We should allow ourselves to answer honestly and encourage genuine deeper connections with people.

Clicked. So. Fast.
Small talk.
Literally WHY.

"You have to know them."
**blind dates has entered the chat**
Literally PERFECTLY explained. Thoroughly backwards.
Is it having a sense of community. In a non verbal way. Like reminding each other they exist in this community. Idk I could be rambling
Perfect explanation!!!!!!!
I LOVE IT👍👍❤️❤️‼️ THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I love this. More ones like this.

Edit: I had to edit my comment because I didn't have a period at the end of my sentence and it bothered me greatly. Is this an autistic thing? Anyone?
This is pretty spot on lol
This is SO hilarious, informative, and just all around relatable :). Thanks for the video!

The intention was more to make fun of it than to teach people how it works.
