    People seem to forget that the 944 platform was tested at the crucible of Lemans after it's mundane beginnings. A properly tuned 944 is a track weapon.
    Think about this, out of a gigantic field of cars the 924 GTS race cars finished 12th overall at Lemans, not in their class, but overall against GT1, GT2, GT3, LMP, Prototypes! Astonishing.
    The 944 platform is criminally underated and that's now changing with their value beginning to rocket for well kept examples. About time!
    Respect!

      I'm a big racing fan and didn't even look into the history of it. That is AMAZING! If you liked this video, and you like Porsche, I have video in the works that you will LOVE. It involves a 962. Hopefully will be filming again at the start of the 2023. Fingers crossed :)

    Graphite metallic was a $695 paint option - in 1986 money, or about $1800 in today’s money. Most of the eras Porsches are regular paint, the metallics are PP&G enamel and Glasurit enamel urethane topcoat, which was a state of the art European paint combination. I have a 1987 nautical blue metallic example and these cars are hauntingly beautiful.

    I just bought a 1986 944 Turbo from the original owner, and it has only 90K miles. It came with all the original manuals , service records,and everything else. BTW,the dude in Polo T-shirt looks, and talks like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. 😊

      There is nothing better than buying a car from someone who has everything it came with. Hahah I never even thought of that but he was a great guy and I can now call him a friend. Another great reason I love doing car reviews, getting to meet new people.

    The Diamond on the rocker panel is so you can locate the socket the jack goes into.

      Maybe it is because I was born in 91 that I don’t like most 80s cars 😂 idk why, but most just don’t do it for me. There are a few from those two decades that I really like though. The RS200 for example. One of my dream cars.

    The 0 to 60 time is skewed because you have a shift point at 55 mph. This automatically causes a lag. Worthy red line at 60 mph, this car would easily hit 0 to 60 in 7 seconds

    Hmm, I wouldn’t say the 80’s was a bad time for design, maybe for build quality, but not design. The term “Modern Classic” culminates in the 80s. A bad time for design would be today, where every car looks the same. No make has an iconic look anymore, and car makers rip off each other’s lines.

    • @Carsideration
      @Carsideration  2 роки тому

      I am an early 90s baby so to me, the 80s never did it for me and probably never will as far as designs go. There are a few cars I like though haha I think today's cars look better than the 80s even though they do all look alike. Case and point, the new Mustang looks like a Camaro. And of course every SUV it pretty much the same.

      @@Carsideration I think it’s really easy to conflate “new” design with good design. Let’s just say that with cars, the further back you go, the more the design of cars resembled art work. The opposite is true today. Early on, every car maker had its own design language it was perusing, its own story it was trying to tell through their designs. it made for interesting and unique designs that have stood the test of time. The iconic BMW is still the E30. The iconic Ferrari is still the Testarossa. The Delorean, VW Rabbit, Jeep Cherokee… etc, all cars of the 80’s, with design language that car makers try to replicate to this day. What design cues of today’s cars will future car designer emulate? -- I would argue none.

      @@mikechan231 that is a valid point my friend. My wife and I were antiquing last weekend and found old automotive ads from the 50-60s. Now those cars had style, bold designs, amazing body lines. I love them.

      @Carsideration  Рік тому

      @@mikechan231 I still think there will be iconic designs that come out of the modern era but we won't realize they were iconic until years later.

      @@Carsideration 50s-60s was a great time for car design- all design really. It was supposed to be “the future -available today”. They tried to give you futuristic designs inspired by the atomic age, and that led to amazing departures from traditional designs - still amazing today. I think there are a handful of innovative designs today. Land Rover, Tesla, are on their own path. some of the electric Kias have broken loose from being carbon copies of their Japanese counterparts and are original designs. We’ll see. it’s hard to be original and unique when one chassis supports 6 different models!

    I own an automatic, after some testing I've found that you can make 0-60 in closer to 6.75 or 7 seconds which I thought was interesting. That's with some heavy spare parts in the back hatch and unoptimized weight reduction, although the missing fog lights and naturally stripped interior may have a part to play 😅
    No idea if totally stock or not, my mistake as a buyer, but personally I'm just glad she runs.

    great review, a local 944 S came up for sale.. what you think about the 944 S , thanks

    • @Carsideration
      @Carsideration  Рік тому

      944 S is a great car. The 944 S2 had a more profound body and rear diffuser and the rear wing of the 944 turbo. The S will be slightly down on power (190hp vs 211hp in the S2) the S2 performance level almost matched the 944 turbo so I would try to get a S2 for the extra money.

    • @byhsu6140
      @byhsu6140 11 місяців тому

      the 944S is a very nice car to get. I like NA cars and the 944S still has the bumpers like the regular 944, which sticks out, but it makes it look more classic than the smooth bumpers of the Turbo or the later S2. the 944S was a 1987 ~ 1988 model with 187hp and I believe 170 ft. lbs of torque. By the way it was a 16 valve 2.5 liter inline 4 engine in it.
