- From 5.30pm, Sat 5th Sep 1998, here's LWT's 30th anniversary ident, followed by the opening of Morecambe & Wise - Encore, a compilation of their Thames material. The first sketch in episode 1 is 'The Bell Ringer', from M&W's show of 12th Oct 1983 (Series 4, Episode 5).
This sketch was from episode 5 of the fourth and final series Eric and Ernie made for Thames Television in 1983. It actually topped 12.9 million viewers, a figure which BBC One or ITV would kill for in 2022.
I remember watching this at the time with my Dad, both of us with tears in our eyes. "Can I help?"
The woke wouldn’t like it !!! But me I LOVED IT
I love it too. Wokes get lost
eric died only 8 months after this, the sketch itself is OK, not quite BBC standard.
This is my all-time favourite opening sketch from Morecambe & Wise, originally broadcast for Thames TV in 1983 [when I was 16 at the time], and I do remember used to screen on Wednesday 12th October 1983 at 8:00 pm, and repeated once again for Thames TV on Wednesday 26th June 1985 at 8:30 pm and I still like it now.
That Top Bowler hat had me rolling in laughter. There is not a lot left to shake..............These guys were priceless.
Both Eric and Tommy Coopers quickfire humor was essentially the same...seldom seen but unique characters of yesteryear. Benny Hill was featured more often here.
Morecambe and Wise on LWT.
The irony of course is that Eric and Ernie made their shows for Thames Television, the arch rivals of LWT.
Exactly they were Thames @@johnking5174
What a great M&W animation! Enjoyed the sketch too 😉

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire trailer at the start, you actually have a small nugget of gold there. The background music is the show's original theme tune, written by Pete Waterman. It was titled Cloud 9, and intended to be released as a single a few weeks before the show hit the air as publicity. However, it was ditched only a couple of weeks prior to launch. There are currently only three commonly known clips in the wild, where small portions of the tune can be heard, this clip here is number four and contains some instrumental elements unique from the other clips. You should consider uploading that portion as a standalone video, I reckon it would interest a few people.
LEGENDS....WONDERFUL
The humour and banter doesn't seem as natural as they're earlier stuff.....this sounds way too scripted.
