I'm watching this in 2021, this clip is from 1974. It still shines and brings laughter. Sad to think they have gone, and those dear people I watched it with too. But it still brings joy.
Am I glad to be 56 and to have watched the best comedy back in the 60's and 70's, much of which is still better than today's. This is how it should be done. So lovely to see this again :)
Andre Previn was really unique for an American, as he understood British humour, he understood the comedy of Morecambe and Wise and played it just superb with them, including perfect timing of his lines. The best American guest they ever had on their shows. Eric really liked him.
What is really striking from this - and the Grieg sketch - is how a brilliant musician displays equally amazing comic timing and acting ability. No wonder he was invited back. His expressions and reactions to Eric and Ernie's repartee were worthy of an experienced light comedy actor or stand-up comedian. He could have had yet another very successful career on the stage.
Mr. Preview (uh Previn) could do it all! There will never again be another performer of that calibre. He was truly gifted. God must have loved him very much!!!
What a delight to see a man at the top of his profession so willing to laugh at himself. I hadn't seen this before, so thank you so much for uploading it. Funniest 18 mins I've had for a while.
When Andre Previn said in this sketch that the audience were giggling when he was conducting a performance of the Grieg Piano Concerto after his appearance on M&W he was telling the truth!
"I'll go and get my baton, it's in Chicago" - this was the line Andre Previn delivered in the 1971 Christmas Show of Morecambe and Wise which gave Eric Morecambe the knowledge that Andre not only knew his lines, but knew how to deliver them with great comic timing. Eddie Braben their writer said, after that line was delivered by Andre, Eric started to relax.
@@eega100 "im playing all the right notes.........but not necessarily in the right order" was THE line of that sketch but yes indeed Previns timing in the whole sketch was genius
I thought I'd seen everything by the boys but this is new to me. Wonderful as ever. Sadly none of the three of them still with us! Part of the joy of childhood espescially at Christmas. Simon Cowel et al could never compare!
Andre Previn complete class being able to literally make fun of himself in a profession that is deadly serious. Great skit by the boys, brilliant stuff.
4:15 - Perfect comic timing from Andre Previn here with the simple line "you would have been better off playing Luton" - so perfect was the timing, just listen to the thunderous reaction from the studio audience.
I have seen a different sketch with the 'Harpenden Hot Shots' which was Eric and Ernie and (proabably) Mrs Mills on piano and Mr Preview conducting. Unless I dreamed it, in which case I'm a bloody genius.
The great beauty of Morecambe & Wise was their running gags that went on for years. Mrs Mills and Arthur Tolcher, Mr Preview, Peter Cushing wanting to be paid, Elephant John and Des O'Conner of cause. But the best was - "Do want a cup of tea, Ern? Tea urn." Eric's delight at slipping that phrase into a show was obvious and never criticised, as we all loved it as well.
4:08 - Andre's delivery of this line to Eric just showed 1971 to 1974, he never lost his comic timing, and the studio audience knew it, just listen to the round of applause he got for it.
Great to see this - i wish there was more Morecambe and Wise on youtube. But… i think i can detect a subtle difference in this from the earlier shows: the direction, and framing of shots seems a bit different, the film quality/type seems to have changed, or possibly a slight change in the audio recording in the studio? It’s subtle enough to be noticeable and feel odd, but not enough to be glaring. Interesting…

What a great sport Andre was. One of my favourite Morecambe and Wise guests...and he did it twice! Unforgettable. A fine chap. Sorely missed.
Andre was not only a great conductor he also had perfect comedy timing.

A very different sketch to the 71 classic BUT still funny and was nice to see they didnt use the "preview" line here which was probably for the best
100% agree. Previn was a very talented man indeed.
Almost 50 years later and it still funnier than anything on tv since. Eric was a comic genius.
I thought I had seen every Morecambe and Wise, but dont remember that one. That was brilliant.
I never knew there was a sequel, to be fair Andre Previn has delivery better than many professional Comedians!
Not many celebs/stars get a second stint on Morecambe and Wise. A true mark of distinction. We'll miss you Andre Previn.
only 3 did
apparently he appeared again in a cameo with the line "look what happened to me after I worked with Morecambe and Wise" dressed as a bus conductor.
What a great sport was Andre Previn!
So good
What a great sport! He could have been a comedian himself! Brilliant timing! Miss him a lot. A true genius.
Mr. Preview (uh Previn) could do it all! There will never again be another performer of that calibre. He was truly gifted. God must have loved him very much!!!
He really entered in to the spirit of it brilliantly.

Just watched that sketch again, Eric does visibly relax after that line.
That is mentioned on just about every documentary on the history of M&W
Yes . What a great punchline . Delivered just as i was taking a sip of coffee . The telly got showered , and the carpet too . Hilarious !
Totally agree..best line in it
@@eega100 "im playing all the right notes.........but not necessarily in the right order" was THE line of that sketch but yes indeed Previns timing in the whole sketch was genius
Thank's for the memory of this wonderful double act.I never get tired of them?
three fabulous people we'll never ever see the like again
Never seen this before one, brilliant. Mr. Preview certainly had a sense of humour.
Andre gets top marks for being a good sport....great timing by everyone concerned....
I love watching Eric and Ernie especially at the end when they sing their little ditty...bring me sunshine...always cheers me up!
I thought I'd seen everything by the boys but this is new to me. Wonderful as ever. Sadly none of the three of them still with us! Part of the joy of childhood espescially at Christmas. Simon Cowel et al could never compare!

Don't remember this. Brill still laughing. Think Andre was one of the best ever guests on the show, a natural performer.
What a great sport Mr Previn was! Great comic timing too. He is greatly missed.
Never seen this this before and i am a Morecambe and Wise fanatic ! i have all their shows
Kings of comedy the timing of Eric makes every sketch magic.
Andre Previn was a good jazz pianist as well and enjoyed playing, he was good at everything he did and is missed.
Big Eric and Ernie fan,and I've never seen this before, thanks for posting, Mr preview was a brilliant foil to the boys
Incredible how Andre kept a straight face with these two top class wind up merchants! Sadly missed.
thanks for making this available-loved seeing it again.
That's really funny, I had no idea Mr Preview came back for a second time.
fantastic always makes me smile, brilliant just brilliant.
Andre Previn. Probably the best straight man M&W ever had!
Absolutely brilliant..How did Mr Previn..keep a straight face...now they are all gone..but what memories..
There's a fifty fifty chance she'll be bringing the sword with her, Mr. Andrew Preview's reaction is not just comedy gold, but comedy perfection...
And as it happens he was appointed a KBE in 1996, but he couldn’t be “Sir Andre” because he wasn’t a Commonwealth citizen.
Eric, Ernie and Mr. Preview all gone. RIP fellas.
Isn't it amazing how all guests are just so amazing on M&W? Obviously due to our duo but oh, so brilliantly funny
Fantastic
Only these two could do this
Never seen this before, thanks for posting 👏🏻
He was a classical musician which gave him the discipline but his jazz training allowed him to improvise
Eddie Braben was a comedy writing genius!
Great,great humour. Thank you!
ahh back in the day when the tv licence was value for money
This routine first aired on their first episode of Series 8 which was broadcast on Friday 27th September 1974 on BBC One.
I'd never seen this before, so thank you so much for posting it
Fantastic comedy! Pure class
Andre Previn, what a good sport !
A world-famous concert pianist playing an ocarina solo - it could happen only on Eric & Ernie's show!
4:15 - Perfect comic timing from Andre Previn here with the simple line "you would have been better off playing Luton" - so perfect was the timing, just listen to the thunderous reaction from the studio audience.
I remember both the first time around. Happy days.
Never realised he did a follow up. This is from September 1974.
No, me neither.
Again brilliant by the lads.
Wow why does nobody ever mention this follow up sketch
RIP Andre Previn 1929-2019
thanks for posting this. i didn't know it. wonderful sketch.
I have never seen this before, remarkable
Fantastic to watch - hadn't seen this sketch before. As always 'priceless'. Thanks for uploading.

Genius ,no one like this today ,mores the pity!
RIP mr preview you will be solely missed.
Looking forward to Christmas-day next week - 4 mates coming for Christmas-dinner and I'm putting Eric & Ernie on ALL day !
Brilliant.
I wondered where this got to , I can almost recite it by heart! not now Arthur!
Rest in Peace All 3 Of Them.
Sheer genius RIP good clean humour 🙏
They remembered his name that time 😂
RIP Mr Preview.
I remember this from the first time around-Andre Prevue nailed it! Sorry,,meant to say Andrew Previous
The guy was great, amazing haha.
This is so funny x
Great comedy duo! Sadly missed
Andre Preview was looking a lot like Laurence Olivier's Richard III
4:08 - Andre's delivery of this line to Eric just showed 1971 to 1974, he never lost his comic timing, and the studio audience knew it, just listen to the round of applause he got for it.
With That Line He Acknowledged Eric was A Luton Fan.

Privitt.
“Brilliant”
Wasn't there an extra one where he was a bus Conductor.
Top top comedy not like the pc crap nowdays .
Cant remember seeing this sketch, only remember the "playing the same notes, but not necessarily in the rite order" sketch.lol
It would've been really disappointing if you hadn't included 'preview' in the title - thanks
Wonderful! Watch the band trying not to laugh!
Like a salmon in shallow water......brilliant poor Andre
You would have been better off playing Luton !! Lol I had a good chuckle. Classic ! Top comediens.
“That’s Mrs Mills!”
“The Queen of the Ivories”
😂😂😂
12.52... a great example of the true, big band lilting sound so beloved of The Swing Age.....who was this band?
Sheer Class ! They have no equals.
The great Ronnie Verrell on drums!!
Seeing Mrs Mills shows just how accurate Ronnie Barker's sketch was.
Ernie wise was brilliant.
He fell for it again 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mr.Andrew Preview
Real entertainment.
Almost as good as the GREIG sketch.
13:33 classic !
Nothing remotely as entertaining on TV anymore.
