Stanley Boil & Brew French Press | Camp Coffee Maker Review

  • The Stanley boil and brew french press coffee maker is my new favorite way to make coffee while camping. For $25 you are getting a simple to use all in one french press coffee maker and boiling pot. It uses less fuel than a percolator which for me is a major upside as the butane cartridges can empty pretty quick if you are percolating coffee every morning as well as the normal camp cooking tasks.

      I just use the Stanley stainless cook pot from the 2-cup cook set and a cut down plunger out of a cheap Ikea French press.
      It works for a cup or so at a time.

    That happens because you press it with the lid on. There’s no where for the air to go to fast enough so it pushes the water out. Do the French press part without the lid on so the air can vent out fast enough. I never have that issue with out the lid on. Cheers.

    • @DonnieDispersed
      @DonnieDispersed  Рік тому

      That’s not the issue. I found leaving the silicone ring in the coffee for a minute let’s it swell up more and stop the coffee from seeping up the sides past the ring and spilling over.

    I have this! I bought it a couple of years ago as I prepared for my son and I to get to go camping this year. Sadly, he passed away suddenly at age 29 before we had the chance. I decided to bring this in from my car today and use it, but I had forgotten how it worked. Thank you for your clear demonstration. It really IS a cool gadget.

    I actually bought one of those for myself and my husband to use while Camping, RVing and Boating/fishing. I didn't have it long 😄 BECAUSE my USMC Son wanted it to take with him in the field when on deployments! HE LOVES IT !
    Well, I missed having it so I bought two more !! Yes 👍, 2 more. One for husband and me, and a spare one for my Marine Son should he lose his. He is a Recon Marine in a very small unit so having fresh coffee is pure luxury for them before or after executing on their missions. Thanks STANLEY 😊 !!
    PS Don't put the lid on while you are pressing the press down, then you can fill it to the max line and it won't spill over the top. It's the air pressure that causes it to do that when the lid is on 😉.

    FOR COFFEE LOVERS, the day doesn't just begin with a good, hot cup of coffee-it seems almost impossible without it. It's not only the dose of caffeine that does the trick, although that does help. It's also the ritual that surrounds it-the smell, the sound, even the wait are all a part of how coffee gets the day started right.

    get a coffee filter and wet it and then wrap it around the base of your press. It will also help filter the water and make a paper block in the water leak as you pour the coffee out.

    I considered getting one of these when first starting van adventures. I decided to use what I had. A thrift store TWA coffee pot from the former airline. Heavy aluminum base (rapid heat conductor) stainless pot using a Molita pour over into my RTIC cup. I boil a full pot of water putting the other half into a Stanley thermos. I have access to hot water for about 24 hours to use for tea, Ramen, hot chocolate or a sponge bath.

    So can you put the coffee grounds inside of the plastic filter, let it steep and then just pull the filter out along with the coffee grounds? That way, you can let extra coffee sit in the pot without it over-brewing. I call it the "French pull"

    • @3inrifle
      @3inrifle 2 роки тому +2

      Leave the filter in. It compresses the grounds into a cake at the bottom. No water circulates through the grounds so you don't over-brew. If you pull the filter out you end up mixing the grounds back into the coffee.

    • @carsonlane6704

      It would take a minute for the coffee to drip through
      because the coffee would be stuck in the filter. The filter is super fine ment for no passing grounds so it just wouldn't work out like you think.

    The Stanley adventure all in one coffee system is way better IMO. It's a cooking pot, water bottle, french press, 2 coffee cups or one insulated coffee cup, coffee storage container, and a thermos all in one. They're hard to find now, but I highly recommend it. It works great, and the thermos function works surprisingly well considering how it's designed. Also it's more towards 1 or 2 people. It's a bit more spendy, I think like 30 or 40 (I forgot.)

    That problem that you have with the coffee spilling out. Its because the lid. Press the coffee without the lid and it will not spill over. Also you want to be careful about leaving the pot on the heat with the filter in it. The plastic can olly take so much heat before it gives out, and starts bending out of shape.

    Get a grinder. Place just ground beans into clean stainless vessel with water. Place vessel over flame. When water boils and most of the grounds have sunk, pour into filter dripping directly into insulated stainless (no plastic liner) mug with lid.
    Get a cheaper to operate stove. I have a dual fuel MSR mostly for boiling. A Coleman propane for everything else. Advantages to having two stoves using two different fuels.
    I like your idea of a grill over the stove for pans that are too small for the stove's own grill.
    I'd drink pine needle tea before I'd drink instant. Though if you must, I find the freeze dried kind is best.

      @@DonnieDispersed I had a Coleman "suitcase" style dual fuel bought almost new at a garage sale for $40. Best stove if you have the room and don't ming pumping up the cylinder. My campsite near lake shasta was robbed when I drove into town one day. Lost everything but my old sleeping bag and tent. The stove went to an undeserving new owner. Not a good feeling knowing you just outfitted a criminal with a complete coming kit and put out to replace all that stuffe

    Try inserting in the press into the pot BEFORE pouring hot water in. Not exactly French Press but it is mess free. You have to boil the water in a separate pot but you don't have to worry about the water line.

      Defeats the purpose of bringing just one vessel. When camping you bring less, not more. Lol.

      You're right but it's the only way to get this Stanley maker to work 100% without spilling hot water everywhere. Chances are you have a pot somewhere to cook food. @@carmenmartinez2882

    I am pretty sure if you take the lid off while pressing it will not over flow.

    • @DonnieDispersed

      I had thought of that too, but it made no difference. There’s a large hole where the spout is so no extra pressure builds up with the lid on.

    "the seal creates the pressure" ???
    Do you need 'pressure' when you push down ?
    The 'seal' keeps the coffee grounds from 'escaping', and that's all !

    Are you sure there weren't any beavers upstream? According to the USFS, no water in North American streams is safe to drink. Treat it or boil the hell out of it or you'll get beaver fever. .

    If you pour faster, maybe you could get the top to come off and then you'd have something else to find fault with, you clod. Maybe try using the item the way it's intended. Then you wouldn't have issues. But then you wouldn't have your video.
