Excellent video. Just picked up one of these at a nearby sporting goods store while working away from home. Been staying in Air BnB’s that normally have a coffee maker that has been through a few misadventures from previous guests. They get nasty, and I’m not about to shuck out money to fix/clean someone else’s stuff. Besides, the coffee maker method is my least desirable. I prefer pour over filter holders, but couldn’t find any that were simple, and portable (what’s with all this glass and ceramic). This thing works perfectly, is inexpensive and I can travel with it. Great product.
Okay, you've sold me on this. I posted on my FB that we're going camping again for the first time in a long time and my old tiny electric perculator died and I hadn't been able to come up with a good substitute. Someone recommended this. I have a French press, but it's glass, and finicky and you have to get the pots out, and then you can't pack them because they're hot....thanks for showing the coarseness of the coffee. That's not what I would have thought it meant. Those look quite fine to me, so that was very helpful! I also really like the sprayer you have. I feel like I'm so out of touch with camping tech!
Yours is the first video I've seen where a review included cleaning it out! Thank you. Every other "review" waxes poetic about how great a cup of coffee it makes, then begs for a like and subscribe while never showing how to clean it!
One of the best filmed and detailed reviews of a product I've seen. Great video and to the point. Thank you! Just ordered one. I need a separate video on just your camp sprayer though!
@6:14 it says in the manual you can boil with the lid on! As long as it's on a stove and not just like on a campfire etc. They say "ok on a stove" to leave lid on for thermal efficiency. But I know some people will set this on a campfire log and balance it.... in that kind of case you don't want to boil with the lid
Bought one of these because of this video. Yes, it really is a great product. The handles cool down very quickly because of their small mass. Definitely can pick up in under half a minute, sooner if you blow on them.
You and I have the exact same taste in coffee…….anything that’s in my mug 😀 Great video. Now that I got my Modek Y I want to start camping in it. Thanks for the useful info Cameron.
I use this in the kitchen quite a bit, need to get it out camping. I've been brewing Sam's 105 Main brand in it, tastes great when brewed cowboy style. Get the water hot, throw in 3 or 4 scoops, then bring it to a rolling boil for 4 minutes. Let it set a bit, add a little cool water, then press. Smoothest coffee with no acidic aftertaste, no indigestion.
Found a 10oz thermos that fit inside perfectly. Holds 32 heaping tspoons. I use 8 scoops on 32oz. Gets me threw the weekend solo . Want to see if i can fit a collapsible mug under press?
You can certainly do that, but you’d have to build a fire and deal with all of the flames while not burning yourself. Camp stoves like the one I use are so much more convenient.
I, too, love that great piece of kit. I bought one years ago when they first came out (called the Boil-N-Brew). My USMC RECON Son took it for his many deployments in the field. He calls it his LUXURY ITEM. Bought a replacement one for me. Yep, sure enough it was one of the first items put into my Go-Bag when Evacuating from Hurricane Ian. STANLEY simply does it right ✅ 👏.
WHY THE FUCK DO YOU MENTION YOUR SON ON THIS video? And then you mention your son in another video? Nobody gives a fuck. I spent 16 years in the marine corps, nobody cares!!
Nice video ….But have you tried the Stanley double walled travel French press . It keeps it hotter for longer …..high temp stability especially while brewing light roasts is important.
@@TheTechofTech you loose a lot of temperature when brewing for 6-7 minutes in a uninsulated space……it’s a not a big deal for dark roasts …but for light roast coffee temperature is vital . To be fair, you shouldn’t start with boiling water in the first place, but I do. The coffee I brew the caveman way is plenty good enough for me, for sure.
@@TheTechofTech you need to start with Boiling water and it’s the correct method . Is it an issue as you never know what leaks when plastic insert gets hot ….
Why are you using a different lid ? Doesn’t it come with a fire proof lid ? Why is it tapered at the bottom ? It only makes it harder to fit on stands that might be slightly bigger . Even on your burner it looks like it’s at the very tip of the metal and looks like it’s ready to slip off . Why not just make it straight down for a bigger base ?
This French press is not intended to be the vessel for heating the water. I boil my water in a separate Stanley Adventure Camp Two Cup Cook Set “pot”, which holds 24oz of water, and has its own steel lid. I then fill my French press with my coffee, and pour the heated water up to the fill line of my French press, stir, then let brew for 6 minutes, before pressing the coffee. I use eight tablespoons of ground coffee per pot.
Family stuff means I can't get to the range enough to keep up. This channel lets me make videos I can make at home or when I get the rare chance to myself.
Nah. You’d never tell the difference in a blind taste test. There is so much snobbery in the French press world when it’s still just putting water and grounds together, then filtering off the grounds.
@@2lips544 I think it’s supposed to aerate the grounds more and also gives the remaining water a chance to cool down to the preferred 180degree temperature?
We are an odd species. We are dealing with a completely subjective drinking experience, yet we insist on telling people the right way to brew our coffee.
Too many parts, not enough capacity, and you have to keep buying filters. This is huge and only three parts including the gasket. I’m sure the AeroPress makes great coffee, too, but I prefer the simplicity of this press.

Your right. It’s a fantastic press. And you can’t beat the price or dependability.
Thank you so much for the great review.
Glad it was helpful!
Cool
I'm cheap on most stuff but not coffee. Yea call me a coffee snob. I own up to it. 🤣 Gonna have to give this a try.

How much coffee do you put in?
Have you tried adding the coffee while it's over the heat?

The full press goes into my 30oz insulated tumbler all at once, so the press itself being insulated isn’t that important to me.

How long are you supposed to wait after you stir the coffee, before you press it?
