The canards (which function as all-moving elevators) are moving the wrong way. As part of a tailplane, the elevators need to create downwards lift (leading edge rotates down) at the back of the aircraft, in order to rotate the aircraft, nose up. When canards instead are used, to rotate the front of the aircraft up, the canards must instead create positive lift, so the leading edge rotates up. I'm assuming they just used the same code as controls the model of a regular tailplane, only moved the position... What they seem to forgotten to do is 'angle * (-1)' to the elevator position (when it is forwards of the centre of lift).

I'm also not sure if we've committed to implementing Airbus' aerodynamic refinements including LERX, though those may be standard for all models of the next planned tranche, I'm not sure. And despite it being announced 10+ years ago that there was 10-20% room for thrust growth with further development of the EJ200 engines, and work being carried out on thrust-vectoring nozzles, as far as has been publicly released, there has been no further development of the EJ200 for production aircraft.

So the French dropped out, over the rest of the nations not wanting a naval ver? Could they have not just made the landing gear and tail hook and assembled it on their own soil? It already has the thrust and canards to help with carrier takeoff/land.
The typhoon still feels like an unfinished aircraft. By the time war thunder fixes these shortcomings I’m sure other nations such as the USA will have their own top tier jet such as the f18. I don t know if that’s necessary a bad thing however.
A bit bummed that the Rafale seems to be relegated to being just ok, but I’m Not sure how close they are in real life or if gaijin did the typical nerf France
this isn't real life... using the video for this example, Eurofighters don't fight other Eurofighters in a 32 aircraft furball in real life, and angle of a radar is where you draw a line? wise up wee man.
There is also some confusion about if the AIM-9L/I-1 is intentional (vs the AIM-9L/I) and the specs its supposed to have. I expect them to patch the German one fairly soon.
Frankly the things that piss me off the most is that in war thunder, the HMD simply doesnt work. Sometimes it tracks head on targets at 15km, and sometimes it fails to acquire the target you want to lock, even if they show you their back or belly at ranges of under 10km, making it basically useless, meaning you cant really fire aim120 with anything other than tws or rws, and for both, the mig-29 radar does its job more reliable in war thunder. Datalink doesnt work, so you need to detect targets yourself, and worst of all, the flight model is completely busted, which becomes noticable in sim. IRL this plane cannot be stalled by extreme stick inputs, the flight computer simply doesnt allow those inputs to be processed. The plane itself will not allow you to stall your aircraft. Yet in WT it easily stalls out. The HMS does not work properly, as you need to switch to HMS mode, sacrificing TWS and RWS when using it, but it also means, that if you lock a zarget in tws or rws, and its outside of your HUD, you have no way whatsoever to know its position, wince the HMD doesnt turn on when looking away from the HUD (it worked on the dev server, so no idea how they managed to screw it up for live server). Not that it matters since in sim theres abaolutely no target icons in the HUD so the only way to positively identify enemy location on the Y axis is to spot them using the Mk1 eyeball. So what do we have here? A plane with a radar that in its current state is surpassed drastically by the Mig-29 and some F4 variants, missiles that track less riliably than the Aim-120A, IR missiles that dont lock properly in head-on attacks unless below 4km, while the R-73 can lock reliqbly at 7km and less, an HMD that doesnt work, a HUD that cant be used in Sim, and a Sim flight model that makes it nearly unusable. Gaijin really messed up the implementation of this plane.

except neither one of those can compete with the Eurofighter irl anyway. Eurofighter has clapped the F-22 at Red Flags. America just overhypes that plane.... Eurofighter has better acceleration, better TWR, faster climb rate, faster turn rate.... it literally outclasses the F-22 in every single way except one.... stealth.
Yeah the F-22 will just dominate, It will eat Rafales, Typhoons, Su-35s for lunch on a daily basis, whether in BVR or Close in dogfights, it's gonna either be the absolute undisputed king, or nerfed into oblivion. Either way it will be death to any nation that isn't on the US's side lol

France GTFOd out of the original project, which eventually culminated in the Rafale (and just to give the middle finger, the prototype flew first in 1986 lmaooo)

One of the "visual oddities" I alluded to :-( It isn't the first time they've done this either.

Great video, as always!
The Brits kept this programme alive. We are so lucky that we did, and the progress on the plane has taken it to be a pinnacle multi-role fighter. It would be a mistake to allow the production line to go cold and spend on developing new platforms. Late era Typhoons will be a top tier jet until they retire.
Absolutely menace to think about the later modernised Typhoon, they armed with aim-132 ASRAAM, meteor and storm shadown. I can feel how scary that thing is even though it might came out around late 2025.
Saying that we are dragging our feet extremely hard on Captor-E Mk.2, meaning we are still stuck with a mechanically steered Captor-M array while other nations are fitting out with the AESA Captor-E Mk.0 and Mk.1
We have, last I checked, refused to fund Meteor Mk.2 development.
@@high-velocitymammal5030 The lack of funding, planes, and more sits at joke status. But consider the RAF basically has a broken training path - if you had more planes, unless you fix the training path - anyway. Yes, all your points are valid. As is that the current core 40 plane fleet of the RAF is doing almost all the actual real world work. And on development, again all points correct - and yet stating that - also shows development on platform could be done. Don't have to go to a new plane to do that..

Yes, the Rafale is next.
What a dual you had there!
The Eurofighter is expected to be overpowered if modeled realistically. The only reason it isn’t considered a generational leap is the F-22, although the difference in actual combat performance between these two might be quite marginal.
They are in fact sometimes considered "Generation 4.5"
Hey, tim a bit of a correction the german EF2000 uses the aim9L/I-1 which has a smokeless motor (gaijin forgot to rename the stock aim9l/i to its -1)
I knew about this, but didn't want to go on a long tangent - there is some debate if this is intentional (the LI-1 vs LI) and/or the specific model it gets will be patched. It wasn't worth delaying the review over, since they change shit so damned often anyway. :-\
@TimsVariety completely valid, honestly I'd rather the Ef2k get the base L/I cause it's funny making people think its a 120 and eat a aim9
I don't know why, but this video got me pumped for the Typhoon in DCS and not War Thunder. Oh well.
My channel has a fair amount of viewers who don't even play the game :-)
@TimsVariety oh I do have War Thunder, been playing since the highest jets were the Sabre and the Mig-15. But when the Hungarian tree was added it locked the last rank, and I just gave up. I don't have the time and the money to get the Italian Typhoon...
Small detail: Spain never left the eurofighter program after joining it, and it is currently one of the countries with a larger number of them.
I was just thinking about coming back to my British jets and this video comes through..
i am grinding the uk tech tree this week from zero to hero
Since Su-30SM was leaked by Olivia recently. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw it next update with the F-2 and F/A-18C
have you considered making full history videos on the vehicles that you cover?
You forgot to mention the 27mm cannon the Mauser BK-27 at 3:44 ,Tim .😊
The game incorrectly refers to the IR missile on the German Eurofighter as fhe AIM-9L/I. It is actually an AIM-9L/I-1, which is smokeless
There is a fair amount of discussion about that point, and I'm not confident which specific version of the 9L they *intend* for the German one to have. We may see a patch in the very near future.
@@TimsVariety Digging through the files because this confused me as well, despite both missile modifications for the F-4F ICE and Typhoon being called AIM-9L/I-1 in the mod menu, and both being referred to as AIM-9L/I in their respective HUDs, the game has given the Phantom the 9L/I, while the Typhoon gets the 9L/I-1.
Why Gaijin doesn't reflect this in the game UI is beyond me, but they definitely are considered to be two separate missiles by the game.
@TimsVariety In the language files, it's referred to as "us/weapons_aim9l_i_1_sidewinder" so I'm pretty confident that it's intended as an AIM-9L/I-1

So what are the differences between the three?

Do you do these videos on Linux (since you mentioned you use Gentoo), or do you use it for work or something?
I don't do a lot of gaming on Gentoo any more, but I use it for my secondary desktop and home server. I've been running Gentoo since the early 2000s, and actually made some contributions to the SPARC64 port since I had access to Sun SPARC hardware to test it on (I'm one of the 0.0000000001% who actually ran Sun Solaris on SPARC as my daily-driver desktop at home for a while). I also run Gentoo on my workstation at the office.
can british eurofighters laser warning reciever detect irst?
Nothing detects IRST
IRST detects heat signatures so it is not detectible by MAW or any LWR
@@casualspawnpeeking3680 but most of them use a laser rangefinder to detect range, i thought that's why they spent so much on making the PIRATE irst have laserless rangefinding using kinematics?
It wouldn't be the LWR; it would be some of the UV sensors on the MAWS detecting rocket motor burn.

Hey Tim sorry to say but you got the IR missile for the German Eurofighter wrong, it has the "AIM-9L/I-1" now which just makes it smokeless compared to the AIM-9L/I. not a big deal but just wanted to let you know, I don't remember when they made the switch but I was grinding for it last night and saw the difference. IRST also isn't coming, that will be likely maybe when the AIM-9X block 2 comes, not with the normal AIM-9X. So no, you aren't getting either this summer.
FYI Meteors won't be coming until like the AIM-260 and some Russian equivalent exists, so yea no. The next missiles we will be getting are further improvements of the AIM-120.

If you've got it narrowed down to 2 or 3 potential grinders, fly 10 missions with each and keep notes to see which one gives you more total RP after 10 matches.
Use that one. Everyone's playstyle is a little different, so what plane works better for person A might not be best for person B.
shouldnt it get 10 missiles? it literally says that on the steam page.
I don t know if that’s necessary a bad thing however.
f18 doesn't bring anything new to US
A bit bummed that the Rafale seems to be relegated to being just ok, but I’m
Not sure how close they are in real life or if gaijin did the typical nerf France
Im having a great time with the Rafale so far, my review will be fairly positive.
@ awesome to hear! Haven’t gotten their yet but I love the French fighters, I was only going based on what people were saying
The rafale feels very nice you can easily dogfight everything except for the euro fighter
In reallife the radar has 110° view angle. so why not ingame?
this isn't real life... using the video for this example, Eurofighters don't fight other Eurofighters in a 32 aircraft furball in real life, and angle of a radar is where you draw a line? wise up wee man.
why would france of all things insist on having aircraft carrier capability?
For their aircraft carrier.
I'm purely annoyed cause the Germany ef has a place holder radar still..
Yep… I guess I should continue my british air tech tree. Currently on the meteors 😢.
The good news is, if you're getting to the meteors, you've got some great and fun aircraft ahead :-)
so how do i use aim 120s on the f4f ice to even grind this plane

If the Eurofighter is like this...i can only imagine when the likes of Su-35(or even F-22) come in..
High tier air RB will turn into nightmare fuel...
except neither one of those can compete with the Eurofighter irl anyway.

Great review, but i do have a question about the 9L/I. Ive been hearing that it does not have IRCCM. Do they actually have it in game? I trust your information more than the other places ive heard the opposite from.
I believe its supposed to, but there is also some confusion about what the exact model of the 9L/I on the German EF is supposed to be. I'm expecting a patch at some point in the near future, so I didn't spend a lot of time on it.
@TimsVariety thank you.
France GTFOd out of the original project, which eventually culminated in the Rafale (and just to give the middle finger, the prototype flew first in 1986 lmaooo)

I found out earlier this year before I quit playing, like I said there's an event coming up soon so I just wanted to let people know, I'd you say anything about PVE in game chat it means a 30 day ban If anyone reports anyone or you, since their chat report scans game chat(I found this out the hard way, as someone in a lobby had been cursing and got reported, I had only mentioned PvE and got banned as well, for no less than 30 days)
Also anything that could be considered telling people to not spend money or to only play if you're having fun can get you comm banned on steam and in-game, both have happened to me and the moderators i talked to didn't do anything, basically acted like bots with no souls citing TOS/chat rules that they essentially just bend when they want to.
