I was gonna say I was surprised he never once used Zess T’s cooking mechanic for stronger attack items. When every point of damage counts in a Paper Mario game, having all Zess Dynamites instead of just Shooting Stars could hit some breakpoints earlier, even if the setup is a bit tedious.

Huge respect on re-doing the entire pit after that absolutely tragic mistake. Thats a scenario where I definitely would've made a save-state on floor 99 because I do not have the patience required to do that sort of thing twice.
I fear the day where Bringles realizes "Badge Power" isn't actually a thing and it's just called "Badge Points". I feel like this is a thing he held onto since childhood, much like his idea of Bingos being totally random
The great irony of this is that this is *the one challenge* where Return Postage would have actually been useful, but you still do the pit last anyway. Also, I will always give a like to any content that features Quick Change. Best badge is best.
Hey man, if I makes you feel better, I did an early pit run and had a 90 something encounter with two Bob-ulks and an Amaze Dayzee. I focused my attacks on the Dayzee for the star points, and in turn, let the Bob-ulks charge up completely and I choked. My last attack got them both down to 1hp each, so they both hit me for 16 and I lost that run.
So sorry that you died while extremely close to winning!! I have a challenge suggestion but idk if it's possible. Beat the game without any damage dealing moves allowed. But instead of banning menu categories, ban all individual moves that deal damage. This means you can't use most Specials like Art Attack or Earth Tremor. Though you CAN use all moves that don't deal damage (e.g. Shell Shield), you can use any badges you want, you can go get the Strange Sack, and you can still use items to attack of course. And preferably, no super guarding.

I watched every TTYD and Super Mario Wonder challenge video in the backlog over the past couple weeks, and I quickly began to anticipate the next video, so it made sense to support with a membership since I’m able to. I wasn’t sure if I was going to made the end card for this one since I joined so close to the video coming out, but it’s awesome seeing my name up there at the end! Also, my favorite parts in the video were when you pulled up the stats of the enemies per set of floors, and the drop chances of the Defend Plus. It gives a cool peak behind the curtains of the game, and I feel like when used right they can add to the enjoyment of challenge runs, even more so when they’re used to plot out a crazy strategy.
So because of how useless Return Postage is: a run where all you're allowed to do is heal and do damage with things like Zap Tap and Return Postage. Obviously, they'd have to be hacked into the inventory, but it'd be interesting to see if it's doable, as tedious as it would be.
Whenever I play through The Thousand-Year Door, I usually just go with certain attack and defense buffing badges, as well as the Peek-a-Boo badge. I've never learned to super-guard--mainly because I never even knew it was a thing until I started watching UA-cam videos like this (I got my main training on these games from the first Paper Mario game, which I also normally play the same way). So, yeah, I can say that, after watching gamers like you play this game and realizing what I missed out on with super-guards and now seeing you play this challenge run without them, I actually feel a lot better about myself. Regular defense is still really useful--especially with a good badge loadout! Someday (maybe when the remake comes out) I'll try out those super-guards and see how well they do with me. But there's definitely nothing wrong with using regular defense action commands, considering they do still work pretty well. As useful as super-guards are, especially on the right challenge runs, and how much I've enjoyed seeing you implement them, I'm looking forward to seeing what else you do with regular defense, if you're allowed/supposed to use that. Always awesome seeing how you see challenging ways to play this game! As they say, this is a game that you can play any way you want. If you like, maybe one suggestion would be to try some badge loadout sometime with some of the under-utilized ones and see how that plays out. Could be interesting.
Thanks to inspiration from your videos I _finally_ beat the game for the first time this past weekend, 13 years after I started* the game. Fun fact, Earth Tremor is nearly impossible for me on a B&W TV because the red and blue are nearly identical shades of gray. *13 years since I started this save in 2011. IIRC my original original save from when we first got the game (maybe 2005?) got corrupted.
22:05 So I remember looking up how PM:TTYD calculates damage and basically from what I could find it's to do with order of operations. Essentially defense pierce is a modifier applied when the game does the simple attack-defense step of the damage formula , however stuff like the damage reduction from P-down D-up, the damage increase from P-up D-down, Ice power's defense against fire, last stand's damage division, and double or nothing's damage multiplication are applied after the game does the ATK-DEF step, so they completely ignore defense pierce. This is also why a character with 0 defense equipped with a P-up D-down will take 1 extra damage despite the fact that the game usually responds to being given a negative value for a character's defense by setting the value to 0.
you should put "no superguards" in the title tbh, I saw this on my feed a few days ago and was like "yeah just superguard everything to death thats boring" and only checked it out now
"art attack" has the word Attack in it so I'd say it shouldn't allowed for a No Attack challenge, but i think what you are doing with the ART part of it makes up for that~

Im very surpised you didnt do Goombella’s Tattle/Rally Wink, Koop’s Shell Shield, Flurrie’s Gale Force/Dodgy Fog, Vivian’s Veil/Infatuate, Ms. Mowz’ Kiss Thief, Tease, or Smooch. These all do no damage (correct me if I’m wrong) and therefore wouldnt be defined as an attack. Otherwise FP is useless in the run

Not gonna lie, this challenge for the Pit sounds like a huge slog; props for grinding it out! Just a quick FYI: Feeling Fine (P) doesn't prevent Freeze. It does prevent everything else an enemy can inflict on you status-wise, though LOL

Paper Mario TTYD Trashlocke? i.e. "Can you Beat Paper Mario using only badges and items considered D tier or lower" (may dip into C tier depending on what's available.. also no shine sprites except maybe on Goombella and Koops, and probably no star powers?). I know you ranked things like Sleep Stomp pretty low, but I'd be interested to see how it fares if everything else available is pretty bad, lol
This is funny because it is suspiciously similar to how i played the game as a kid. I could never do superguards as a kid so i had damage dodge and regular guarded all the time, and yes youre right, its a pretty legit way to play the game

Is it possible to beat the game with ONLY superguard damage? I can't recall if there are bosses that completely avoid making contact with all of their attacks.
A lot of superguardable attacks do not deal damage back to the attacking enemy when superguarded. Good examples included all of the Dragon bosses, Shadow Queen, Magnus Von Grapple (both versions.)

He tried against Gloomtail in the previous video and either wasn't able to figure out the specific hitbox, or the hitbox was too big to do it.
