A few months back, when my father was first admitted to the hospital, I would send him your videos. He loved watching. After his eyesight failed, I would tell him about what you were doing. Even when he couldn't get the words out anymore, I'd tell him what happened. The man that taught me how to be self-reliant, a volunteer firefighter for over 45 years, the man that taught me to drive manual on a 1969 Camaro Z/28, passed away last week. The turnout for the wake was incredible. The teary eyed firefighters when the bapipes played amazing graze at the funeral was a tremendously emotional scene. Now I instill those values and ethics into my son. We'll never forget Robert Moore 9/7/56 - 3/11/23
Condolences to you and your family. My dad died 20 years ago today. No bagpipes but my eulogy kinda rocked the house and I know he would have approved.
My condolences my friend. Lost my father in 2017 who was a phenomenal mechanic and taught me so much, sold his first pride and joy 1968 c10 step side which he gave me as my first truck, but when he was sick I sold it to help pay bills. I kick myself everyday. That is the short story. Here's to our dad's that are here, who have passed and loved continuously everyday for what they taught and gave us. Cheers my fellow VGG Family. May we continue to pass on our knowledge love support and passion to our kids and or loved ones for the love of hot rodding as a family.
This feller is an animal. He takes less days off than any full time employee. Still manages to chill with the family n help his little humans he's responsible for. I think Tennessee was a great move. Year round content n not trying to kill a guy in the snow. Thanks you to the VGG crew.
Keep it all old school. No Ls swapping or EFI. Big cube, carb, cam, heads, 4 wheel disk. You know the deal. This is without a doubt my favourite car in the VGG stable and I am excited to see what you have in store for Liberty.
I agree up to being my favorite. Lol. To each their own, but I'm quite partial to his buicks. The grand national is my 2nd favorite. But I have a huge heart for all his projects. Also partial to the ford A's. Those are a totally old school hot rot material, there again it's just my opinion.
There's nothing wrong with an LS or E.F.I.... Old school small blocks AND big blocks have been done to death compared to ANY amount of LS or E.F.I. cars out there today. As long as it's quick, it makes NO difference if a guy has a LT5 or and old ass 396 under the hood. People telling other people what they "should" or "shouldn't do" with their own cars is really getting old. Buy your own ride, and do what you want with it. People told me I'd NEVER end up with a quick or reliable car using an N/A Oldsmobile big block, and I was just throwing money down the toilet, but guess what? It runs single digit quarter mile E.T.s all day long, and survives just fine. 🤷🏻
@@davelowets '68 GTX Hemi 4 speed that is a 4 on the Haggerty, so got my own thanks. Pretty sure he asked us to bleep bloop it down below what we think he should do with her, like he always does. Never said there was anything wrong with an Ls or EFI my guy.
These videos really help a guy keep on trucking during the darkest times. Thank god for you, your family, and the incredible work you do to educate and entertain us. Thank you very much.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! Lil late on the comment section. Just wanted to say a guy had virtually the same car in high school. Blue 70 Malibu, 383 Stroker, 4:11 posi, line lock, ratchet shifter, Vic jr manifold etc. Watching this has inspired me to find another Blue 70 Chevelle. This is almost identical to my old car. Mine also ran in the high 12’s.
Derek, as a native Tennessean I want to let you know I speak for every single one of us. I am thrilled to have you here. You're a national treasure brother. Content is great as always. Keep up the great work.
Absolutely gorgeous Chevelle! My first car was a '70 Chevelle. I bought in the summer of 1987 and I still have it. For now, I'd leave the 406 in it, but when you do decide to build it, I'd stay old school and go big block and front disc brakes. Leave those wheels on it, they look incredible on that car! PERFECT sibling for Independence! Keep doing what you're doing Derek, this is the best automotive show in existence!
My favorite thing about your channel is that you include your family. Your wife is a real trooper and your boys are products of great parenting. I love listening to an engine with a cam just sit there and idle. Sounds like music. Thanks for the great videos.
Man watching that old Chevelle making passes sure brought back memories. In my late teens/ early twenties, I used to run 1/8th mile on Friday nights. There was an old boy (he was mid to late 40s) there had one. We developed a fierce but friendly rivalry. Even after they closed that track, we remained friends for 25 years, and he's the godfather to my kids. His grandson now has that car, and it's still throwing down high 12s twice a year in his memory. RIP Frank Olson 1951-2019
I don't usually comment on anything, but after your gratitude on this video I wanted to thank you for making such fun and entertaining content. I think I'm a little older than you, and grew up in a small farming community and just feel at home watching your videos. As long as you keep it going, I'll keep supporting.
Thank you, Derek. For the fun and informative videos. We can tell you're a genuine guy, from the way that you are. I would go with the big block, if I had the youth, time, and resources. Maybe a Power Glide. 4.88's sounds like a good choice, and a blast from the past too. Just my thoughts, but it would be a shame to have a turbo punched through that beautiful hood. No matter what, in the end it's still your car, and your build. Thanks again for your channel, and all the best to you and your family.
Derek. I very happy to hear that we’ll be seeing a lot more of this car. Of course I loved Independence but this is now my favorite car in your stable! It was great to hear the back story. Best channel on UA-cam!
Derek I'm not a "Car Guy" just a old farmer. That said I appreciate your style of troubleshooting, fabricating, and maintaining your stable of vintage classics. The Chevelle is truly a beautiful machine. You did well for your family and the show with this acquisition.
@@randypeacock8062 It's hard to beat a good ole stroked 351w!! I run a stock headed 351w in my 80 Fox Body with 4.10's and a 5 speed. Talk about fun, hot damn!!
That paint is really a beautiful color and those rims set it off just right! She's a really nice ride. You know you see thousands of them over the years, I have since the 70's, so you know, but once in awhile certain ones just stand out, and she does. Nice score!👍 Don't forget, JB weld is your friend 😅
Yeah, that combo with the ramp truck and Liberty makes for a heck of a stance! 😎 Also, she (Liberty) did pretty well. We've seen what happens when a engine just sits around for a long period of time.. sometimes it's not great. We the viewers, Thank you Derek and Family! All the content you have provided plus just being YOU! It really makes the video that much better. So, again, Thank you!
Absolutely thrilled you chose to name it Liberty! Loved learning it's history, and the love and care given to it all those years. It couldn't be in better hands! Thanks Ed! Heck of a job sir!
And you’re welcome brother! I started watching during the Harley fixings… been here ever since. Family man that loves to turn a wrench and go fast. Just wish I could be in the lane beside you in something! Anything! Even a golf cart! 😂
Leaves faster than a step dad 😂😂😂😂 The car is a gem. The only thing I would do if I had it would be to rebuild or replace that shifter and maybe put the original gauge cluster back in it.
As a scenic and architectural photographer for going on 36 years it warmed the old heart seeing you collecting vintage cameras. I was given the privilege of photographing the oldest AMC Dealership in the good ole US of A a couple years back. Talk about cars back all along the tree rows, that was the place. Any Who, thanks for another great video Derek from a guy who graduated back in 1970 🧙♂. May you and your family continue to be abundantly blessed!! John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Hi Derek I just wanted to thank you for all the videos you post over the last tree years first my wife Lorna passed away and I am finding it very hard to cope with. Then my son got knocked down and had a catastrophic brain injury thank God he came through that after being in a coma for 3months Benjamin has been home for a year he is walking speaking I am just So blessed to have him i retired to care for him, when I see your videos and you with your son’s and wife it just fills my heart ❤️ with love for you all, I’m sure I don’t have to say but love and cherish them all as it con change in a heart beat sending Love from Scotland God bless you all. Regards Bill and Benjamin
Hi Bill. I also have had a few losses that took me a while to get over. First my Dad died of cancer in 2000 which hit me REAL hard. He was the greatest guy I've know. When he worked he WORKED. He held every production record at the factory he worked at called Precoat Metals in St. Louis so they let him set his own hours which he immediately started working on Saturdays and Sundays for time and a half and double time on Sunday. He worked 20 hrs each day, came home and slept 4 hrs and went right back in on Sunday and did the same thing. That's in the 60's & 70's when men were MEN. He & my uncle went fishing during the week. lol He was the funniest guy. He was always joking around and giving people a hard time. I've seen him call a very homely woman (that was married to my cousin) ugly and made her laugh about it. By the way, she was NOT a nice person but as usual took an instant liking to Dad. As did just about everyone did. I lost my Mom 2 years ago and it was very hard. We lived together because I was disabled in my back and neck and she also had troubles living on her fixed income so we went together and lived a little better. She was an AMAZING woman, wife and mom. She was a very hard worker. I could write a book about what she's done for us to just survive. Anyway, I feel for you and I'll be praying for you and your family and really hope you are doing good. Now I live with my son and his aunt. I've been really struggling here but I'm starting to feel better everyday. I'm very sorry for your loss and will definately will be praying for your son. Much respect for retiring so you can care for him.
I honestly don’t know how you manage to get so much done in a week that you do. Husband, father, garage designer, a master mechanic, in my mind. Because you talk about what you do in a way that no matter if you’re a mechanic or a gal (I’m 75) knows nothing or a gal/guy that has a whisper of car info. I thank you for being you. There are a lot of “influencers “ who can barely talk, then those whose ides, skills, language skills, know how’s just blows my mind.
YUP! Best thing yews did by moving to Tennessee and being with your family instead of having the garage in Wisconsin and yews in the State where nothing is aloud! Ever listen to Garage Logic?
I could really see a couple of different ways to go with this. I think I would for sure keep it old school, either the 400, or a big block. First, put a shifter in it that you're comfortable with. It would be the perfect home for the big block from Independence, which is what I think most would want to see. It would be great to take the 400 to the next level though, with aluminum heads, roller cam, higher compression, etc etc. 4 wheel disk conversion for sure!
My first car was a 70 Chevelle with the 307. My brother took a week off from work and rebuilt that engine. Put a set of old 80s IROC rims on out with some Mickey Thompson Street slicks. She ran pretty good. Still wish I had her
Love the look of those wheels and tires. Waaaay better than the others in my opinion. Thank you Derek Jessica and boys for continuing the great content. A guy is running out of things to say after seeing every episode half a bagillion times 😂 cheers VGG Nation.
Keep it old school! I just want to thank you and your family for all the videos. You do projects that the average Joe can afford. Definitely make it entertaining!
Should have seen some of his first videos. Self made. He always says how greatful he is for his fans my favorite video of his is him road tripping the old model A 700 miles .
I feel like your channel was made specifically for me. I agree with so many of the things about how you live your life. Your gratitude to your viewers and how you all blend as a vibrant family is just the best. In addition, you bring your ideas to the common person like me. Since I don't have the time or place to do what you do, I get so much out of this. I've grown up around cars and mechanics all my life. Our family owned a Chrysler/Pontiac dealership from before I was born until the mid eighties. In addition, I owned 'walkers" for most of my cars. Up until recently, I did most all repairs myself. A guy starts to value time enough to pay to have some things done. Your shop is just the best. Your level of professionalism is awesome. Btw, this Chevelle is one of the nicest I've ever seen. And "Zip Ties and Woodchips"! Hahahaha. I'm also a musician.
Man oh man! Derek you have turned into a Monster mechanic! The know-how, tips, advice etc. When you open your first Derek's automotive training program, I will be your first student!!!!❤
71's my favorite year for muscle cars. It was no rocket, but a 1971 LeMans was my first car, and I've noticed since then that 71 was a great year for American cars, and your Chevelle just proves the point. Love this channel, keep at it!
I LIKE IT!, being a OLD chevelle man in my youth, i going along for the ride, glad to see that it hasnt lost its spirit setting idle in a shed somewhere. Damn good looking MACHINE.
I would love to see another engine build series like the first Independence engine build you did in the old milking barn shop in Minnesnowta. That was one of my more favorite series of episodes of VGG. Build a mean small block that can still be run in drag and drive events. Learn us some stuff Derek! Beautiful car, great history. Time to continue its history.
❤I LOVE THIS SHOW for countless reasons!! Thank Goodness the orig owner took care of the ‘71 Chevelle for you to tinker and breathe it’s Old life back into her!!!💙💙💙💙💙 I want one!!!!!! I learn so much and I’m a girl w no Wrench experience!!! Enjoy!!!
That was one of your very best videos 👍 I'm also bigtime into history of antique vehicles and that history on Liberty was very interesting. Thanks for bringing us along and I'm glad yall had a safe trip
That's REAL American history there. To a lot of us old timers that is the pinical of automobile design (with a conventional frame and combustion engine anyway)
I just found your channel, enjoy watching you bring these cars back to life is nothing short of amazing. Refreshing to watch someone actually performing diagnostics and not just changing the looks of a car. True talent!
Nothing to laugh about a build that runs 12s in the quarter, kept up in such beautiful condition, and slapped the same time down decades later. The previous owner really loved that car. So cool you got the history of it. That one definitely has a soul to it.
Great history on the old girl. Brings me back to my high school days. Owned a 69 SS 396 in those days. One where near as hopped up as this machine. Still have a soft spot for Chevelles.
So glad you named the "new" Chevelle Liberty. I was one of many who liked that name and suggested it. For those of us who love our country and its' history, having Liberty as a name made perfect sense. Love your channel and watch every episode. The best channel on UA-cam in my opinion.
My favorite car in your fleet by far. Brings a feller back to 1984 when I had my 70 Nova 396. My best ever was 11.11 in the quarter. Had a lot of help from the old drag dude neighbor, Thanks Tim. I think she needs a BB and keep her old school like the first owner.
When people ask me why I dig VGG so much. I point to videos like this. Where I can watch a guy and his family do what I would love to do. Sadly my disability keeps me from doing. Yet I'm all about spending time with my wife, our kids and grandkids. ❤
I'm loving the upload schedule recently!!! Can't get enough of VGG! Who else agrees?! I love when I see that notification of your uploads! You're literally the only UA-camr I have taken to time to have it tell me when you upload! Best vehicle content on the platform! And TV!!!!!
Beautiful car with an awesome story. Looking forward to seeing which direction you go with it. But I have a couple of suggestions. 1) Invest in some fairly nice fender covers (I know, it's wierd, but that paint really is perty), and 2) consider putting a wrap on it. You could go with an updated Independance or totally new Liberty scheme, while keeping and protecting that awesome blue paint that has been on the car for years. Whatever you do, or don't do, I can't wait for the next part of the story.
Derrick, since the first video I saw of yours, the White Caddie in the field, I subscribed to your channel. I have yet to be disappointed with your content. Thank you and your family for doing what you do and sharing it with us. You are a blessing and inspiration to many of your followers! God Bless you and your family!
👏👏👏👏 ramp truck. Liberty knows she has some big shoes to fill to measure up to independence but what an impressive 3 runs. Can’t wait to see more. Thanks for taking us with you on this day out 💪
Man, that is one *SWEET* Chevelle! If a guy gets that shifter straightened out, and a decent radiator, I think it could run a 12 flat in the quarter with a few timing and tire mods. Talk about low budget racing, that's it right there, Derek!! What a great ride.😄👍🏁 *EDIT:* I just went back and looked at your test and tune video, and looked at the distributor. You'd be wise to upgrade that to an HEI unit, and open your plugs up to .045 for some easy horsepower on that small block!😉
Enjoy watching yur show guy.. I’m now 58 years old, but growing up w 5 older brothers .. I was around all brands of cars 70’s &80’s Chevelles Plymouth Dusters ,’57 Chevys , El Caminos , u name ‘em my bros had them.. enjoyed the video thanks Hagd
Beautiful Chevelle!….I love that year!…Looks great, sounds super and performs great too!… I always love watching your channel, you’re awesome, funny, down to earth and tell it like it is!…Thanks for all the laughs, and great advise…keep it going……✌🏻
Love the backstory just makes the video. Seeing it do what the man said it would do this many years later is just amazing. Seeing you spend time with the family doin a little shopping having some ice cream …just as if not even more amazing!
I had a '71 Chevelle Malibu with 3 speed automatic on the floor back in the late 70s early 80s. My first car. It was ivory white with a darl top to it. I loved that car!
I appreciate the thanks you give us all Derek, for helping make these adventures possible for you and your family. I in turn thank you and your family for making these videos and sharing your adventures with us. I as many others would, look forward to what your next project and adventure will look like.👍
Derek such a great car and it's my all time favorite color. I did things like this in a 1973 Z28. It was great fun. It is great to see you and your family doing all these things together. I'm an old school guy so I really like the car as it is. Looking forward to see what you have in store for it in the future. May God bless you and your family.
I grew up in Lawrenceburg and remember when this was built, it stayed packed every weekend. In my senior year of high school I moved to Ethridge and got to sit outside and listen every weekend to the passes. It's a great little track!
You remind me of my Grandfather so much, he use to drag race at the EXACT SAME DRAG STRIP IN THIS VIDEO. We live 15 minutes up the road beside my nana, (his wife) he passed in 2005. he wheeled and dealed and loved old American muscle. His last vehicle he built/restored was a 1969 Chevelle 396. It's cherry red with a black ragtop and 10/10 original black leather interior. It has a Moroso built 454 big block in it for drag racing. The original 396 is sitting on a engine stand right beside it. It's all original. It's been sitting in a metal pole barn it's whole life. 0 rust, my nana was offered 15k cash 10 years ago for it and she said heck no! She'll never sell it which I'm so grateful for. The car was actually raced at this exact track in the video. If you'd like to come by and take a look me, my dad, and my nana would love it. My nana loves your videos as well, because it reminds her of my pawpaw. We live directly off Highway 43, 10 miles up from this drag strip. We live right beside my nana. It's a blessing.
One sweet ride that's for sure. Enjoyed hearing it's history straight from the original owners as well. Sounds like a few minor tweaks to dial it in and send it! Also I couldn't walk past those cameras without picking them up as well.
I had the same car back in the late 80"s (white). 350 4sp 4.88. my best time was also a 12.3. sold it to a friend for his son s' first car.. hit a tree and it look like a boomerang... son was fine , car... RIP
I love the fact that you have taken the time to keep the history of the car ongoing for the previous owner. It's obvious he took great care of it. Love that 1956 Buick sitting on top also. I had a 56' Century that looked almost identical. Great video and time spent with family.
I've been watching forever you never never ever fail to deliver. By the way I love the Cheville. We are privileged to see a car owned by two dedicated car guys like you and the previous owner
Liberty is going to be awesome to watch what you do with her Derek! Keep doing what you do and sharing the the VGG journey with us! You’re helping us dream about what we are hoping for in the future!
Liberty looked like a contender on her way to the lane. The new pipes howling down the strip sounded great! Glad to see this ol beast roaring to back to life.
I came across your channel a couple of months ago and have been binge watching ever since. I have to echo the other comments in appreciation of your channel. I love your emphasis on family and your wholesome content. I learned all I know about cars from helping my dad when I was a kid. I wish we would have had a garage to work in ( think changing a tranny in the winter on a dirt driveway in Erie PA) But you remind me of my dad back then. Since he passed 2 yrs ago, I have been trying to spend more time with my son (12) He was a preemie who came at 28 weeks and spent 4 months in the NICU. I would like to find a late 70's-80's car for cheap that we could fix up for him for when he turns 16. Rust is no biggie cause I am a fabricator/welder. I was Inspired to do this by you so thanks and keep the awesome content coming.
Well, Derek, this one fits right in my groove, for sure! I'm a '70 grad at age 70! Never owned a big block, but played with every small block from 265 to 350, back in the day! You've got Liberty looking, running, and sounding SWEET! What a treat for this old feller! You never disappoint! Blessings to you and yours.
When I was in the military I had a 71 Chevelle and loved it. I was stationed at Ft. Hood Tx. They had a race track at the time in 1975 I used to run a 13.9 in quarter mile back then that was respectable it was a lot of fun to run but also working on the car enjoyed watching this segment I would love to see more with that car take care good luck
Thanks for another awesome video! This feller has inspired me in so many ways from tinkering on vehicles and farm equipment with more confidence to just being a good human. I catch myself mimicking his UA-cam “character” everyday and laugh at myself. I hope to shake this man’s hand one day and say thank you for being you.
Couldn't be more thankful to have found your channel the amount of motivation you provide me to finish my projects and just how hard working you are really inspires me. Keep making great content and thank you for always bringing something enjoyable to watch
Great video - I really like the idea of keeping it a late 80's monster street / strip car. Would love to see it rev out with a big old school solid flat tappet cam with 250+ @.050 duration and the 4.88 gears. Like an Isky Z-30 or even an old GM Z28 off-road race cam
@@davelowets I mean if it's got 11:1 you can go pretty big on the duration. As far as I know I don't think the compression has been checked yet the heads haven't come off.
As someone who never knew much about cars growing up, wanting to learn about it now and I find it really interesting to see your thought process when working on cars that don’t run or are having issues. Thank you for all and what you’re continuing to do on this channel!
Your welcome my friend. Everything you do has been mine and my brothers life as long as I can remember. We both built cars and made it from 14 second runs down to the 11’s. This video reminds me of every Friday night running around trying to make it to the track. I lost my brother in 2021, he was only 49. My life has been in shambles since. My 11 second 3rd gen hasn’t left the trailer since. Thank you for all the videos!
Back in the late 80s pulled a old Newport with my v6 80 Camaro about 50 miles to a Bumb and Run with a chain.Track was Checker Flag in Windsor Ontario, closed now. Tuned in from Ontario. 🇨🇦
Love the sound of that motor! I hope you do some incremental mods with plenty of testing. Better shifter, electric fans, hotter spark, etc. I agree with the guy that suggested fender covers to protect the paint. With VGG logos they would be a good addition to the store.
I'd spend my money on a proper trans and rear for this car. Even if you're only pushing 500hp, a trans brake and a locker are good investments to get your ET to be more consistent for bracket racing. That and proper valve springs. Stop the valves from floating.
Great job on the seat, it looks like she fits you much better now. Man, that is one gorgeous color it's sporting! You really don't need to thank us for the ability to witness you enjoying the fruits of your labor. Many may not realize the amount of work that it takes to get an old beast race-ready, but many certainly do. Beyond that, YOU probably have no idea how rewarding it is, and how much of a super-positive influence you create by letting us sit-in and see your family brimming with joy doing what you love so much. In today's uber-divisive society, the values you and Jessica have instilled in your boys brings hope and happiness to this sexegenarian!!!
Shoot even the first episode with Liberty when he's goin over the power barn you could tell he was happier than a bird with a french fry, it's great to see
What a great find. The car has such a unique history and been preserved so well I’d love to see it stay more or less in its current form. Pull the 406, tear it down and closely inspect, and rebuild it with some modern techniques and equipment, especially heads/valve train to raise the RPM and power thresholds safely & reliably. Put a serious cooling system and a Gear Vendors overdrive unit in it and make it a true Sick Week machine. I know it would be fun to swap a big block or spicy LS into it, but I’d love to see it optimized in its current state and keep its history intact for future generations to enjoy. Long time subscriber, love the channel and can’t wait to see you work on that GN!
Absolutely great video! Our 406 has heavily worked Trac 1 heads and it makes a difference. I would say with a really good set of heads, a swap to E85 and see if you need a little different carb would make a good difference. What about the gear? What was the rpm when you crossed the finish line? I would bet at least a 4.56 would help. We're running 5.38 and crossing the finish line at 6700. I wonder about your rear tires as well. Thank you ..... fellow Tennessean!
I had a couple sheets of asbestos I got from a farm auction. Came in real handy for insulating plus wires from headers. Real good for behind the blow torch in tight areas too
Great time capsule. Loved watching it go down the track. Don't know what your plans are but it would be great to see what swapping to a modern set of performance cylinder heads does to its quarter mile times. Just change the heads only and run it.
I absolutely love your channel, you remind me of me lol. Every since I seen your show on the discovery channel I watched all of the episodes and then I turned to UA-cam to see if I could find more videos or episodes there and I had no idea that you had all the videos on UA-cam. I honestly can’t stop watching your videos because you have a way of putting it out there to where it’s original and you care about the story behind the vehicles and you bring back memories of the great times we had back in the day. Keep it coming I truly enjoy it.
What does your E.T. translate to horsepower b/c if I remember right when it was on the chassis dyno hp’s were 230. I think that was way low. Also Thank-you Derek, Jessica and the boys for keeping us entertained over the passes years. I’ve been watching you since you were less than 300K. Keep up the great work love y’all much!!

Agreed 👍
Great move for the family!
The third pass, showing the 8.10, I threw up my hands in excitement!!! F YEAH! This channel, Derek and his family are awesome.
Same here, or if you are going to run a turbo no digitals keep it all analog.
I’d keep it carb too.
These videos really help a guy keep on trucking during the darkest times. Thank god for you, your family, and the incredible work you do to educate and entertain us. Thank you very much.
well said Sir!!🙏🏼🤘
I hope you feel better soon
Wow, thank you!
I agree
Ditto
Absolutely gorgeous Chevelle! My first car was a '70 Chevelle. I bought in the summer of 1987 and I still have it. For now, I'd leave the 406 in it, but when you do decide to build it, I'd stay old school and go big block and front disc brakes. Leave those wheels on it, they look incredible on that car! PERFECT sibling for Independence! Keep doing what you're doing Derek, this is the best automotive show in existence!
Uffda Mae hitting the headers with the hammer haha that had me uneasy but it worked!
You've got the best muscle car content on YT by far! Loving the content man, keep it up!
Thank you
My favorite thing about your channel is that you include your family.
Thank you sir!

One of by favorite episodes. Love the car, the history and the fact you brought it to the track and ran it like it was 1988. Good stuff.
Thanks
Currently this is my favourite car of your collection..great history with it and love the respect you’ve shown it and it’s previous proud owner
Leaves faster than a step dad 😂😂😂😂
The car is a gem.
I'm just a viewer who read your post and just had to say bless you and stay strong! Love from Upstate NY, USA!
I collect old cameras too 😎. Built 383 stroker, a new shifter and maybe a line lock. 🏁
Yes, great project! But make the shifter a priority! Keep up the great content!
Didn’t he put the motor from independence into that nascar truck chassis?
@@andywagoner4869 He put the original 454 he built for Independence in the nascar truck. the Blueprint 540 is still in Independence.
@@konfyoused oh gotcha.
Thanks for the kind words
@ViceGripGarage ❤ you are so cool dude 😎
Please just do your thing and run it.
Or build the largest N/A massive cubic inch big block he can
I second this. It's the perfect way to continue the cars progression and honor its roots.
This car is gorgeous! Looks great on the ramp truck. Love the history! One of your best episodes so far.
Thanks a ton!
Enjoy!!!
Been awesome watching this car progress. Like it was with independence!
That was one of your very best videos 👍 I'm also bigtime into history of antique vehicles and that history on Liberty was very interesting. Thanks for bringing us along and I'm glad yall had a safe trip

Applause given to the ramp truck and to you and the family. Another awesome video Derek and keep it ol school.
Great history on the old girl. Brings me back to my high school days. Owned a 69 SS 396 in those days. One where near as hopped up as this machine. Still have a soft spot for Chevelles.
Gotta love it vgg hits us with a Friday evening upload.
So glad you named the "new" Chevelle Liberty. I was one of many who liked that name and suggested it. For those of us who love our country and its' history, having Liberty as a name made perfect sense. Love your channel and watch every episode. The best channel on UA-cam in my opinion.
Not a lot of liberty for the indigenous population or does history only start after colonisation?

A new Friday night VGG episode = The World's going to be ok

Was hoping for more on this rig since the drive home! Yes! 😎🤘
If you missed it he did an episode where he put it on the Dyno
Man, that is one *SWEET* Chevelle! If a guy gets that shifter straightened out, and a decent radiator, I think it could run a 12 flat in the quarter with a few timing and tire mods. Talk about low budget racing, that's it right there, Derek!! What a great ride.😄👍🏁 *EDIT:* I just went back and looked at your test and tune video, and looked at the distributor. You'd be wise to upgrade that to an HEI unit, and open your plugs up to .045 for some easy horsepower on that small block!😉

What a sick lookin set up!! Two rigs I'd absolutely love to see stay on the channel for the long haul 💪 💚
The reverse valve body shifter sounded pretty cool. If you do an engine swap keeping it old school with a 454 would be pretty cool too.
that chevelle could have had anywhere from a 250 straight six to a 307, 2 different 350 options, or a 400. a 454 was available in SS trim only.
The colour and styling of this chevelle plus the chrome accents makes it beautiful to look at. Another great episode - thankyou Derek Jess and Fam.

Great episode Derrick...VGG is solid gold brother.....keep up the great work....
Well, Derek, this one fits right in my groove, for sure! I'm a '70 grad at age 70! Never owned a big block, but played with every small block from 265 to 350, back in the day! You've got Liberty looking, running, and sounding SWEET! What a treat for this old feller!

one thing I do admire, you don't rev the crap out of your cars like most other you tube want to be do
Great video - I really like the idea of keeping it a late 80's monster street / strip car. Would love to see it rev out with a big old school solid flat tappet cam with 250+ @.050 duration and the 4.88 gears. Like an Isky Z-30 or even an old GM Z28 off-road race cam

That was a lot of fun watching you run that car , always enjoy watching what you have planned next. Thank you so very much for all you do.
One of your best episodes I have seen. It feels as though you're elevating everything about your show.
The best to you and yours.
