So behave yourself, South Africans have got more than a fair shout and you’ll see any 1 of Ox, Kolbe or PSDT win it this year and rightfully so.
The criteria for men’s 15s player of the year is only men’s international rugby games. Not club rugby or sevens. It’s an easy choice, either PSDT or Ox, no one else is really in the debate.
@@jameswyatt4443 I'd say Itoje has a somewhat decent chance of winning/receiving a nomination, especially if England win on saturday which is unlikely but he's had a phenomenal year, a heck of a lot better than Doris.
I am South African. There is no way that a South African will win the World Player of the world. There is so much anamosity against the Boks because they are so successful.
Ox contributes 9 to 12 points a game just on the back of scrum penalties. How can n player like that not be World Player of the Year. He is a game changer!
1- Ox 2- PSDT 3- Kolbe 4- Doris The biggest thing DuPont did this year was in 7's, he didnt play many 15's internationals and only international tests count for poty. So he doesn't deserve it.
They clearly don’t know the criteria because he indeed isn’t eligible. Yet, that’s quite telling. Without knowing the eligibility criteria, just talking pure rugby, they would give it to him hands down because he is, the best rugby player out there. But he won’t win this year, though I suspect he might win 7s POTY.
Just a thought, do with it what you must. Just check the rules before doing a pod, a lot of the conversations is pretty pointless. I love the pod though 💪🏻
As much as PSDT and Kolbe deserves it, it has to be Ox. Props simply don't get the love they deserve, despite the fact that they are the most important players on the pitch. The late, great Danie Craven said that the first name on the team sheet was your tighthead and the second name on was your reserve tighthead. Nevermind the fact that no prop has ever won WPOTY, no prop has ever been NOMINATED for the award! This is such an injustice. As far as Dupont goes, he has 28 minute of playing time in the Souther Hemisphere, he has never made it past the quarter finals of a world cup - and never will - and has only one Six Nations title to his name. He is not the best player now, he was not the best player then. To us, he is nothing more than a victim.
I agree ox should win it because Dupont hasn’t played enough. But what do you have against him, how can you base a player entirely on one game (which he played brilliantly but was still on the losing side unfortunately).
Criteria is only test rugby, no club or sevens and everything after the last World Cup. Has to be between Ox Nche, PSDT, and Caelan Doris. It would be great if Jesse Kriel gets nominated but I think it is going to be between the above mentioned 3.
A prop has never even been nominated for World Player of the Year. Ox has to right this wrong that has been inflicted on all great props! Do it for the heavy mob Ox!
POTY is decided on players after the World Cup, and Dupont has only played one game since then. Wallace Sititi can only be nominated as new comer of the year as he hasn’t played international rugby for a full year or more.
No one will say this but I will. No1 No2 No3 are all Springboks. World rugby won’t do it, but it’s true. PSDT, Ox and Kriel. Throw in Eben for good measure or even Kolbe.
Whilst Dupont is the best player in the world, it should be a South African player for sure. Definitely not Mark Tele'a - he was dropped for Sevu Reece for multiple games in the rugby championship this year.
DuPont is a glory boy who looks good in the Six Nations and never travels to the cauldrons of the Southern Hemisphere, where he will be exposed by proper opposition and hostile crowds. It is easy to look good among the average players in the Six Nations.
He looks good every where. 6 Nations, internationals, champions cup, top 14, sevens, RWC etc. With that being said, he shouldnt be in contention for mens 15's player of the year because he hasnt played any 15's test matches
What makes you think that playing in the southern hemisphere is any different than say playing Ireland away when they were undoubtedly the strongest team in the world?
They need to change the rule so you have a forward and back player of the year. The forwards do most of the work in rugby and do not get any reward for it.
Dupont has played *ONE* test ... how is he even in the conversation? Sevens isn't International rugby, it's a different code with it's own awards. No idea why people brown nose him so much anyway. French media hype is apparently contagious.
How on earth can Dupont be considered. Club rugby is not part of the criteria and neither sevens as I understand and he has only played 1 test match all year. That would be a bit of a joke.
I think its somewhat unfair to pick one player as the worlds best.... What about choosing the worlds best player for each position. 15 players have all complete different tasks on the field
If OX doesnt get it, its a sham. Dupont is amazing but hardly played any internal rugby. Hard to say he is the best when he played 7s. WPOTY only looks at players who have played international rugby for two or more seasons. Sotiti is ineligible. DuPont has only played one test match this year. Kolbe has done everything but scrum this year, but I wouldn’t be mad if they gave Dorris his spot in the nominations.
Why would dupont win world player of the year when he was playing sevens all year, He'll probably win Sevens player of the year, its embarrassing how much they rate the guy who failed against the guys they say he's better than
7's absolutely doesn't count. I didn't even watch the Olympic 7's...because it's not rugby, not the same sport. Dupont didn't play enough international rugby this year to even be nominated.
OX is a wonderful player, but he played his best stuff in 2023, obviously the RWC win doesn't come into it this year.
