What is really good about this channel is that it’s presented by true legends of the game but they do so without arrogance & a true respect for all other nations. They don’t talk like ‘know it alls’ but are still prepared to voice strong views, especially if the Boks are falling down on something. We are very lucky followers having this quality (& for eg Megafoon Sport by MW Welman) available to us. Thanks guys Lood is first-rate & Shimmy a great contributor too.
I think you boys need to rebrand this a bit. Right now ‘The verdict’ doesn’t immediately come across as rugby. And you also need put yourselves in the thumbnail, because right now it just comes off as a random rugby channel, more people will click if they see that the people talking are some of the greatest players of all time. The analysis on this channel is top tier, not enough fans know about it.
I agree with you This program has the potential to excel beyond its current performance and become a leading rugby discussion platform on social media with effective branding.
The insight and analysis is top notch. Too many other shows lack serious content and are overly focused on personalities. Lood is an excellent addition.
And what I really want to get at, that hearing it from such educated students of the game, they somehow bring up “ how it actually works , feels and smells like on the field and in the moment
We really are spoilt with so many excellent rugby channels from all over the world - Legends of the game that bring all their knowledge and experience to these reviews - and this one is one of the best - thank you guys, really appreciate everything that you bring to these videos and the 53 minutes just flew by....
I've been watching guys from all over the rugby world talk about these games and this was the best of them... but it has really never been better for me as a rugby fan in the US.
Looks pretty relevant to me. Thank you for breaking the game down so systematically and eloquently, even though this is your second language. Well done indeed.
Afrikaans is Schalk, Jean, and Lood's first language. In fact, there are very few Springbok players, past and present, who's first language is English.
@@hospagalief What is your point? How many players in the 2007 Bok team's first language is English? How many in the current team? The overwhelming majority of South African rugby players, especially Bok players, first language is not English, that is a fact. In the 2007 team it was Butch, Smit and Monty, that was it. In the current squad it is only Marx and Sacha who's first language is English.
The best countdown on a slow ruck ball was that guy who shouted to the ref : 4,3,2,1,0,-1,-2,-3 😂😂😂 Different game but still cracks me up when I see that clip.
As a Scot have to say great analysis. Fair and balanced. Interesting how you read the red card and Mabimpe try. Regardless the best team won, power in the end won the game.
As an old member of the Transvaal Scottish Battalion, with a history connected to the Black Watch. The atmosphere and the pre game was sensational. I have a great fondness for the Scots. They played so well, the scoreline does not reflect the game. On the flipside, the boks playing a messy mistake ridden game still managed to pull off a win as a visiting team was a sign of their prowess. What a great weekend of spectacular rugby....this could bring people back to stadia!
Starting team: ox, bongi, du toit, eben, psdt(franco is to rusty), kolisi, louw, wiese, reinach, pollard(if its more wet)/libbok, arendse, de allande, kriel, kolbe, fassi bench: marx, steenkamp, louw(to destroy their weak bench), rg, mostert(or kleun), kwaga, williams, moodie(if it rains and drop libbok)/pollard if mannie starts
I fully agree with Lood , the Springboks set a high benchmark of play …a win is a win …exiting times when you’re a Bok , can’t wait for next game …Rassie certainly exposed the whole team to play but need to brush up with the team selection on the next games as to keep the winning momentum spirit
Guys, your insights are just wonderful!! Just my two cwnts, it is OK to help Kwagga to his 50, but honestly, he is only good when the opposition is tired. And Siya, well, he didn't turn over one ball? He is a flanker after all. But, overall, it was a great game.
So happy you guys are back! Also, who the hell says you guys are not relevant. Quality content and one day we need this show on tour as well. Jean, Schalla and Shimmy with joined by some overseas guests...
Brilliant analysis. The one minor comment I’d make on the first try is the TMO was all over every other minor infraction so how in the hell could he miss that ?
I've looked at the video slowed down, and I believe Mapimpi was in. Yes, doesn't look good a few frames later, as he hits the deck, but right arm was extended as he grounded the ball.
14:32 look at the two cleaners both grabs a shoulder and both falls on the knee joints? Not one stays on his feet and grabs Franko's arm and leg and drive him clockwise to stop his hands from taking the ball? I mean they were nowhere near the head because Hendricks was in the way. But in that situation you know the guy is gonna jackel and you have access to the side, his right arm and leg, yet instead of grabbing both at the same time and throw him up and backwards, you fall on the knee joint, and not just fall , you do the perfect croc role by first twisting the neck down which puts tension on the kneecap because the studs stay in the ground, and then you fall perfectly on said joint with your whole upper body? 15:01 the 5 knows not to grab around the neck and pull down and he knows not to then fall on the exposed leg because thats where the injuries happen. Yet if you look closely you can see him looking down as he falls perfectly on the knee joint, doesnt even try to bail out and fall on the shin or foot? The only reason he didnt put all his weight on, is because his teamate caused Mostert to fall backwards via a similar croc role... Should we wait for players to get carreer ending injuries to start saying it's wrong to grab the neck and fall inwards on the leg? How hard is it to just stay on your feet and at that angle, grab a leg and arm and drive Mostert clock wise? Or atleast grab the arm and pull backwards because he cant jackle with one arm? WR talks with the unions via agents and they have been adament croc role is ultimate sanction. There is absolutely no difference between Bongi in WC final and this one. Only difference is Mostert fell backwards because of the other guy also doing a jackle. If not for that, Scot wouldve done the perfect croc role by grabbing around the neck and falling on the knee cap, buckling it inside toward the ground. It's not about result but intent, his intentions were clear which is why he got a carded. Scotland havent beaten boks in 10y and they knew only way beating the champs is by doing this, just like NZ knew they had to do it in the final orherwise they were gonna get another 35-7. Mostert already had a broken knee bone he doesnt need cleaners falling of feet or diving over players and magicaly falling on his kneecap...
He said in an earlier episode during, the Rugby Championship analysis I think, that he’s busy with rehab for his should surgery and should be back early in 2025.
Hi guys , what does the week-ends results tell you about the standard of the rugby championship compared to the six nations , is the rugby championship way better and tougher ? Piet out of New Zealand
Consider this rule change, instead of counting down the ball at the base of a ruck to then award a scrum, why not deem the ball playable or out of the ruck after 5 second? Continuity resumes.
England had our number for 70 of 80 minutes in WC semi. They know how to play us, and will be desperate for a win. No way we can go with Manie and Fassi lightweight combo, we need the heavyweight division guys to do the job, Pollard & Willie.
Depends on the weather. The World Cup semi was wet. The forecast was for rain in the second half (with Polly on the bench) but it started raining early which caused Manie to struggle. If it’s good weather Manie will be fine. Fassi is great in the air, moreso than Willie and England is going to put up a lot of bombs. Willie on the bench for me.
Rassie went with Manie and Fassi .England are going to play a tactical kicking game , especially with the new law with no blocking the player catching the kicks .By choosing Manie we will attack and play a bit more rugby .Also Fassi is great on counter attack.
It’s likely to rain and be miserable. As they heading into winter and well it’s England. I think we struggled against England in the Semis last year because we just beat a French team that took a lot out of us and we deployed the wrong troops. It won’t happen this time. Expect the forwards to be the same but bench Kwagga and start Wiese. DeAllende and Kriel in and Arendse and Kolbe back. Le Roux keeps his spot
You need to have the camera vieweing all three of them at al times, will be much better imo. Alsom for the love of God, put time stamps if ur video is freaking 50 min long. The intenret has moved on, this isnt 2004 anymore.
Good to see some expert analysis, but you guys need to put your faces in the thumbnail so more people can recognise you and subscribe as it looks like a random amatuer rugby channel.
Why are the springboks lineouts a hot mess? They can't win their own throws and trying to compete with the opposition's ball is like playing a game of 'keep away'... and they're always the ones getting kept away!
I think lineouts in general have become more difficult for all teams. Every major team has had issues at the lineout which I think indicates that lineout defence has just become much better these days. Luckily we can rely on the scrum where as many teams, with the exception of New Zealand and maybe France, can’t rely on it.
Regarding your view on the red card. I also heard that it came as a result of players injuring each other in the rucks. More specifically, what happened to Bongi Mbonambi in last year's world cup final. The players intentionally landed on Bongi's leg and could have caused an injury taking months to get back from. In this red card incident, a similar thing happened and apparently the refs have been told to be hard on it.
Pish poor English referee on the field pish poor English referee as the TMO and a world class English referee running the line , why am I not surprised !
It’s such an obvious solution. Either add an orange card for the 20min + sub punishment, or add a black card and use that for dirty play that results in a permanent ejection without a sub.
Avoid scare? They won by 17 points, 4 tries to 0 😄 It was mostly a B team starting. Were we supposed to beat the best Scottish team this century by 40 points?
@@deeperanddownand first try wasn’t legit. As someone else pointed out a disallowed try and an allowed try was the main difference. But otherwise we’ll done SA.
