I was at this great show... had great seats... came down to the floors when the Who came on... fuck was it a hot night... can still remember 40 years later.
Definitely a Schecter. Pete started playing them in 1979 after Alan Rogan bought a couple at Rudy's Music in NYC and brought them to one of the MSG shows, and Pete liked them so much they became his main axes. At that point, he was still using the Les Pauls for the capo songs (ie Drowned, 5:15, and Baba O'Riley), but 80-82 it was Schecters all the way, though some of them were built from Schecter parts by a UK luthier named Roger Griffin.
I was there. Fond memories. Moved out to TO fresh from London and the Quadrophenia scene (apres punk). Wonderful. Still got my Parka. Got so many women in TO in the 80's. "I just LOVE your British accent". Good times.
Was there as well had tickets in the seats, in the shade so it wasnt to hot. Was with a buddy and a cpl of GFs but when the WHO came on stage my buddy and I ditched the girls for the the field - they werent happy but it was a great show and fun to get close
Another comment on Rog's windmilling with Pete, I saw him do it at the 1980 show in Lexington Ky. & I was blown away, as I never saw him do that before & also..when Pete jumps at the final in Won't get fooled again, Rog jumps "in sic" with Pete then also..Best time I ever saw the WHO, they were RAW & LOUD not like the HBO show in 82' That was SO tame...I remember Rog later said he thought it was too. They should have broadcast the Show they did in Tampa in 82'...RAW & LOUD They Rocked it there!
They must have been experimenting with the chorus of I Can't Explain on this tour, by adding a few beats between each vocal line. They went back to the regular way by the 1982 farewell tour.
@john683011 No. they only did the expanded chorus aftr moonie died. So on stage '79 onwards. The 'Tales of the Who' Bootleg is from Philli '73 (I think recorded for King Biscuit's Flower Hour???) and is the standard I Can't Explain as played through the whole Moon/4 piece period. It is an interesting expansion on the chorus, it's just Rabbit's organ really bugs me!
Debbie Craig - Would it be possible to see the Who photos you took at this gig, or any Who gig with Moon or Jones? I will buy prints if you have good shots or trade scans of mine for yours. Thanks for any reply if you are still logging on here.
My first big show! 17 years old and my mom let me go to Toronto from Rochester NY!

Yeah...I was at the CNE concert back in 1980...Heart opened for them, I do recall that...
Lol John's expression.

Interesting way of expanding the chorus on "I Can't Explain". Nice footage. I love that Schecter guitar.
I was front row to that show. Nash the slash got booed off the stage.
J. Giels kicked ass as did Heart.

my dad showed me a photo album and it was pictures from this concert, ticket stub too.
Went to this concert with my husband. Took tons of pictures. Great concert
"I've had some Old Crow experience". Beautiful comeback from a an experienced old crow legend! I miss this guy so much!
I was at that concert. J. Giles Band and Heart opened. Great day.

This was my very first concert
he really drove bass/instrument technology from 60s-00s
lol ,i was there at both, i wish i remembered
They used to do that version of the chorus a lot in the '70s. For a recorded example, lsten to Tales of the Who...
I was at the show when Nash the Slash, Heart and J. Geils opened. I believe that is a Schecter telecaster
Yes I saw that show too. Thanks for jogging my memory. I knew Heart opened, but forgot about Nash and J. Geils. What year was that?
still have ticket stub from may 5 show i was 15 from renfrew on
Well, you're lucky then.
In the who, I always though that John had the coolest instruments! :D
I was at the CNE Grandstand show...
I was at this one on the floor. Also saw in the who in early eighty's with Joe Jackson.
Love Joe Jackson but got boo off stage.
JD's Hair by: The Haircutting Place at Simpson's.

Jeanne Becker from Citytv when they were at 99 Queen St. E.
The Ox: "Yeh, I've 'ad some auld pro experience..."
I was at 1980 CNE Stsdium concert - hotter than hell 95 degrees+
J. Geils,Nash the Slash and Heart opened the show...
Is great to see classic J. D. Roberts and Jeannie Becker interviews....are the interviews with Jeannie and the Police floating around somewhere?
cool version of ''I Can't Explain''
Check Pete's equipment during the years over the web, it's well documented. I know, those are made intentionally to fool the eye ;D
The first stadium seating concert since Cincinnati??
I guess they were waiting for us placid Canadian fans.
The audio over 'who are you' is not live- its from the 'kids are alright' movie where the who jam over the backing tapes! Wee bit obsessive i know lol
According to Richard Barnes book Maximum R&B, Pete was completely coked out and a bit out of control on the Concord flight home after this very show.
Well, the name Kenny is usually spelled with only one e. As for Entwistle, I guess most people just don't realize there's no h in The Ox's surname
pete is playing a fender and john is playing an alembic... either your mistaken or im missing something...
These shows where electric !!!
