  • Four school boards from across Ontario have launched legal action against four of the biggest social media platforms citing their negative impact on students; video of a private garbage collector's truck spitting black smoke has prompted renewed calls for the city to resume providing the service west of Yonge Street; and, a Brampton homeowner said he's on the hook $27,000 after a contractor damaged his underground hydro line while doing renovations.

Apps such as Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok are harming children?
So the School Board wants to sue these social media giants because of these apps and the harm they're causing for children?
Why aren't they suing the parents of bullies? Bullies cause not just mental harm but physical harm.

Edit: In fact, all adults should be doing a better job safeguarding children from these behaviour affecting things and if adults collectively kept children from social media from the very onset the children wouldn't be as affected as they are today. What is happening in Florida should've been mandatory legislation at least a decade ago.

I seem like I am glued to my phone because I work on my phone and I also read on my phone like actual books and news articles instead of getting an actual book or newspaper. And I recently started using social media, because I am trying to learn how to network and socialize since many people prefer small talk in this extroverted society and they avoid meaningful conversations. Small talk turns into long talk but never a meaningful conversations in a way where you can actually reach out to somebody when you are dealing with a stressful event in life.
Phones also help people avoid interacting with people they are probably trying to avoid like a lot of people do instead of actually confronting people and interacting with them. Even on the bus people use their phones instead of looking around at other people.

The school boards are in no position to make such statements, nor do they have the right to govern what internet tools parents allow their children. In fact it is long past time we got rid of these relics from a bygone age of isolated communities.
