I have to admit Kodlak was an instant favourite the moment I met him. He is honourable which in my opinion is a key trait in a true warrior. He is also wise, down to earth and fair. When he died I legitimately felt anger, I felt a drive, a need to avenge him despite his apparent not caring for vengeance; and I felt at peace when I helped him enter Sovangarde.

He isn't all that intelligent. What he is exceedingly wise. He understands people and isn't full of himself. He is a humble, pius man. All this combined makes him a truly superb leader. He knows he isn't all that smart but makes up for it with deliberation. He doesn't rush and is willing to listen to others to expand his outlook. Wisdom is often more valuable than intelligence as wisdom lets you proceed with confidence where a more intellectually superior person would be uncertain. Having both is wonderful, but all can cultivate wisdom. But few, whether they be geniuses or dullards, ever do.

I don't agree with your idea that most NPC's don't care about their afterlife. I think most NPC have no questions about their afterlife because their fate was determined at birth. A nord will end up in Sowngarde (unless he's a coward) because he was born in a nord family. An orc will join Malacath's heaven if he's loyal to the code. Religious people in our world have existential crisis and doubt because they can't have a direct contact with their god(s). Most gods in TES give you a clear step by step process for a happy afterlife and will directly tell you if you don't do it correctly. Just look what happens to Yamarz : Malacath tells him he's a cowards but gives him a chance to redeem himself.

The other I was genuinely sad about is Veezara, the Shadowscale Argonian in the Dark Brotherhood, and there again, even now, I'm always reminded at the end of that quest that it's a shame we don't get more chances to interact with Veezara in more meaningful ways because he seems *incredibly* interesting (I love Argonians & their lore).

I feel like he's only REALLY the Archmage because of formality; plenty of people show more intelligence then he, and you never get to see him use any sort of impressive magic to signify he's gifted in that area. (Though perhaps the souls of his allies bound to keep a dragon priest at bay in Labyrinthian might be an example, it is never truly explained as something Savos did himself and is only inferred.) When you speak to him, it's almost as though he's exhasperated, repeating things that he repeats on a daily basis, and very rarely shows any true interest in what's happening around him, only becoming interested when you dismiss his own words, that the Augur of Dunlain doesn't exist, and actually speak to the Augur. And even then, he sends you off to someone else to get information, as though he couldn't be bothered remembering the details of a conversation with Mirabelle he had *a week ago*. How about 'Why Ulfric is an Idiot'
He started a Civil war that was completly and unnecessary and (depending on the players choice) sealed his own fate by doing so.
to clarify, because I know I'm gonna get down voted for this ^^
after the White gold concordance was singned the worship of thalos was made illegal, everyone knows that part, but what most people seam to miss is that this ban was not actually enforced in skyrim until after the Markath incident, where Ulfric demanded that the Jarl of Markath go against the dominion and legalise the worship of Thalos. Of course the elves didn't like that and in turn demanded that the Empire stayed true to the peace contract, that saved it from total annihilation.
So while the worship of Thalos was banned in skyrim since after the war, it has only recently been enforced by the Thalmor, and only because of Ulfrics actions

    • @bullseye5262
      @bullseye5262 5 років тому +3

Dr.feelalright exactly plus the people of Markath ASKED for his help while saying they’ll let him worship Talos. He liberated their city THEN used him as a scapegoat when the Thalmor came knocking instead of having a degree of integrity. Plus in prison the man lost his father and literally had to smuggle out a letter to pay his respects. Skyrim turned it’s back on him and he still wants to give it its independence. Like y’all blame Ulfric for everything but both the Empire and Skyrim screwed him and the Civil War is justifiable because are you people seriously telling me that it’s completely fine having these random ass people coming around kidnapping people and killing them because people saying they’re worshipping someone? Are you saying it’s fine to let a king who won’t even defend his throne or his people be king? Are you really okay with an Empire who just enforces rules upon people without asking? I’m not saying everything Ulfric does is right, but goddamn the points y’all choose to pick on are asinine.

He basically pulled an old custom from it's grave so that he could have an explanation for what he did. If I killed the president, I'm not gonna become the next president, I'm gonna get the fucking death sentence. Murder is still a crime in Skyrim, Ulfric simply used an old custom to justify it.

Funny how you mention the kidnapping & killing, that stuff only happened AFTER Ulfric made his demands.
Think about it this way: The Dominion gave the Empire demands, the Empire SAID they'd agree to them, but behind the Dominion's back they ignored alot of the demands. People were still worshipping Talos across Skyrim & Cyrodiil. But because Ulfric is stubborn & can't think ahead, his demands caught the attention of the Dominion, now they've established an embassy in Skyrim, they send out patrols to hunt down Talos worshippers, and the Empire is under even more pressure from the Dominion....all because Ulfric couldn't keep his mouth shut. If he simply helped Markarth & let that be it, everybody would've been better off.
The "rule enforcer" Empire you see in Skyrim only enforces rules because Ulfric forced their hand. Before the Markarth Incident, The Empire gave Skyrim alot of leeway, but that wasn't enough for Ulfric, and he ended up making the situation even worse.

Yeetimus Prime The Nords are a prideful people, so can you really not understand their stubbornness? The Reachmen took over Markarth and the Empire wasn’t really solving the problem. Logically anyone would be upset if you set up a deal for someone for liberating a city which the Empire was unable to do then make you a scapegoat for the Thalmor who somehow conveniently found out about and used as an excuse to flex over the entire province. Honestly the real one to blame is the one who made Ulfric that deal. I mean I won’t say Ulfric wasn’t being stubborn and I won’t say his actions don’t have consequences, but at the same time it was an isolated event. That doesn’t mean they have the right to just accuse whoever they want of Talos worship. You can’t take the actions of one man to vilify the entire province. The Empire just folding and letting the Thalmor do what they want is exactly why he has support for the Civil War. Because the Empire who protected everyone’s independence just stop protecting its people. Yeah, they lost and they agreed to an agreement but that doesn’t mean you just let people act with impunity when in comes to slaughtering people whenever they want. The fault isn’t solely on Ulfric but on the people who made him that deal, but Ulfric being screwed by the Empire and by the people in Markarth led Skyrim to it’s current division.

I kind of want to see something on Isran or maybe Harkon. My idea for Isran is how he is an idiot for his unwillingness to bend. You, as the player, can become a vampire to enter the Soul Cairn. Instead of seeing how a vampire could have an advantage in vampire hunting (Who knows better on how to hunt a vampire than a vampire) he demands that you cure yourself before he will deal with you further. That alone, plus his unwillingness to trust Serana in the beginning, even though she brought a tool you need to stop the vampires and professed her desire to assist you, shows how blinded he is by his hatred of vampires. Harkon is blinded just as much, placing all his faith in a prophecy that, in the words of a Skyrim parody, "Blocking out the sun would kill all the plants, which would kill all the animals, which would kill all the humans, which would eventually kill all the vampires." Harkon sees only one way forward, and that is destruction.

@@notnice8 I would't say it was completly peaceful. Tensions araise when you mix different cultures in one spot. Don't like pesky humans filtring with females elfs, and humans probably don't like ugly elven food ect ect. Several instances migth had happen to reach to the nigth of tears. It also happens in todays real world. Search "Roof Koreans" and you see a battle that happens in LA between Black vs Asians. It was maddness.

Now I might not know all the details but didn't the elves in skyrim slaughter an entire city of Atmorans? You were saying that they were "homicidal maniacs" but how is it bad that they killed the elves after what they did? I mean that might as well have been a declaration of war against the Atmorans.

Security is generally terrible anywhere. Just like today, having police officers patrolling dosen't mean a serial killer can enter a house and kill someone.

@@eldarhighelfhealermiriella7653 Remember city was closed for dragon business , then opened and guards dismissed redguards there. Silver Hand has many characters whos not a Nord. Theyre basically foreign to the land and somehow they walked in Whiterun and attacked Jorvaskr , steal piece of Wuuthrad and killed the Harbinger? They probably came there with many numbers and i havent seen any dead guard body around. If they cant guard, resigning is a service too.

You didn't even look into the lore of the Companions did you? You do know that the Companions have let in none Nords for centuries before Kodlak's time. Read the book the Great Harbingers it even lists a High Elven Harbinger which I honestly think is a betrayal to the Legacy of the 500. Let's be real here, the Falmer attempted Genocide first, they failed, the Atmorans came back and wiped the absolute floor with them.
Here is a hot take, the only reason why people hate the Nords for these actions and their desire to have their own homeland ruled by them and for them is because they are white humans that look like Germanic/Nordic peoples.

Would it be fair to say that Skior was similar in a way, yet also the foil to Kodlack? The both were clearly a cut above the rest of the companions in most facets, yet while Kodlak was on essense a true Nord, devoted to Talos and tradition, Skior was his opposite. It's clear the companions would have taken a different path had Skior lived.

I don't really get why do you call Kodlak a genius. Yeah, he is a wise guy and thinks in a pretty rational way but none of this makes him a genius. I remember a slave-on-the-run khajit from Morrowind who was working as a guide for a hunter that tried to find him. He used that job for cover and to mislead hunter. So even that khajit was closer to being genius then Kodlak.
