That's true... I have learning disabilities that come with a lot of similar challenges as what Chris went through as a kid/teen, and my mom was a huge help in giving me advice for what to do, and how to deal with overwhelming situations. She also supported me in seeking professional help and getting on medication to deal with the stress. Good parents make a huge difference, whether that's in providing help, or making existing issues worse.
Previous child grew to hate her, ignored essentials to improving Chris's mental state when she had the chance, let Chris be raised by video games and cartoons only, laid around all day in her junkyard house while her some made a fool of himself.
The decision to change school districts to avoid special-ed was the worst thing Chris's parents could have done. Chris never really had a chance after that.
As someone on the spectrum myself, it honestly terrifies me how easily I could have ended up like Chris Chan to some degree had my parents not fought tooth and nail to give me the proper support I needed growing up. 😳
I don't think you have anything to worry about. Regardless of how bad your autism is it doesn't make you commit incest on your on mother. That's something entirely different. Some people are just sick.

@@lemonadelunacy3291 Very much agreed. Good parents really do make a world of difference in a child's life, neurotypical or no and I'm grateful for mine. As far as Bob and Barb's poor parenting is concerned, it comes down to the two of them being alcoholics and far too overprotective of Chris rather than any autistic tendencies on their part. After all, there are many parents on the spectrum that are just as capable of caring for their children as anyone.

This whole saga is like a decades long sitcom. There’s no hugging, no learning. Everything resets each episode, and there’s a colorful cast of memorable characters that pop in every now and then.
Let it sink in: At the Regency Mall, Chris received the name Christian and began this saga. At the Regency Inn, just across the street, Chris was arrested and ended this saga. Edit: Of course it didn't end the saga. He always comes back. And he's free.
The idea that Chris Chan is probably sitting in that room alone, is extremely scary. Especially knowing that his delusions known as “Sonichus” are sharing that room with him but only in his eyes. This is a hell I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
When it flashed back to a picture of Chris as a kid my heart broke, thinking of how differently things could have gone if only he'd had more capable parents and no internet connection.

Liquid Chris was the perfect troll in my opinion because he never did anything malicious to Chris-chan directly. He just did everything he did, but better. Which drove him insane to no end.
Fun fact, there's an episode of the Sonic Boom TV show, called "The Biggest Fan" that features a character named "Mark the Tapir", an obsessed fan, who's a not so subtle parody of Chris Chan. The writers denied basing it of of Chris, but there's a lot of very obvious references including dressing Sonic up to look like Sonichu, orange soda, and Sonic's arms.
I agree that Mark wasn't based on Chris-chan, but rather on the bad people in the fandom in general. Yes there are references to him like the color of the legs and fanta, but he is not the sole basis of the character.
Chris actually saw that episode and claimed to see no resemblance between him and Mike because he is "not crazy like that". Make of that what you will.
In my opinion, I think Fiona did the right thing leaking the phone call. The call would’ve been leaked no matter what anyway, and that psycho troll would have done awful things with the information. This was the best outcome, and it’s depressing.
As an autistic person myself, I feel this is a prime example of when you A) have parents that clearly don’t give a shit B) let the kid do whatever they want no matter how disruptive or fucked up.
It seemed that Chris’s parents more or less gave up on him after he left community college and hardly ever interacted with him unless he made things inconvenient for them.
You forgot C) instill in their kid a sense of unbridled entitlement, delusions of grandeur/specialness well beyond healthy self esteem and the message that your problems or mistakes are everyone’s fault and responsibility, except yours.
As Vidalion lightly put it, Chris's parents where unequipped to deal with him. Barb is the worst parent you could ask for and Bob was fighting a losing battle, try as he might. Both their perspective on Chris and how to go about his problems where outdated and due to horror stories during their youth, opted to keep Chris out of programs that otherwise could of made him a better person. They where clearly protective of Chris, but this only made things worse. I'd like to think Bob's age was his biggest limiting factor. He may have been homophobic and racist but he also was the only person trying to instill Chris with values. Chris misunderstood Bob's advice along with Bob doing anything to make Chris successful including boosting his ego (downplaying Autism and villainizing Asperger's clearly came from Bob to instill Chris that he was above other people) and to his credit, it worked. Barb on the other hand only created a monster. I'm sure she was why they left Chris to go drinking, her hoarding only set horrible standards for Chris and her mental stability was tied to her husband. Anything Bob could do to help Chris would only be ruined by the examples set by Barb. Honestly if they raised Chris closer to their prime around the 60's Chris would be a better individual as Bob was trying to set Chris up for functioning in a society that better fits an era long lost. He was clearly aware he wouldn't be there to guide Chris when he needed it. One of their fatal flaws, that being they had no idea how to deal with Chris's consumption of modern media and how absorbed Chris became with it can be tied to their advanced age. All this and more is why Chris is a fascinating human, people theorize the absolute worst modern society can produce and Chris is the living example, the exception.
What I feel people seem to be unable to grasp, is that Chris is definitely more developmentally disabled than seems to be recognized. His parents never wanted to acknowledge this, because back when they were young, being mentally disabled would make it extremely difficult to live life at all. Chris would never be able to live a normal life, but if he were able to get the support he needed, he might have been able to live a peaceful life grounded in reality.
For a few years now I've been saying this. Had he not been mainstreamed, and instead put in a special school and later a group home for developmentally disabled adults, it would have been a far more humane life for him. He could be playing with toys and helping out around the home, maybe providing assistance to people with worse disabilities and feeling good about making a difference to others while staying grounded with real relationships. It's cruel that a man with his mental limitations has been "abandoned" like this.
All Chris had to do was to stay off the Internet in order to live a more peaceful life, but his huge ego as well as his constant craving for attention kept bringing him back online again and again for more trolling.
I really wish Bob Chandler had the strength to permanently cut off internet access for Chris when things were starting to get out of hand. I truly believe had Chris gone near fully offline from 2008/09 to the time Bob passed away. That would have been just enough time for people to permanently lose interest in Chris and move on to the next lolcow of the month.

I’m also high functioning autistic, and I feel as if I’m a light mirror of Chris. We’re both sonic fanatics, love drawing, and get along more with women, but I still have many guy friends. But unlike him, I have a goal in life, and that’s not being a God, as I’m working to be a marine biologist.

I’m at the point where Robert died and Chris and Barb were in mourning, until Barb would get violently angry if Chris didn’t sleep in bed with her so that she may “call upon him”. Was this like foreshadowing in real life?
Chris-chan is the ultimate cautionary tale of what happens if you let the internet raise your kids, documentaries on him should be required viewing for new parents.

I'd say its more of what happens when an autistic individual is denied a proper support system at a time when they need it most. That and when you fail to establish proper social norms.
The picture of Chris-Chan in jail followed by the picture of him as a little boy locked in the closet was surprisingly powerful. The story went full circle. Overall, the saga of Chris-Chan is both horrifying and depressing. I felt sympathy for Chris-Chan for a long time until the incest raping. It can be argued where the blame lies for the events leading up to that, but Chris-Chan undeniably became a monster in the end.
Too bad he fucked up by believing that Chris Chan is actually trans even though he is faking it to get laid. Not to mention I WARNED him not to make that mistake but of course he didn’t listen.

Can we all appreciate Null for his attempts to help Chris, during all this? Of all the people involved in this mess, he tried more than anyone else to actually steer Chris in the right direction. I think it might have been because he was diagnosed in the 80s. They probably didn't have the greatest understanding of autism then. I agree that he is not 'high-functioning' at all, and any semblance of independence was snuffed out by his parents.
I've known about Chris Chan for nearly a decade now. I heard of all his sperging, the death of his dad, his toxic relationship with his mom, horrible living situation, and all the trolling he's been through. I knew the endgame for Chris was not going to be good, but I had no idea it was going to be that unbelievably dark... I'd really like to imagine the alternate reality where Chris was raised properly because I'd like to imagine how many of the world's problems that could have been avoided if parents just did their jobs the right way.

I dunno, I kinda don't. She helped created this monster. She also likes to play up illnesses for the camera to get more sympathy for more donations. She's a psycho narcissist, imo. She fought so hard to refuse help for Chris as a child which ultimately made him this way, on top of her never helping curb his behaviors as a mother. I feel bad for Null(however I spell it) he went from the villain to the repentant side hero after Chris’s house caught fire. He realized that what he was doing to Chris was really damaging and he tried to repair the damage he’d done and help Chris and keep him out of trouble. He was a better parent than Barb ever was.

Isabella Jenky is probably one of the most evil human beings that may have touched this saga. Not for the actions she participated, but for the pure and sheer will to take part on it. A sadistic individual at her core. Sometimes, i swear god. Humanity finds ways to push me into being misantropic more and more each day.

In all honesty, Chris Chan has always been an enigma to me. His sheer mental state and actions make me ponder about his well being and existence pretty regularly to be honest. There’s that slight bit of humanity when it comes to Chris where you feel bad for him, but then you remember how bad of a person he really is due to his parents and himself. Seeing Chris Chan’s life is like seeing a car crash and catch on fire that is full of murderers. You feel bad at first, but then… nothing. You just have to stare and watch at the total dumpster fire that is Chris Chan’s life.
Finally someone pronounced his sex correctly! Chris even admitted he changed his gender to complete love quest easily. Did I say he despises men and can't even stand looking at his own pickle- Err, I mean duck?
At the end of the day, I don't think this is Chris's fault. He's always been out of touch with reality and his parents are to blame for that. Things would be alot different if he had gotten proper treatment when he needed it the most. His lack of association with reality is probably his biggest downfall. Thus he is easily manipulated and gullible by the many people who want to take advantage of that. Even with the claims of incest have to be questioned despite being apparently true. It's hard not to put it past him. But it seems that people may very well have manipulated him into doing that, or saying that he did as he would have no clue as to what the implications would have been. At the end of the day, I see this as torment of a mentally ill individual and I'm pretty sure things would be better if the internet had not become a part of his life.
You know, you gotta feel bad for Chris. He's literally stuck in a world that he'll never get to understand because he is so disillusioned and detached from reality that he'll never get to feel genuine joy in anything. His parents, trolls, and so-called friends have stripped him of every bit of pride and self respect that he'll probably never get to recover and the world hates him for it because we're *forced* to. @Boa-Noah all fair points, and I dont have sympathy for the things he did, but I believe if he was brought up right in life by his parents by attending to his special needs appropriately, and if people didn't target him specifically just because it was easy and he didn't know better, he probably could have turned out significantly better as a person. I put the blame for who he is today on the people he was surrounded by. The guy has never won in his life because people were out to see him lose or didn't care enough to help him win. And when one single person said "He doesn't deserve that" it was way too late.

I agree! I've been consuming a good amount of Chris-Chan related content because I have no life, but this is by far the best I've found in giving a more true and unbiased account. I think it's helped to show some people that Chris wasn't JUST someone who did...what they did to their mother, but was also a victim of things as well.
The drawing of him alone in prison being a callback to him in the closet... It left me speechless. This man's life was treated as a comedy when it was the greatest tragedy in internet history.
I was there at Too Many Games 2018. I was able to meet Chris Chan, get a signature, and was given a small hawkeye figure (he was giving out these tiny avengers character things). It was a very strange moment for me. My friend likely still has the Sonic games he got signed by Chris Chan. I was not in the conference room picture but I was there at that event. Chris got to ask a question and his attempt at forming it in person was itself a unique thing to watch. I later saw Chris Chan in his curled up state but did not see him be removed from the event.
When I saw the trending topic "CHRIS CHAN DID WHAT" I looked him up thinking he was disgusting....but I made the worst mistake anyone can make... I went down the rabbit hole..
Having been following Chris for a couple years now, when the news broke we were all horrified but not particularly surprised It dropped during a lull in activity too so it was a lot out of seemingly nowhere
Of all the vids I have seen about Chris-Chan, this series by far the best. That last shot of Chris's drawing of being locked in a closet as a child, superimposed with the drawing of being imprisoned as an adult hit hard. Despite my disgust, I can't help but feel pity for Chris. You've done a great job.
These drawings were not by Chris. This is the only thing I found irritating about the otherwise great documentary: It was not made clear which drawings were by Chris and which were by 'Top Drawer Art' (see credits). Whenever the linework is clear and the backgrounds have repeating patterns (because they're done digitally, something Chris-Chan would apparently never do), it's not by Chris.
Another hilarious notion is that for the first time in his life, Chris ACTUALLY had a girl who was interested in him and wanted to be with him…. and he ignored her and shrugged her off to be with his mom and keep talking to Janke, the worst troll of them all. Chris was always his own worst enemy, not Clyde, Michael Snyder or MLW

This whole story is a grim reminder that attitudes toward mental illness, especially those held by law enforcement and the legal system, are still way off from where they should be. Nobody received justice here, not Chris, not his mom, and definitely not the trolls.
Yeah, it's some sad shit. _Some people just want to watch the world burn._ But I'm not worried about the trolls getting justice. They'll be living with themselves until the day they die and maybe they get some sense of control and meaning out of causing real harm to people, they will never know how it feels to be loved for who they are - it will always be fake and with hidden agendas. And to be fair, it's what they know, so it's an easy game for them and they'll probably never know what they're missing or care to view it as anything but a weakness and vulnerability to exploit, giving them a feeling of strength when people around them show integrity and sincerity, but as a sincere person with integrity whose life is only possible because people around me value me for who I am, I can tell you that everyone needs someone to trust and rely on every now and again and it's pretty fucking pathetic if the only way to get that is to have some dirt on everyone around to to force them into fake loyalty. And again, it gives them a sense of power to have that control over people, but they'll never be happily surprised by a spontaneous idea of someone who loves them - all ideas have to come from that one warped mind. Imagine how small your world would be if all that happens in your life is you controlling everything and everyone around you and everything out of your control is a threat to you. You know, honest people, honest criticisms, actual information. That's exactly what they need to keep out of their lives to maintain control and control is the only thing they have until they don't, or are inevitably stabbed in the back, or when someone has some dirt on them to change them from the abuser into the victim and no amount of honesty or sincerity will help them get out of that. They'll be stuck with their self imposed illusions forever. A prison for their mind. Chris at least can remember that when she fucked up, she didn't know better and when she did, she learned. She's convicted and I would have loved to have her live in the country where I live. Her sentence would've been changed to mental help. Punishing her for not knowing better and having no one to look after her and having tons of people taking advantage of her like a clown doesn't help anyone; it teaches nothing. All she needs is a handful of people to care enough to help her get on her feet and let her see herself for who she is. She'll see she is a good person, mistakes and all, deserving of a good life. In her cell she has more freedom than those trolls will ever have.
One of the things literally every video seems to not mention at all is the absolutely horrific child abuse that Chris's mom supposedly perpetrated, according to Chris's older half brother. If she did even a little of what he claims, there is no torture too extreme for her. And the detail he gives, I can't see all that being lies... She is truly a monster
Well, I disagree in some regards. What then makes of people like Chris-chan? Clearly, they cannot fit in society. We can't force them to get therapy either without breaking a few ethical issues, and ofc you agree that throwing them in an asylum is worse. What then? Better government programs? After that, send them out to the greater public? I believe that there are people who are too unique to conform and live within society, for better or for worse. For that reason, I do think Chris got justice in some way. Chris was removed, and placed somewhere where they can't harm themselves, and nobody can harm them. After all, what else can be done? There is no changing the trolls who got to him, and there is no changing Chris either.
I love how Chris established "Jenkins Jinkies" as being 13 years old...But then when the time comes to make the "Why I hate Chris Chan" video, he's clearly a grown man who sounds almost exactly like Chris. Right down to the constipated grunt at the end. He's like a cartoon character.
Now I'm picturing the court case being a back-and-forth of different videos involving Chris. The defense pulls out footage showing stuff that the trolls did to him, while the prosecution responds by showing him wishing death on people over minor slights and almost literally any interaction he has with women.
Seeing Chris in the beginning of this video is... weird. He's having an actual conversation where he isn't angry or the villain. It's like if everyone in his life actually gave him the time to go on his level and explain what he did is wrong I feel he could of been much better. But alas the trolls got to him first and fed his desires and then dropped him. Now he's become the monster he hated.

As someone who grew up with autism, Chris's story really triggers me in a special kind of way. I feel as if this could've happened to me because I was easily manipulated into stupid things and I obsessed with internet culture rather than the real world. I am so glad my parents made sure that I got involved in outdoor activities and limited my screen time; I'm especially glad that my parents did enroll me in special-ed even though I hated that decision at the time. Though Chris isn't a great person, I can't help but feel sorry for the abuse he endured.
He was horibly tortured. Here I am watching this, and Geno Samuel's documentary, but I don't condone the awful things that Chris was baited into doing. Thank goodness for you, having the structure, and guidance you do. Chris was pretty clueless to continue documenting every aspect of his life on the Internet.

I feel so bad for Jessi Slaughter.. she was telling the truth about Dahvie Vanity the entire time, and while she was being relentlessly trolled for coming out about it, he was abusing other girls. She was a compulsive liar but she was also a victim, and those trolls were absolutely tormenting her.
I don't feel bad for any of these fucks. The internet is human nature amplified. You all know or don't know what you're getting into. Regardless, you assume all risk knowing or not, when you log on. Get stronger and smarter or get absolutely chewed up.

Early on Chris was just a lonely guy with severe developmental disability, he later become more of a horrible person. Definitely wrong what they did and just made him even worse. The others were just evil people who got off on tormenting a mentally handicapped guy
A horrible person who may not have turned out so horrible if he had gotten the developmental help he needed as a child, much less if a gaggle of Internet neckbeards hadn't made it their life's mission to completely ruin his very perception of reality beyond repair.
I'm the same age as Chris. A few months older, actually. My grandparents are the same age as Chris' father. I cannot imagine my grandparents, raising a child, at that age. They'd do exactly what Bob and Barb did. Allow TV and Video Games, to babysit/raise the child. That's the issue.
I'm ten years younger than Chris, and sure my upbringing probably contributed to me not having much of a chance, but I at least an capable of work and doing activities I enjoy. (Such as martial arts) I'm a daydreaming nerd who also enjoys video games, but Chris was a lost cause right from the beginning. I'm just glad I never turned out like my parents, who are also incompetent morons. It's one of the reasons why I've chosen not to have kids.
My mum and I have roughly the same age gap that Chris has with his mother (my mum is thirteen years younger than Barbara, I'm ten years younger than Chris) and, to add to the similarities, I also have autism (and other debilitating, fun, hereditary stuff). But my mum is a good mother, always worried about me, disciplined me when I was being an idiot, pushed me to be independent and to be a functioning member of society, and she made it while being a single mother and without knowledge of autism (I was diagnosed in my late twenties). I can't say I'm the most functional of humans (I know I'm not), and my multiple illnesses don't help, but I can confidently say that the problem doesn't lie with the age gap, but with the fact that Chris'parents should have never had kids.
There was an entire generation of people missing from that little family. Barb and Bob should've raised the person who birthed Chris. THAT parent might not have been so unbelievably out of touch, not leaving Chris ultimately entirely defenseless.
This should be a cautionary tale told to parents with autistic children, if you fail them and shelter them long enough eventually they will turn out at best psychologically damaged and at worst a monster
It's a cautionary tell of " Why to wear a condom ", "Raise your children right", and "Diagnosis as early as possible". Barbara is somewhat the culprit all along in the situation as the step brother mentions " She was awful ".

I finally got through the whole documentary after a few days. The drawing of Chris Chan in jail transitioning into Chris Chan locked in the closet as a kid gave me the feels.
I honestly hope all those trolls got karma hitting them hard for doing all this to a mentally challenged person. You have to be a special kind of pathetic to find humor and invest time in a such vulnerable and easily manipulated victim. It shouldn't even be called trolling, cause there is a difference between making fun and joking about someone, to be directly malicious wanting to cause harm and almost ruining Chris's life, putting him and his mom in danger. The "Idea Guys" should have faced jailtime for literally committing blackmail and extortion aimed to harm a mentally challenged person.
Yeah, it's one thing to just spam porn art of his characters to get a rise out of him. That can easily be ignored (even if he didn't). It's quite another to escalate it to personally contacting him and everyone around him to blackmail him, threaten him, lie to him, and screw with his life. Then again, they mostly started doing it because the writing on the wall heavily implied that if he went about his life as he was, he would have tried to violate someone. Maybe they thought they were stalling him, or warning others to stay away from him.
This story has just evil people written all over it. Like Jesus Christ, I get the internet is the internet, but there are some legitimate demons out there. Nor defending Christine's actions but with no grip of reality, it takes an evil person to do trolling like this. It's not even trolling, it's straight harassment to a mentally ill person.

I came here was because of Neptunia. Some Neptunia fans hated that guy and i had to go through an extensive research on this until i came across this. One of my absolute favorite parts of his Saga is where he goes undercover and tries to infiltrate the trolls and they let him in, knowing full well who he was, and then demanded he make a video talking shit about himself and he did it with a poor disguise lmao
I dispute that the incident where his babysitter stuck him in a dark room actually happened. He had a habit of rewriting history. I think his parents also had a habit of doing this. Chris had verbal problems due to being autistic. I can totally imagine his parents blaming this on a fabricated incident. They had limited misunderstanding of his condition and seemed ashamed of it, so it's easy to imagine them coming up with a story and Chris internalising it.
There is something so poethically ironic in Null, the de facto leader of the trolling community, taking the reins of Chris' life for him, giving him a job/house/responsabilities, only for Chris to throw all of that out the window

Having watched an embarrassing amount of Chris Chan vids, I've gotta say that this is definitely one of the best (second only to the Geno Samuel series imo) in terms of the sheer amount of history it covers, the tone and the new footage that gives interesting/horrifying insight into Chris' mental state. I went to the same school as Chris Chan, though I'm a bit younger. My first job was a fast food restaurant, and I used to see Chris Chan monthly. I also used to see him at the Sheetz gas station and Food Lion near my house at the time. It was surreal because I was standing next to this person I knew virtually everything about, but nobody else knew, and I never said anything because I didn't want to get involved. Thank you for putting this together. This was very interesting, and I hope Chris Chan is finally getting the help they were denied for so long.

That's what makes this saga so tragic. If Chris's parents did some actual parenting instead of letting pop culture media raise him while giving him the support he needed during his school days instead of being in denial of his special needs, he probably would have turned out okay.

I've personally tested this on world-class neurologists, like Orrin Devinsky, after specifically telling them what I was about to do, and they couldn't tell the difference. Chris may very well believe that they're the Goddess of a console system that doesn't exist... for days at a time, but not 24/7. The only thing that they're 24/7 on is their horniness. Neurotypicals *consistently* believe that everything we say is 100% sincere, because of Hollywood Autism, where we all have superpowers and see mathematical equations in the air, while simultaneously thinking that autism = stupid and our every whim must be humored. Chris is *incredibly* selective in his delusions. Idea Guys and Isabella tell him he's got superpowers and that Jesus banged the Virgin Mary, he's completely down for that and truthfully answers anything they think to ask. Null tells him how he can put in the barest amount of effort and build up real friendships with real people, and Chris constantly lies to him and treats him like an idiot, thinking that Null would somehow not notice Chris stealing money from his mother's account. Chris went to college. They were able to handle mortgage payments. They can feed and clothe themselves. They can link multiple full complete sentences to describe a complete concept, while being distracted by road noise and the excitement/stress of a road trip, in a way that a neurotypical can easily understand. Unless Chris's neurologist shows up, being able to diagnose him with stupid isn't in anyone's wheelhouse. If you watch the extra footage of Chris playing Tetris, they speak normally and sneak in any insult they can, then immediately change the pitch of their voice and not look directly at anyone, when someone seems to notice.

However, as they grow up, they learn how to deal with such situations in a mature and responsible manner. Chris never learned how to do that because he lacks the emotional maturity to do so. As a result, he just kept retreating deeper and deeper into his fantasies to the point where he cannot escape, and does not want to.
Dude this series is so good and its interesting and upsetting, BUT I remeber in high school we had a boy named "snake boy" that would hiss at ppl and cure them in snake speech. Everyone (my self included) would try to get cursed or toss change and watch him run after it... I had totally forgotten about this and I feel like crap now. I dont understand people like this, during highschool, you're no longer a kid, you're a literal teen, young teen at the very least, capable of actually think twice about something. Even if teens didn't have as much as foresight as adults. Many of us "know" something is wrong but dont truly understand the full situation or impact. An example you even said you saw a kid get bullied and couldn't do anything. BUT that's never true. You are ALWAYS capable of doing something. Go get a teacher, get other students to speak out, tell your parents, principal, befriend the kids, etc. Sadly tho when you are a kid you can't see things all the way through and usually blinded by hormones and other peer pressures. I'm almost 30 now and it makes me happy seeing that's is finally not cool to smoke cigarettes or bully ppl. Lots more awareness about bullies and mental health. That's true... I have learning disabilities that come with a lot of similar challenges as what Chris went through as a kid/teen, and my mom was a huge help in giving me advice for what to do, and how to deal with overwhelming situations. She also supported me in seeking professional help and getting on medication to deal with the stress. Good parents make a huge difference, whether that's in providing help, or making existing issues worse.

Fun fact, there's an episode of the Sonic Boom TV show, called "The Biggest Fan" that features a character named "Mark the Tapir", an obsessed fan, who's a not so subtle parody of Chris Chan. The writers denied basing it of of Chris, but there's a lot of very obvious references including dressing Sonic up to look like Sonichu, orange soda, and Sonic's arms.

In my opinion, I think Fiona did the right thing leaking the phone call. The call would’ve been leaked no matter what anyway, and that psycho troll would have done awful things with the information. This was the best outcome, and it’s depressing.

As Vidalion lightly put it, Chris's parents where unequipped to deal with him. Barb is the worst parent you could ask for and Bob was fighting a losing battle, try as he might. Both their perspective on Chris and how to go about his problems where outdated and due to horror stories during their youth, opted to keep Chris out of programs that otherwise could of made him a better person. They where clearly protective of Chris, but this only made things worse.
I'd like to think Bob's age was his biggest limiting factor. He may have been homophobic and racist but he also was the only person trying to instill Chris with values. Chris misunderstood Bob's advice along with Bob doing anything to make Chris successful including boosting his ego (downplaying Autism and villainizing Asperger's clearly came from Bob to instill Chris that he was above other people) and to his credit, it worked. Barb on the other hand only created a monster. I'm sure she was why they left Chris to go drinking, her hoarding only set horrible standards for Chris and her mental stability was tied to her husband. Anything Bob could do to help Chris would only be ruined by the examples set by Barb.
Honestly if they raised Chris closer to their prime around the 60's Chris would be a better individual as Bob was trying to set Chris up for functioning in a society that better fits an era long lost. He was clearly aware he wouldn't be there to guide Chris when he needed it. One of their fatal flaws, that being they had no idea how to deal with Chris's consumption of modern media and how absorbed Chris became with it can be tied to their advanced age. All this and more is why Chris is a fascinating human, people theorize the absolute worst modern society can produce and Chris is the living example, the exception.

What I feel people seem to be unable to grasp, is that Chris is definitely more developmentally disabled than seems to be recognized. His parents never wanted to acknowledge this, because back when they were young, being mentally disabled would make it extremely difficult to live life at all. Chris would never be able to live a normal life, but if he were able to get the support he needed, he might have been able to live a peaceful life grounded in reality.

For a few years now I've been saying this. Had he not been mainstreamed, and instead put in a special school and later a group home for developmentally disabled adults, it would have been a far more humane life for him. He could be playing with toys and helping out around the home, maybe providing assistance to people with worse disabilities and feeling good about making a difference to others while staying grounded with real relationships. It's cruel that a man with his mental limitations has been "abandoned" like this.

The picture of Chris-Chan in jail followed by the picture of him as a little boy locked in the closet was surprisingly powerful. The story went full circle. Overall, the saga of Chris-Chan is both horrifying and depressing. I felt sympathy for Chris-Chan for a long time until the incest raping. It can be argued where the blame lies for the events leading up to that, but Chris-Chan undeniably became a monster in the end.
Too bad he fucked up by believing that Chris Chan is actually trans even though he is faking it to get laid. Not to mention I WARNED him not to make that mistake but of course he didn’t listen.

Sadly, autism, or at least what we now lump together and call “autism,” can get MUCH more severe than CWC. It’s severity varies hugely.
I think it might have been because he was diagnosed in the 80s. They probably didn't have the greatest understanding of autism then. I agree that he is not 'high-functioning' at all, and any semblance of independence was snuffed out by his parents.
I've known about Chris Chan for nearly a decade now. I heard of all his sperging, the death of his dad, his toxic relationship with his mom, horrible living situation, and all the trolling he's been through. I knew the endgame for Chris was not going to be good, but I had no idea it was going to be that unbelievably dark... I'd really like to imagine the alternate reality where Chris was raised properly because I'd like to imagine how many of the world's problems that could have been avoided if parents just did their jobs the right way.

Seeing Chris Chan’s life is like seeing a car crash and catch on fire that is full of murderers. You feel bad at first, but then… nothing. At the end of the day, I don't think this is Chris's fault. He's always been out of touch with reality and his parents are to blame for that. Things would be alot different if he had gotten proper treatment when he needed it the most.
His lack of association with reality is probably his biggest downfall. Thus he is easily manipulated and gullible by the many people who want to take advantage of that.
Even with the claims of incest have to be questioned despite being apparently true. It's hard not to put it past him. But it seems that people may very well have manipulated him into doing that, or saying that he did as he would have no clue as to what the implications would have been.
At the end of the day, I see this as torment of a mentally ill individual and I'm pretty sure things would be better if the internet had not become a part of his life.
You know, you gotta feel bad for Chris. He's literally stuck in a world that he'll never get to understand because he is so disillusioned and detached from reality that he'll never get to feel genuine joy in anything. I agree! I've been consuming a good amount of Chris-Chan related content because I have no life, but this is by far the best I've found in giving a more true and unbiased account. I think it's helped to show some people that Chris wasn't JUST someone who did...what they did to their mother, but was also a victim of things as well.

I was there at Too Many Games 2018. I was able to meet Chris Chan, get a signature, and was given a small hawkeye figure (he was giving out these tiny avengers character things). It was a very strange moment for me. My friend likely still has the Sonic games he got signed by Chris Chan. I was not in the conference room picture but I was there at that event. Chris got to ask a question and his attempt at forming it in person was itself a unique thing to watch. I later saw Chris Chan in his curled up state but did not see him be removed from the event.

These drawings were not by Chris. This is the only thing I found irritating about the otherwise great documentary: It was not made clear which drawings were by Chris and which were by 'Top Drawer Art' (see credits). Whenever the linework is clear and the backgrounds have repeating patterns (because they're done digitally, something Chris-Chan would apparently never do), it's not by Chris.

And again, it gives them a sense of power to have that control over people, but they'll never be happily surprised by a spontaneous idea of someone who loves them - all ideas have to come from that one warped mind. Imagine how small your world would be if all that happens in your life is you controlling everything and everyone around you and everything out of your control is a threat to you. You know, honest people, honest criticisms, actual information. That's exactly what they need to keep out of their lives to maintain control and control is the only thing they have until they don't, or are inevitably stabbed in the back, or when someone has some dirt on them to change them from the abuser into the victim and no amount of honesty or sincerity will help them get out of that. They'll be stuck with their self imposed illusions forever. A prison for their mind.
Chris at least can remember that when she fucked up, she didn't know better and when she did, she learned. She's convicted and I would have loved to have her live in the country where I live. Her sentence would've been changed to mental help. Punishing her for not knowing better and having no one to look after her and having tons of people taking advantage of her like a clown doesn't help anyone; it teaches nothing. All she needs is a handful of people to care enough to help her get on her feet and let her see herself for who she is. She'll see she is a good person, mistakes and all, deserving of a good life. In her cell she has more freedom than those trolls will ever have.
One of the things literally every video seems to not mention at all is the absolutely horrific child abuse that Chris's mom supposedly perpetrated, according to Chris's older half brother. If she did even a little of what he claims, there is no torture too extreme for her. And the detail he gives, I can't see all that being lies... She is truly a monster

Well, I disagree in some regards. What then makes of people like Chris-chan? Clearly, they cannot fit in society. We can't force them to get therapy either without breaking a few ethical issues, and ofc you agree that throwing them in an asylum is worse. What then? Better government programs? After that, send them out to the greater public? I believe that there are people who are too unique to conform and live within society, for better or for worse.
For that reason, I do think Chris got justice in some way. Chris was removed, and placed somewhere where they can't harm themselves, and nobody can harm them. After all, what else can be done? There is no changing the trolls who got to him, and there is no changing Chris either.

As someone who grew up with autism, Chris's story really triggers me in a special kind of way. I feel as if this could've happened to me because I was easily manipulated into stupid things and I obsessed with internet culture rather than the real world. I am so glad my parents made sure that I got involved in outdoor activities and limited my screen time; I'm especially glad that my parents did enroll me in special-ed even though I hated that decision at the time. Though Chris isn't a great person, I can't help but feel sorry for the abuse he endured.

I'm the same age as Chris. A few months older, actually. My grandparents are the same age as Chris' father. I cannot imagine my grandparents, raising a child, at that age. They'd do exactly what Bob and Barb did. Allow TV and Video Games, to babysit/raise the child. That's the issue.
I'm ten years younger than Chris, and sure my upbringing probably contributed to me not having much of a chance, but I at least an capable of work and doing activities I enjoy. (Such as martial arts) I'm a daydreaming nerd who also enjoys video games, but Chris was a lost cause right from the beginning. I'm just glad I never turned out like my parents, who are also incompetent morons. It's one of the reasons why I've chosen not to have kids.
My mum and I have roughly the same age gap that Chris has with his mother (my mum is thirteen years younger than Barbara, I'm ten years younger than Chris) and, to add to the similarities, I also have autism (and other debilitating, fun, hereditary stuff).
But my mum is a good mother, always worried about me, disciplined me when I was being an idiot, pushed me to be independent and to be a functioning member of society, and she made it while being a single mother and without knowledge of autism (I was diagnosed in my late twenties).
I can't say I'm the most functional of humans (I know I'm not), and my multiple illnesses don't help, but I can confidently say that the problem doesn't lie with the age gap, but with the fact that Chris'parents should have never had kids.
There was an entire generation of people missing from that little family. Barb and Bob should've raised the person who birthed Chris. THAT parent might not have been so unbelievably out of touch, not leaving Chris ultimately entirely defenseless.
My god, I'd never fully grasped how disconnected from reality Chris was until about 40 seconds into the video.
This should be a cautionary tale told to parents with autistic children, if you fail them and shelter them long enough eventually they will turn out at best psychologically damaged and at worst a monster

They had limited misunderstanding of his condition and seemed ashamed of it, so it's easy to imagine them coming up with a story and Chris internalising it.

Having watched an embarrassing amount of Chris Chan vids, I've gotta say that this is definitely one of the best (second only to the Geno Samuel series imo) in terms of the sheer amount of history it covers, the tone and the new footage that gives interesting/horrifying insight into Chris' mental state.
There's so much sad and awful stuff here, I can't really say anything that hasn't been said before, but I just wanted to appreciate that snippet of the Lars call, one of the few moments in this whole extremely depressing saga that genuinely makes me laugh every time (and is also weirdly kinda wholesome, at least by twisted trolling standards?). shiiiiit
Plus, I like the cute, Chris - style art illustrating key moments and the voice acting, that was a nice touch (and occasionally adding some humor).

Liquid Chris was the Anti-hero, Null was the true switch-Hero, Isabella was the penultimate villain, only topped by Bluespike.
I will always go back to the Idea Guys for the main reason of Chris’ last drop of mental stability. As funny as the other trolls have been, the others had set boundaries and knew better than to extort a mentally unstable person, BlueSpike being an exception. If it wasn’t for the Idea Guys, I truly believe that some of the things that occurred after them would not have happened. (That might just be retrospective wishful thinking)

Those comments from Chris at the end about “healing his mother several times”, right after the previously revealed context, sent chills down my spine. The reveal you’re standing right next to a monster who is alluding to his crimes with a smile is downright frightening.
And the laughter after that guy asked if she could heal his ache....like it was funny to Chris that he didn't get it. Surreal.

Seeing him sit there and talk about "healing," Barb, makes my skin crawl. Because for those not in the know, on the matter, "healing" in this context, is Chris committing SA against his mother.
In my personal opinion, if Chris Chan was put in the foster system, I believe he world have a much better life

No. Foster is awful. He would have been badly damaged and had an crappy life. The only meaningful difference would be that he wouldn't have had access to funds to buy lots of stuff and wouldn't have great access to the internet. Well, at least then he wouldn't be bullies by internet trolls, only real bullies.

I think the biggest thing to take away from this situation is how horrible people will treat others with mental disabilities. Several pages and forums were created to bully, incite, and judge Chris Chan which further exasperated the problems this guy was dealing with. Unfortunately Chris Chan didn't have the support to make the best choices in life and we all got a front row ticket to his down fall. Take care of each other on this planet we are stuck here whether we like it or not.
The world isn't a nice place. No one owes anyone anything and that includes being nice. Chris brought on a lot of these problems himself.

I went to the same school as Chris Chan, though I'm a bit younger. My first job was a fast food restaurant, and I used to see Chris Chan monthly. I also used to see him at the Sheetz gas station and Food Lion near my house at the time. It was surreal because I was standing next to this person I knew virtually everything about, but nobody else knew, and I never said anything because I didn't want to get involved.
Thank you for putting this together. This was very interesting, and I hope Chris Chan is finally getting the help they were denied for so long.

His parents didn't give him the help, resources, and structure he needed.
This is a very very horrible case of bad decisions coming back to haunt them.
This all could’ve been avoided if Chris’s parents just supervised him…
That's what makes this saga so tragic. If Chris's parents did some actual parenting instead of letting pop culture media raise him while giving him the support he needed during his school days instead of being in denial of his special needs, he probably would have turned out okay.

I've personally tested this on world-class neurologists, like Orrin Devinsky, after specifically telling them what I was about to do, and they couldn't tell the difference. Chris may very well believe that they're the Goddess of a console system that doesn't exist... for days at a time, but not 24/7. The only thing that they're 24/7 on is their horniness.
Neurotypicals *consistently* believe that everything we say is 100% sincere, because of Hollywood Autism, where we all have superpowers and see mathematical equations in the air, while simultaneously thinking that autism = stupid and our every whim must be humored.
Chris is *incredibly* selective in his delusions. Idea Guys and Isabella tell him he's got superpowers and that Jesus banged the Virgin Mary, he's completely down for that and truthfully answers anything they think to ask. Null tells him how he can put in the barest amount of effort and build up real friendships with real people, and Chris constantly lies to him and treats him like an idiot, thinking that Null would somehow not notice Chris stealing money from his mother's account.
Chris went to college. They were able to handle mortgage payments. They can feed and clothe themselves. They can link multiple full complete sentences to describe a complete concept, while being distracted by road noise and the excitement/stress of a road trip, in a way that a neurotypical can easily understand. Unless Chris's neurologist shows up, being able to diagnose him with stupid isn't in anyone's wheelhouse. If you watch the extra footage of Chris playing Tetris, they speak normally and sneak in any insult they can, then immediately change the pitch of their voice and not look directly at anyone, when someone seems to notice.
@@averysspookshowspectacular6205 Children have a habit of retreating into fantasy worlds to cope with stressful and uncomfortable situations. Not going to lie, I did that myself when I was young.
However, as they grow up, they learn how to deal with such situations in a mature and responsible manner.
Chris never learned how to do that because he lacks the emotional maturity to do so. As a result, he just kept retreating deeper and deeper into his fantasies to the point where he cannot escape, and does not want to.

Dude this series is so good and its interesting and upsetting, BUT I remeber in high school we had a boy named "snake boy" that would hiss at ppl and cure them in snake speech. Everyone (my self included) would try to get cursed or toss change and watch him run after it... I had totally forgotten about this and I feel like crap now. Especially after being so upset at the trolls in this story. Tilhis has been a introspective and humbling series man, thank you
I feel like this is a story everyone has at some point, there would always be that one ‘weird kid’ at school and even if you didn’t take part in some of the messing with them, you still end up feeling somewhat complicit in it just by letting it happen, seeing stuff like Cwc makes you realise how they just needed help and just a safe space
Similar story here, except ours was a wolf boy that would growl and bark at people, and howl during school events. We'd try and get some reaction out of them in high school. Man remembering that makes me feel like shit.
I dont understand people like this, during highschool, you're no longer a kid, you're a literal teen, young teen at the very least, capable of actually think twice about something. Even if teens didn't have as much as foresight as adults.
When I was in highschool I watch bunch if students bullying autistic students a lot, but I was too afraid to speak up against them, I could only watch.
@@jeanneann3545 I understand the anger, hell I feel angry at myself. Only thing I can say it yes I was a teen capable of thinking twice, however I (and many others) don't. Many of us "know" something is wrong but dont truly understand the full situation or impact.
An example you even said you saw a kid get bullied and couldn't do anything. BUT that's never true. You are ALWAYS capable of doing something. Go get a teacher, get other students to speak out, tell your parents, principal, befriend the kids, etc. Sadly tho when you are a kid you can't see things all the way through and usually blinded by hormones and other peer pressures.
I'm almost 30 now and it makes me happy seeing that's is finally not cool to smoke cigarettes or bully ppl. Lots more awareness about bullies and mental health. I hope it means we are moving in the right direction.

Chris was simply a man of delusion, he could've been something, he could've been as Bob described: A Hero Of Autism
But instead, he was corrupted, he was cruelly taken and embraced by the worst of the internet and because of that, it led him down a path of misery and tragedy, instead of becoming a hero he became... a villain, an example of some of the worst aspects of autism even, he became a reminder to all of humanity of what not to do when it comes to people like this, his saga ended, his life has ended and now all we can do is hope for one thing...
