My only critique would be, that if anything, I think your underselling just how much of a destructive force these consultancy firms have been and continue to be. Correlation may not always be causation however it is very clear that the involvement of SBI, and their ilk, have directly led to the closer of several studios and counting. Their level of control seems to very from project to project but make no mistake their influence is great and terrible indeed.

In the case of inclusion, your prejudices can influence your intentions to be inclusive. For example, with Zarya from Overwatch, when the character was announced, some women complained about her looking somewhat masculine, which reinforced the stereotype of strong and cold Russian women. In 2022, her skin was changed because of a pro-Russian symbol (you know... war in Ukraine). Is like we see on media the typical hair style in strong woman, semi bald head. Or the black men hair style.
Honestly one of the reasons so many of us despise them is that for a long time games have seemed bland and even boring, and now we discover the reason was because this stupid unnecessary company has been messing with the narrative, script and appearance of the game

actually, comparing us gamers with little children is a valid approach. Talking from my own perspective as a gamer, I want to flee the 'adult' world, full of restrictions, complex rules, responsibilities and real violence and war. I want to flee from that world, in a virtual world of my liking. I'm like a child that pulls the blanket over his head to disclose reality for a while, because it's intimidating and scary. And I'm more than 50 years old. I'd like to congratulate SBI and the so called gaming journalists to bring discrimination in this industry to the attention of a very big audience, but not in the way they intended, but because they ruin gaming studios. They wanted to include every minority into every step of the creative process AND in the stories told by the games. But they failed miserably, because they de-prioritized talent and ignored the reality that EVERYBODY is a little bit of racist or excluding. In my case, when it comes to more intimate relations, I have clear preferences of gender. That doesn't mean I hate men in general. I just don't want to have sex with them. I don't even want to ponder the idea. But I'm perfectly fine with gay men or transgender or whatever with anything else but sex. My friends know that and don't bother me with it although I'm relatively sure that some of them are gay. By shoving "gender" and "race" into everyone's face, SBI triggers everyone's little bit of reservation against whatever they are uncomfortable with. That is the exact opposite of what they intended, I guess. By prioritizing inclusion over talent, they weaken their customers' and their own company's skills. SBI ignores the fact, that every gamer selects games mostly by genre, not by race or gender of the characters in the game. Gamers with cat allergy even play cats as main character, for heaven's sake!

My gripe is them trying to remove the steam group which informs consumers about games affiliated with SBI. I can choose to not rent or rent a game based on a character's nose if I bloody want to and a group for those who have similar tastes isn't anything illegal or hateful, it's our money and being better informed so as to not regret renting games ...so removing a group that shares information and opinions feels like an attempt to limit consumer choice and control narratives, which is unfair. Gamers deserve the freedom to discuss, critique, and make informed decisions on licenses without interference or censorship.
These people aren't hippies, they are ideologues and they are the ones who seek to conform all games and art to their DEI standard. Taking over all the western consultancy firms and game studios to generate only DEI content and trying to localize foreign games and art into line with DEI ideology before letting Western customers see them is what is fascist. Fighting games (also didnt knew you are married with TopHatGaming) ever since the world warrios, tried to respect to some extends cultural representations depending on their countries. There's not just T. Hawk but also Chief Thunder (Killer Instinct), Wolf Hawkfield (Virtua Fighter) and Nightwolf (Mortal Kombat) for Native American representations for example in this case. It takes time and research, as well as feedback to make a character that anyone can relate to. Hence why they're memorable. When I see the work of those DEI consultant team, it's always for a political standpoint with a reflexion of themselves on the writing or development process. It's simply laziness

I have been following this since the start, and this account of what’s actually happening/happened is the most accurate I’ve seen yet. I’m not naive, there are bad actors still today, but there are far more who aren’t. and to be tarred with the same brush as racist, misogynistic, bigoted, transphobic homophobes is truly insulting. I grew up in the 1970’s and trust me, society has progressed massively in a positive way, in fact when I stumbled across this mess I was blown away by the view these activists hold of the world.
This was so thoroughly well detailed and thought out in her delivery. I agree with all her points and thank you for so putting it so concisely. There’s no problem with diversity, so long as it makes narrative sense and all of these companies need to justify their existence, but in doing so end up hurting their cause and kind of become the very thing that they are meant to rally against. Replying to an IGN article of Feb. 2 that argued that Kevin Conroy's Batman was wasted in ‘Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’, one of the writers of that game Amy-Leigh Shaw, that is also a SBI's employee (as it was half of the writing team of that shitshow), in pure SBI's "crybully" style posted that it was "callous" to use Kevin Conroy's memory "to stoke hatred" (yeah. Criticizing is "hatred". SBI's work can't be subjected to the slightest hint of critic). The youtuber Endymion replied in a clip: “I’m surprised I’m sitting here agreeing with a modern gaming journalism article, but it’s true. He was wasted. The entire game was wasted.” “Of course, Amy tries to take the moral high ground here, but the truth is that the damage is done, and what her and the team over at Sweet Baby has done to Suicide Squad, not to mention other games, like Spider-Man 2 and more. You know it's a bad sign when the CEO of a consultancy firm that offers "sensitivity reading" fails to do sensitivity reading of their own professional talk. The simple truth of the matter is someone made a list of games that were tied to a specific company and didn't like them. If the games were good, no one would care, the steam user wouldn't need to be cancelled, and the company would just continue on probably unaware that a single specific person disliked them. But that's not what happened. They made an entire mountain range out of a molehill because they knew deep down, that they are ruining everything they touch. Because they operate under the belief and practice that it's easier to drag others through the mud than it is to produce products of quality that raise the standard rather than worsen it.

The more trust they get from a game studio, the worse the results for the studio. CFOs have either noticed, or need replacing ASAP.
Makes sense why the story and writing of spider man 2 was way worse then the first game. Probably the most disappointing game I ever played. The boss fights and venom sequence were the only good parts.

My only critique would be, that if anything, I think your underselling just how much of a destructive force these consultancy firms have been and continue to be. Talking from my own perspective as a gamer, I want to flee the 'adult' world, full of restrictions, complex rules, responsibilities and real violence and war. I want to flee from that world, in a virtual world of my liking. I'm like a child that pulls the blanket over his head to disclose reality for a while, because it's intimidating and scary. And I'm more than 50 years old.
I'd like to congratulate SBI and the so called gaming journalists to bring discrimination in this industry to the attention of a very big audience, but not in the way they intended, but because they ruin gaming studios. They wanted to include every minority into every step of the creative process AND in the stories told by the games. But they failed miserably, because they de-prioritized talent and ignored the reality that EVERYBODY is a little bit of racist or excluding. In my case, when it comes to more intimate relations, I have clear preferences of gender. That doesn't mean I hate men in general. I just don't want to have sex with them. I don't even want to ponder the idea. But I'm perfectly fine with gay men or transgender or whatever with anything else but sex. My friends know that and don't bother me with it although I'm relatively sure that some of them are gay.
By shoving "gender" and "race" into everyone's face, SBI triggers everyone's little bit of reservation against whatever they are uncomfortable with. That is the exact opposite of what they intended, I guess. By prioritizing inclusion over talent, they weaken their customers' and their own company's skills.
SBI ignores the fact, that every gamer selects games mostly by genre, not by race or gender of the characters in the game. Gamers with cat allergy even play cats as main character, for heaven's sake!

My gripe is them trying to remove the steam group which informs consumers about games affiliated with SBI. I can choose to not rent or rent a game based on a character's nose if I bloody want to and a group for those who have similar tastes isn't anything illegal or hateful, it's our money and being better informed so as to not regret renting games ...so removing a group that shares information and opinions feels like an attempt to limit consumer choice and control narratives, which is unfair. Gamers deserve the freedom to discuss, critique, and make informed decisions on licenses without interference or censorship.

The only reason I gave Angrboda a pass was because they made the realms technically be of other "dimensions" outside of the Nordic region. Fighting games (also didnt knew you are married with TopHatGaming) ever since the world warrios, tried to respect to some extends cultural representations depending on their countries. There's not just T. Hawk but also Chief Thunder (Killer Instinct), Wolf Hawkfield (Virtua Fighter) and Nightwolf (Mortal Kombat) for Native American representations for example in this case. It takes time and research, as well as feedback to make a character that anyone can relate to. Hence why they're memorable.
When I see the work of those DEI consultant team, it's always for a political standpoint with a reflexion of themselves on the writing or development process. It's simply laziness

There’s no problem with diversity, so long as it makes narrative sense and all of these companies need to justify their existence, but in doing so end up hurting their cause and kind of become the very thing that they are meant to rally against. We need more journalists out there that have their ethics intact than rented out.
The simple truth of the matter is someone made a list of games that were tied to a specific company and didn't like them.
If the games were good, no one would care, the steam user wouldn't need to be cancelled, and the company would just continue on probably unaware that a single specific person disliked them.
But that's not what happened.
They made an entire mountain range out of a molehill because they knew deep down, that they are ruining everything they touch.
Because they operate under the belief and practice that it's easier to drag others through the mud than it is to produce products of quality that raise the standard rather than worsen it.

These gaming journalists & gaming consultants are cut from the same cloth. They are hypocritical, childish, spiteful & generally tend to hate just about everything that actual gamers like. Unfortunately for them, most ordinary people can just look up what they are saying to find out whether it's true or false. These gaming consultants should not be involved in video games at all. Especially not the creative side of things. As many of them have previously mentioned either in interviews or their personal social media pages, they don't really care about what gamers or fans want. They also don't even really care about video games in general. So they won't really be able to make anything substantial.

You're "sure" companies are working with Sweet Baby Inc for the money? Almost every single game they have helped with did not make back its budget. And they were working with some golden goose IPs. They have now put TWO whole game studios out of business, both of which had major publisher support, and STILL couldn't overcome the curse of garbage writing. I, for one, am not so "sure" that companies are salivating over these narrative "development" companies simply because of the mad cash.
What could prove your theory is if they all start getting dumped from projects posthaste, because THAT would be following the money. After trying something new that clearly didn't work, if you love money, you will change tack. SBI got lucky with God of War: Ragnarok, mostly because they didn't do much. The more trust they get from a game studio, the worse the results for the studio. CFOs have either noticed, or need replacing ASAP.
Makes sense why the story and writing of spider man 2 was way worse then the first game. Probably the most disappointing game I ever played. The boss fights and venom sequence were the only good parts.
First time I've seen a company not like free advertisements, shows they know that what they do is not in the best interests of the game and only pushing their ideologies.
