    I find that you can’t really respond to them, not because there are actual contradictions in the Bible, but those insisting on them refuse to take the time to listen to you or actually work out what they got wrong. There are several websites that go through “contradictions” that are easy to Google. Lack of information was never the issue.

      #1 You see a child drowning in a shallow pool and notice a person just watching that is able to save the child with no risk to themselves but is not, is that persons non action moral?
      #2 If you go to save the child, the man tells you to stop as he was told it was for the greater good, but he does not know what that is, do you continue to save the child?
      #3 Is it an act of justice to punish innocent people for the crimes of others?
      #4 If you were able to stop it and knew a person was about to grape a child would you stop it?
      #5 Would you consider a parent who put their kids in a room with a poison fruit and told the kids not to eat it but then also put the best con artist in the room with the children knowing the con artist will get the kids to eat the fruit and the parent does nothing to stop it a good parent?

      There are actually multiple corruptions of the text in the bible. The lady perhaps isnt aware as she should be or shes been mislead herself. They will try to mitigate the corruptions by saying they are immaterial or dont effect a doctrine but theres several late additions and corruptions especially in the KJV that do effect doctrine

    Reminds me of something I recently read in JC Ryle's Expository Thoughts on Mark: "The plain truth is that we ought to be very slow to give credit to the unconverted man's professed reasons for not serving Christ. We may be tolerably sure that when he says, "I cannot," the real meaning of his heart is "I will not." The ruin of thousands is simply this, that they deal dishonestly with their own souls. They allege pretended difficulties as the cause of their not serving Christ, while in reality they "love darkness rather than light," and have no honest desire to change."

    I personally do not like to use the word "inerrant" to describe the Bible. There are apparent contradictions, almost invariably involving minor matters of detail (did Jesus tell His disciples to take a staff or not to take a staff? Depends on which Gospel your read) which so far have defied explanation. But I think that in the Bible we have an accurate record of the verbal revelation which God imparted to inspired prophets and apostles. So the Bible is, in a very real sense, the Word of God.

    • @Window4503
      @Window4503 Рік тому +2

      Then that just introduces a slippery slope. If God’s written word isn’t inerrant, then what about his spoken word? What is it about writing that suddenly reduces God’s accuracy?
      I was going to share a link from Answers in Genesis to explain that staff “contradiction”, but my comment disappeared so you’ll have to Google it. A lot of apparent discrepancies just come down to Greek or Hebrew nuances, historical/cultural facts, and basic context. The one you mentioned falls into the first category.

    • @robertwheeler1158
      @robertwheeler1158 Рік тому +1

      @@Window4503 You have to take into consideration the way the Bible itself describes the process of revelation. God makes a revelation to inspired prophets and apostles by various means -- visions, dreams, sometimes directly, sometimes with the Holy Spirit communicating directly with the spirit of the apostle or prophet. Then the human prophet or apostle would commit to writing the revelation that he had received. In some cases (e.g. Jeremiah, Paul) he would dictate it to an amanuensis. The problem is that the way the doctrine of inerrancy is usually phrased, it was the written document that was inerrant. And those of us who have had experience in writing and publishing know that you can a clear idea in your mind of what you want to say, but that doesn't mean that you won't misspell a word or accidently leave something out.
      And you did make a valid observation, that because several languages are involved, that may account for some of the discrepancies. The New Testament writers would often quote from the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament, which sometimes differs from standard Masoretic Hebrew text. When Jesus made the comment about whether or not to carry a staff, He was probably speaking in Aramaic. Depending on how His listeners heard it, it could have come across as either "and not a staff" or "except a staff." The words in Hebrew, at least, would have sounded very similar. But you are still left with a contradiction in the Greek text we have in our New Testaments.

Many of the same original Christian churches mentioned in the Bible by Paul in his letters are the same Orthodox churches still open and practicing in those same exact ancient biblical locations (as in, still literally at the same address the whole time) today. So yes, it teaches the same true (and original) gospel that it has for 2000 years beginning with Christ’s apostles who were directly taught by Christ himself. This church came before Rome (Roman Catholicism) and before all other denominations that were a product of the Reformation. And has been preserved ever since by the cultures it was founded in, for example, Greek culture (one of the original languages and cultures of the Bible and of the gospels).
      A good book on this is called “The Religion of the Apostles”, by Stephen DeYoung, about Orthodox Christianity (and the role of Christ’s apostles in founding it) in the first century after Christ died. Lots of good historical info.

    So no contradictions, just "variants". Like Kellyanne Conway's "alternative facts"? Some pretty big "variants". For instance, how MANY people were resurrected at the Resurrection? One? (Mark, Luke, John)....or many (Matthew)? Or more basically, what DAY and HOUR was the Crucifixion? Mark's "variant" or John's "variant"?

    • @ManoverSuperman
      @ManoverSuperman Рік тому +1

      When she’s talking about variants, she’s talking about manuscript copies of a single text. So the argument there, at least for the NT (the Tanakh is a much, much more complicated story as far as manuscripts go) is that the texts are 99% preserved accurately, and all the variants are incredibly minor and don’t effect the meaning of the text.
      In terms of contradictions, some are much stronger than others. Your examples happen to be weaker ones. The fact that three gospels don’t mention a detail where one does is not necessarily a contradiction. A true contradiction can only be such where a detail precludes another’s possibility altogether. Your second example is better than your first, admittedly. But even there, we do what we always do with historical documents: calculate the probability of each alternative on various grounds. Yes, Christians desperately need to bite the bullet and reject Scriptural innerancy, and embrace infallibilitism instead.
      I could point out a number of other real contradictions in the text for you and would be glad to discuss them and how I personally account for them if you would like. I don’t find them as challenges to my faith but rather as a source of excitement. ✝️

    To anyone reading this. There are several material corruptions in the Bible especially the KJV. Acts 15:24 KJV is a fine example of a material corruption. The gentiles were taught to obey the Law of Moses. The KJV says they were not. We know its a corruption because James makes Paul do the nazarite vow because he was accused of apostasy against Moses so we know that they upheld the law and were zelous for it. They would be relying on Isaiah 56 where it says the Gentile(sojourner) is to Honor the Sabbath and obey the commandments. If this woman cant see the condradictions in the bible she needs to get back to bible study. God bless her heart. Who cares what Bart ehrman has to say. Hes not a christian so can we trust his opinion about Christianity? Paul condradict the Teachings of Jesus several sveral times. James and Paul condradict one another. Revelations condradicts Pauls epistles. The Law is still in effect ladies and gentlemen. You can guarantee it. The bible doesnt have any condradictions. Thats rich. I do not reject Christ's teaching by contradictions in the Bible. I use the teachings of Jesus to reject parts of the Bible being true. First, we must decipher with our Teacher, the Holy Spirit, which is the Word, not the Bible which is of the world. Second, he said, "Judge not by appearance but judge by righteous judgement."
    So what has happened on earth is not what is true. The history of the Bible, including the Resurrection, has no meaning for me. These bodies don't see truth, They see appearances. We must use our spiritual minds, the Christ mind, to know truth, not the faculties of the body. And then we see truly being born again instead of thinking we are flesh.
