    I just received my first pocket watch yesterday as my Christmas gift. Elgin serial number 15422183. Looks like a B.W. Raymond grade 372 model 15 made in 1911. This little time piece is fascinating! I've got so much to learn about horology. Thanks for your video!

      Very happy you liked the video, I do really like the B W Raymonds, they are very solid time pieces for sure. That is an outstanding first pocket watch, congratulations!

    Excellent video and very informative! You do have a nice watch, the 24hr. Dial makes it stand out and love the up/down Wind indicator, it looks much better in the gold case.

    The case was not always part of the Watch it was added to the movement separately, the BW Raymond was the high end movement

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  9 місяців тому +1

      Correct because back in the day, the movement and the cases would be purchased separately . Thanks for watching.

      @TahirAli-ty1hg I don't think they made any of the watches I shown in the 1960s. This is an 18 size wind indicator and I believe they were done making these in the late teens early 20s.

    I have a 17 jewel adjusted pocket watch. The maker is northern express? Couldn’t find that name. It is adjusted. I’m it’s a railroad watch. The case is marked Philadelphia pa. Who is northern express? The serial number is 7 digit. Starting with a 1. What can you tell me about it. Thank you.

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  2 місяці тому +1

      I would need to see a picture for sure, but I believe the pocket watch is a Swiss pocket watch and wouldn't be searchable by serial number on pocket watch database.

    I liked the episode but I only have 1 pocket watch so I didn’t subscribe. I liked the way you explained things and you are easy on the eyes. I guess you could improve by telling viewers what your channel is about; I found you on a search so I don’t know anything about you or your channel. Best wishes ❤️

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  5 місяців тому +1

      Absolutely, first thing to do is look at the movement and find the serial number. Then go to pocketwatch data base and it will tell you all about it.

      Great thank you. I was able to find all that info. But another question I do have for you is how do I find out the value of it? I’m looking to sell it, I don’t even know if it actually has any value. On that website it said it’s a grade 299 I’m not sure if that helps you with anything or not.

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  8 місяців тому +3

      That is a difficult thing to do. Judging a watch without seeing it is impossible. Everything about the value is condition of everything. Not just the movement.

    Hi I’m looking at a Waltham (with the up and down winding indicator) and the up and dn indicator needle is pointing up where no numbers are is that ok? The 0-24 graph is as you know along the bottom of the circumference while this needle is point up into no where … does that needle travel 360 degrees or only from 0 to 24 ?? I’m looking to buy it but I’m worried the indicator might be broke

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  10 місяців тому +1

      They can go a little over or a little under. If you are looking to buy, just have them send you a video or pictures after it has fully wound down and ask to have them show you it is engaged at some point in a different position. They can break or jam in a way.

    I have a Elgin pocket watch and i dont know nothing about the watch. I want to sell It. Im un Spain but i dont want to have a bad sell. How i should do?

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  3 місяці тому +1

      You should do a little homework on it. Figure out the serial number look it up, then go to ebay or a similar site and see what the current value is. Im not sure who to recommend to sell to in Spain. However, if you sell to a collector you will usually get more. If you sell to a resell shop, you will not get as much, as they need to make money on it as well. Hope that helps.

      EBay isn't a good place for determining value of anything. People often think more highly of their stuff than the market does, so they post it there, hoping to get a small fortune for it, only to discover that there's no interest in it at that price.

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  Місяць тому +1

      @lewis2553 ebay is actually one of the best places to determine price. But only if you look at the right data. The key is looking at the sold items not the current items.
      Curious where you go to determine market value.

    • @lewis2553
      @lewis2553 Місяць тому +1

      @@JoeZaccardelli Well, you're probably right, there. I didn't think about that. I never went there to look. But, even then, amateurs such as myself, might have overpaid for some of those items. Still, I guess there is a good supply of amateurs out there.!😅

    • @JoeZaccardelli
      @JoeZaccardelli  Місяць тому +2

      @lewis2553 not trying to be right...if there is a better way I'm all for it!! On my videos you see the price in green, that shows what it sold for. If the numbers are black either it didn't sell or it is currently for sale. And yes I have over paid for many as well, this is why I'm trying to help in a small way.

    Reminds me quite a bit of the beautiful Up/Down BW Raymond I got from a gentlemen online 🫡😜. Love it with the porcelain dial, and that coin silver case. Oh and BTW, nice copy of Ninja Gaiden on the shelf! Joe Z. reviews vintage video games and collectibles soon maybe? 😂😁

      LOL, you really need to be careful dealing with people online..... you never know!!😆😆 I'm definitely a sucker for silver cases. Ninja Gaiden was definitely one of my favorite games on the nes..... One of the actual games I picked up with the watchmaker lot I reviewed, if you can believe that!
