Well you're quite lucky because I have subscribed to your channel today! I've been looking to collect pocket watches but I don't know where to start. I used to purchase quartz movement ones from my local Walmart a few years ago but they contninuously quit working after only a few weeks which is disappointing to me but I will keep trying to find one to start my journey with this hobby thanks to your video

I am a American pocket watch collector. I do my own restores and repairs on my collection. Which can be a monumental task the older they get.
I use Pocket watch Database here in Canada to get info I need.
Not sure where to go for European pocket watches as I only have a few.
What a great hobby to be in.
I have an Hampden Model 3 from 1884 that still keeps great time.
They dont make them like this anymore.
    Solid heavy pocket watch..
    Cheers

Hello, I am a PW collector for more than 30 years.I can tell you that there isn't such a thing as a standard glass size. So if you want a fitting crystal, you need a specialist who fits in the properly shaped glass (there are different forms, like domed, lentille, straight, angeled...) in the proper size (we are talking of 1/100 mm tolerances). TEven if you measure your lunette with a micrometric gauge, it will not fit properly. You need to have the case front present to fit it in.

Thank you very much, Michael. The collection certainly has grown quite a lot. The canister you see in the background is for hand cream and chapstick, but thanks for the concern anyhow.

@UCOIlCxXxRMXbIFAUF_vOH4A actually, i was refering to the many black hair that - judging your profile-pic and what i've seen in recent videos - belonged on your head befor they felt out ;) Also Beiersdorf is a famous manufacturer for Skincare - i knew that before ;)
As for the pocket watches: you actually gave me an idea - since a surgery in 08, i can't wear a wrist-watch anymore (many different pains, aches and other issues in the hand as soon i put a watch on)... now i'm thinking of getting me a pocket-watch (so the watch-pocket in the jeans actually gets used and i don't always have to get the cellphone out for checking the time)...
EDIT: as you can see in this post, freakin' YT messes around with the identifyers again..... can't they leave their freakin' fingers off the system?! i seriously start to hate youtube.

@@milesknightestrada3286 hey Miles - you seriously put an idea in my head; any advice on what to check before buying a pocketwatch? (since a surgery, i can't wear normal wristband-watches anymore - but a pocketwatch could do the trick... q is: what is important to select a daily driver?

Aw man, you can't clip the claws! The clawsssss! This is, btw, one Kool Klock Kollection. I used to have one of those train ones. I was twirling that boy like some dandy and I accidentally sent it flying straight into the sidewalk. End of that little fella.

Your experience sounds similar to mine with the Waltham. One of the many reasons I hated my time in the theatre. As for "the claws", it started to become difficult to do things with them, and I found it more functional without them. Don't worry, after a time, they may make a return.
