Wow, what an amazing historical find. A time capsule of clippings and written letters in a book. But such a sad thing to see, so carelessly thrown to the side. We remember our ancestors, we honor them. That is a sad thing indeed.

We would not be here without them fighting to survive.

All of our pain and suffering are victories and our losses are right there in the black and white

So much history just given away. At least it ended up in your hands and not a landfill

It was meant to be in your hands because you are a respector of ancestors and the keepers of knowledge.

What should we do if our ancestors were really shitty people. I know much of my family ( dead and living ) were pretty racist ( my part of the family has distanced themselves from the rest of the family ). I feel like I shouldn’t honor those ancestors. What should I do?

You have to remember a few things:
Humanity as it exists today is 300,000 years old. That means that there are over 7,000 generations at this point in history. What's the likelihood that ALL of those people were completely despicable? Not likely in the slightest. What's the likelihood that none of those people would have enjoyed being around you? Slim to none. Don't write them off. The chances are that they probably care about you more than you'll ever know in this life.
Also keep in mind that death is a transition. No one is truly the same when they go through that transition. Especially not over time. Do you really think in all of those years your ancestors wouldn't have had time to think about their lives?
And just one more thing. It is crucial to keep in mind that we are our ancestors walking. They live on in us. Whatever we do, they do too. So if you improve yourself, that is them improving themselves. If your ancestors ever did wrong, you are their apology.
