Brake Caliper Painting DIY (and how to p*ss of all the Porsche Purists for only $65)

- Yes I know, they're not the carbon ceramic brakes. NO, I'm not pretending to have the PCCBs. I just love how the yellow brake calipers look against my graphite blue metallic Porsche 911's exterior paint color. It's absolutely breathtaking!
After 7 years of owning these cars and this being my 5th Porsche 911... I've come to the firm realization and belief that if you want to mod your car - go ahead and mod your car. It's your car - do whatever the happy living f*ck you want with it and to hell with what anyone else thinks. I even couldn't care what people think about resale value in today's culture. There is buyer for every car. In fact, there are dozens of buyers for every Porsche 911 - no matter the spec, the trim or what the previous owner may have done with the mods. Ok, maybe you lose a few hundred dollars here or there - seriously, who gives a Castlemaine XXXX? Not me. Enjoy your Porsches people, I'm absolutely freaking loving mine.

Amazing!! 🤩 bring back the stripes!!! More stripes, more nasty carbon! See how supportive I am ❤
You’re a good lad. 😘
Great to see you posting again. Just as I am finally looking for my first 911. Love the subtle touches you do and hope to follow suite with mine. First mod will be your sticker I have kept safe for last 2 years ready for my purchase. More content please. All the best Jason
That’s so cool Jason!! Good luck with your search. Let me know how it goes!!
The yellow with graphite blue is fire!🔥
Thanks amigo!
Nicely done M8!! It's been a while, thx for sharing and the work you have put into these vids!!
Glad you like them! Cheers!
As you know I love racing yellow….❤️👍. Nice job James you are a true perfectionist 👍
Thank you so much!
Awesome LOOK, James!
Thank you!!
Great video, and nothing wrong with pissing off the purists... make it your own.
Amen brother!
Dude that looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!
that color pops... love it.
Thank you!
The calipers came out great and really look great with the yellow decal and other yellow accents on your porsche. As a fellow porsche owner with PCCBs I give you my permission to keep them 🤣
Bah! Thanks!! haha. I'm going to print this off and stick it in on the inside of my windshield. 🤣
Looks great James. Glad you took the stripe off. Possible a bit toooo much? Car looks epic and the wheels set it off perfectly.
Thanks 👍
Love a yellow calliper.
Cheers!
Another great video james! Keep em coming👌
Cheers Andy!
Super job and color combination!
Thank you! Cheers!
Outstanding! They do look great.
Thank you! Cheers!
The colour is exactly what the car needed to tie in the door stickers too, really like it. I can’t remember if you did the stickers yourself, if so was it difficult? I have some grey ones for my black 991 but I’m terrified of screwing it up!
Oh no i chickened out. I got a shop to do the door decals for me. I tried to do a door set once and royally screwed them up. 😂
@@AutoAmateur I get that completely, I’m thinking that I’ll do the same!
I really like the wheels. Very cool oem design
Cheers!
I’m being charged £420 to paint my 981 gloss black as it’s similar colour to your 911 but it has faded over time, still considering yellow which i like but not period correct.
I have to admit, there is a lot to say about keeping your 911 period correct but then look at some of the colors and trim styles Singer add to their 964s, or Gunther Werks add to their 993s. If you like it, do it.
Very nice video thanks for all the ideas. BTW where did you get the lifter?
Thanks! I got my scissor lift from Toolots.com - it's their 120v 3000lb capacity mid-rise.
@@AutoAmateur Thanks and keep on the good job you are doing
I’m all for personalization. I think I’m going to do mine orange with a matching steering wheel stripe. I don’t care if anyone else likes it lol. Basalt black metallic with deviated brown interior. Cheers 🍻
NIIIIIIICE!! Do it!
Very nice! What kind of lift do you have? I want one.
I'm actually about to change out my lift. I currently have a mid-rise scissor lift from Toolots.com with a 3000lb capacity. I'm replacing it with a 2-post Titan lift with a 9000lb load capacity.
Just crossed over into Outlaw territory 🤣
Hahahah. Maybe not quite that far, but I'm not opposed to going there.
What? Two videos in one weekend? Jesus!
Gotta catch up with you, Mr Tearaway!
@@AutoAmateur get over here in two weekends if you like?
You previously added a ducktail to your 991. Do you think you'll do it to the 991.2. If no, why not?
As much as I loved the Moshammer ducktail on my 991.1, I'm not going to add the same one or similar to my 991.2. After having a ducktail on my 991.1 and my 996, and the GT3 / Aerokit wing on my 997 I'm really enjoying the traditional silhouette with this current 911. To be honest, I have been looking at factory GT3 wings... but no, I think (!) I'm sticking to what I have right now... probably :)
Hey my name is Mark I have a 991.1 cab would love to have some of the brake caliper sticker in black
Send your mailing address to contact@autoamateur.com - cheers!
The calipers look great!
Did you consider the clear coat after applying the Porsche letters?
Yes I did! I didn't show it in the video, but I applied several layers of high temperature clear coat on top of the letters.
I don't think yellow pisses off anyone. Sure they are fake PCCB, but no one will know and it's not like you painted them blue or purple. Looks good
You would be surprised about some of the hate mail that comes with have non-PCCB yellow brakes!
You’re going to have to wear a yellow vest and yellow sunglasses while driving it.
HA! Now there's an idea...
Hi, Nice wheels, what are they please.
RS Spyder wheels.
How many cans did you need to do 4 coats on all 4 calipers?
Just the one can of paint that comes with the kit! They give you more than enough paint to get the job done. So for $65 for the standard colors, or even $125 for a custom matched color, it's an absolutely phenomenal mod.
I would have put the clear coat over the "Porsche" letters to protect them also...
True, I did do that actually. Good tip for everyone though. Nice one!
I went to the site, looks like the price has doubled since you posted two months ago. And I'm not sure how you can do four coats over four days with 3.5 oz of paint. Please share. Thanks much...
The paint goes on remarkably well and they give you more than enough to do several coats. I've done several of these jobs now and I've never come close to running out of paint.
@@AutoAmateur By the way, they have since dropped the price. I bought off of discount tire site for 59. Will do when the heat breaks.
Exactly. If you cannot afford PCCBs open up the wallet and you'll also have far less brake dust.
I. D. G. A. F. 😂😂😂
Oh mate it's true. Something snapped inside me recently, I just no longer have any f***s to give. 😂😂😂
Nice job, James, what is the colour of your car?... thanks 🦘
Thanks! It's graphite blue metallic. It was one of the special color options in the .2 line up.
It looks very similar to the new 992.2 colour Vanadium grey metallic, that is being offered in the Australian market...👌🦘
