Worker Cooperatives: A Flexible Development Format

The International Cooperative Research Group (ICRG), the research and learning arm of the U.S. Overseas Cooperative Development Council (OCDC), recently held a session that highlighted worker cooperatives. This session, held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 9:00-10:30 am EST, was co-hosted by OCDC ICRG, Equal Exchange, Uganda HealthPartners Cooperative (UHPC), Global Communities and their partner, Democracy at Work Institute (DAWI). The session explored the worker cooperative model and three different examples of formation and transition: from a cooperative that is just starting operations (Uganda), to those more experienced (Kenya), and a well-established successful US-based worker cooperative with partners across Central and South America.
