    A former employer owned an M20, and I got to fly in it a couple of times. Mooneys just seem to be more refined, and boy did it move along, considering it was a four place with only 200hp. What I find interesting is how you basically have to “push” it down to the runway on landing, because of its efficiency. If I had the budget, I would love to own one.

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  4 роки тому +1

      You're right. Mooney's are very aerodynamic. When landing, you manage approach speeds and let the energy bleed so it settles without trying to force it.

    Alternate air is not for extra air inside. That s another source of air for the engine in case the primary source is clogged unless this is what you wanted to say.

    • @StefBelgium
      @StefBelgium 3 роки тому +1

      @@aerolife1646 sure, here you are 19:30
      This might be indeed air for the cockpit but I really doubt. Most complex aircrafts I know of that have alternate air is a second source of air for the engine that bypasses the air filter in case it is clogged with ice or debris...etc Obviously, needs to be used only if primary air source causes the engine to run rough due to lack of air because the air is not filtered using the alternate air and could absorb fod or debris, dust...etc
      During engine runnup, the alternate air needs to be tested when the engine is running at 1800 or 2000 RPM, whatever the RPM needed for the runnup. Activating the alternate air should cause a drop of RPM and sligth decrease of manifold pressure.
      If this is really that, do not train buyer saying it is extra air for the cockpit because they could use it in the worse moment (during taxi) and could damage the engine. As usually stated, please refer to the POH 😁

    • @jbw9999
      @jbw9999 Рік тому

      @@StefBelgium Yes it's an alternate air source for the engine if there's a blockage of some sort (ice/dirt/mechanical). But I think it should open automatically in such instances, so you shouldn't need to do so manually.

    You know I got to admit.... I like your airplane videos better than anybody else's.. You're not shoving your knowledge into people's faces but at the same time it becomes very obvious that you do know what you're talking about..... Experience shows... .. however I do have one complaint.... You need to tell us what the prices of the airplanes are because most people are going to be put off by the fact that if they don't see the price they're going to automatically assume that that person wants a hell of a lot of money for that plane
    .... For myself if I don't see a price I don't deal with it....... It's got to do with wasted time.

      Thank you for your comment and feedback. I appreciate you watching our videos and glad you like them. Most of our videos are reviews of planes and as such we do not list the price as the video is not about selling the plane and will stay on our channel for years to come. When a plane is available for sale we have a listing on our website and a link in the video description for people to go there. The price is usually right at the top of the page so people can see it as soon as they go to our site.

    It's nice having Turbo but only if your flying at high altitude but that's slot of maintenance costs during annuals. What's the average cost of this Mooney? I just had my annual on my C model and I can almost bet that the cost I paid is probably half to what it would cost for this Mooney. I love the Mooney don't get me wrong, I would pick Mooney over Piper or Beech any day of the week and twice on Sunday but owning this Mooney a person almost needs to have money coming out their ears compared to my C model.

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  3 роки тому

      It costs more to operate and maintain Turbo airplanes compared to normally aspirated. In airplanes, it is always a trade-off. But these models are better designed. They don't need a mid-time top overhaul like most others. Also, automatic wastegate help to get the best out of the turbo.

    The best Mooney ever is the M20R Ovation. Long Body. More room. TKS. Speedbrakes. O2. Faster than the turbo models to 11K. No turbo maintenance. 190 KTAS if you want the speed and fuel burn. 155 KTAS on 11 GPH if you have the time or the winds.

    Isnt this really a 252 not a 262 as the title says? My understanding is the 262 has the larger TSIO 540 Continental Engine? The 252 upgrades the M20k with intercooler and auto wastegate and optionally the addition of the TKS

    • @aerolife1646
      @aerolife1646  4 роки тому

    • @pdspartner1
      @pdspartner1 4 роки тому +1

      A 262 is a converted 231 with the TSIO-360-MB engine. The STC was obtained by ModWorks in FL which allowed the MB engine to be installed into the 231. This is not a factory 252 which is why it is called a 262 (a converted aircraft). The Mooney with a Continental TSIO 550 was called a Rocket (aptly named)!
