@@KirstyPartridgeArt mam if we are making realistic lip with charcoal it is important to shade with paint brushes because I have seen your tutorial video of making lip with charcoal in that video you have shaded with paint brush only.. Thank you mama, please reply..
Oh thank goodness, someone made a video about this. I'm in an art rut, since I'm in school and looking for a job I don't have much energy left for drawing, but I still want to improve. But I don't have time to surf the internet for five hours like I used to.
You‘re the one who got me into realistic drawing. I was always interested in drawing, but I kept watching people draw different styles, like anime and cartoon stuff, so I tried doing that as well. I also tried doing digital art because I saw a bunch of other people doing it. But one of your videos popped up in my recommended section, I watched it, and I started to draw realistic.(which turned out way better than all of my attempts of other styles)So I drew my first portrait, it was pretty decent, but as you said in this video, most people are scared to go to dark, and even though I‘m only using graphite pencils, I was too, and my eyes were to large. So now I‘m working on my third portrait since I first subscribed to you, and I‘m extremely happy to have found my new love for realistic drawing. Thank you.
I'm so happy I got you into drawing realism in graphite and I'm glad your enjoying it. Sometimes you need to experiment different styles to find which one suits you 😀
You inspired me to start drawing. I initially just wanted to learn some basics because I wanted to illustrate my childrens book myself. I was going to just make simple cartoon illustrations, but the book is based on my son, so I also needed some tips on realism to make it look like him, and I came across some of your videos. I ended up throwing out all the illustraions I had made and make the whole thing a lot more realistic and really learn how to do that. I have looked at other artists as well and tried their ways, but I keep going back to your videos, and everything I have learned that actually works come from you. I really enjoy the drawing part now and I draw hours every day instead of that just being something I have to do for the book. You inspired me to do that, so thank you!
You’re truly amazing, thank you for always sharing your knowledge with us without fearing to tell everyone that mistakes are essential and hard work is required in making art, because some people tend to make others believe that drawing is easy and can be done in a short time, you’re honesty and your genuine desire to help others makes you the best artist for me. I wish that I could be a great artist and a lovely person like you are.
Thank you for replying, it feels surreal to get a reply from a youtuber, especially because I know your busy with your other projects so I am truly grateful. I’ll be looking forward to your upcoming videos!
Thank you Kirsty, your teaching style is excellent. Not only are you a good teacher, but you have the skills to back it up. Im not a bad pencil drawer, but there is always room for improvement. Im fortunate in that I have an honest critic, and I am always very happy to hear her say "yes its coming on ok, BUT...." Thanks for your modest and honest videos, you are a true blessing to the world of pencil drawing.
So good artist! So detailed! You encouraged me to start realistic style in my art. I'm not that good but with you I think I'll get little by little better. So thanks for that!😌
Thanks for this video kirsty, your videos have helped me improve my realism tremendously. I appreciate that you still put out great free content for those of us who are not Patrion supporters YET, I do plan to do so soon as I get some steady income because you are an excellent teacher.
As always, Thank you very much. You are so realistic - not only in your skill of drawing, but also in your teaching of those skills. Our mindset is definitely to be considered as we grow, and I like the way you identify our inner person which is at the heart of our development of skills. Thank you.

Yes, practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes perfect. My BD said that almost daily, for the exact same reason. A lot of your pieces of advice are applicable to many different practices: sports, other arts, even just in school
I really do agree with your hair problem. Before I didn't even dare to think about drawing any profile picture by drawing a face looking straight foreward because it would mean that it had to be very symmetrical, and I wasn't good at it at all. I would struggle hours upon hours just to draw the outline of a face as symmetric is it actually was. So as time went by, I just couldn't stand being afraid of drawing symmetric pieces anymore, and therefore started practicing a lot more. Even though it was pure torture at beginning of the preocess, I improved despite it, and now, I actually enjoy drawing symmetric faces, hands, eyes, hairstyles and etc.
Wow this is what I always tell my kids Practice makes Better Always love your drawing . I have issues with values too, still need lots of practice I would love to be able to draw as good as you, thank you for sharing your tips.
Love this video! Thank you! I am my biggest critic & feel quite daunted at how much I want to improve. It’s great to see how much YOU have improved over 3 years!!! I only draw for my own pleasure, but want to be as good as you! Thanks for the motivation Kirsty.....keep them coming xx

You know, I think when it comes to drawing realistically and really paying attention to what you're doing, time flies by really fast, and it doesn't even phase you that it's been a few hours when it only really feels like it's been a few minutes. Like for me, I started a portrait today, sketching it out and shading one eye and part of the nose took me around 2 and a half to 3 hours when it really did only feel like ten minutes. I think for a lot of people, that's what's so daunting about realistic drawing is the time it takes to do it well, but honestly, at least this is how it is for me, the time doesn't even matter.
I so enjoy your work. I am learning so much from you and am on Patreon. I would like to see a tutorial on portraits/art done in charcoal only as it requires simple supplies......I have watched your other vids on charcoal and am fascinated with this. Just a suggestion though, as I enjoy all your art tutorials!!
Great tips Kirsty, I'm not an artist, I'm a software engineer, but this pieces of advice apply to my work Absolutely perfect , it's just what I needed, I'm going through a time that I need to level up my "art" as well. ;) XOXO
I worked as an information security forensic analyst, and whenever possible, employed interns. Their first day I told every one of them that I would give them a secret to success. It is four words, I'd tell them remember these words always, and they will serve you well. The words are: "I can be wrong." Belief in ones self is great however, understanding that you have limits is key to exceeding them. For you to understand that at your age is a great advantage to you. To exceed ones own limits you have to acknowledge that they are there so that you can learn how to overcome them.
The jaw lines and face proportions are definitely better in the 2018 version - and the hair. However, I do like the 2015 as well as it is not so dark. But I can't really tell what is right as I haven't seen the original reference. Anyway, you are indeed a drawing wizard, and again your tips were great - thanks 👍👌☺️
I've got a good technique to get better! Pick out one part of the drawing that you need to work on, and draw that part out separately from everything else, so you get a feel on how to draw that in the real drawing! Like the eyes, nose, mouth, etc.
Hey Kirsty, thank you for your tips! When I draw skin I try to go darker, sometimes I go too dark I try erasing it but it leaves those white 'stains'. How do I prevent that and how do I make sure my skin isn't too dark?
If everybody would learn what you just said about criticism as your 2nd tip… the world would be a far better place. The rest of your tips were great too. Thank you.
With the 2015 version to me it looks like one of the biggest flaws was the shape of the nose and a few other mistakes followed suit. I always begin a face with the nose and constantly compare my drawing with the reference photo, then when I'm happy enough that it's accurate I keep going. Constantly comparing your drawing and having a side by side is always what I do
😮that's realistic drawing ✏📄👌👏👏 😍thank you 🙏💕 .😌i learnt very much from u☺😊......... & yeah i love❤😘 your voice😉 that doesn't let me to skip the video 🎥
You are absolutely right it has taken me exactly 3 years to improve on some of the things I really wanted to improve on your advice has helped me out a lot esp with my flesh tones 3 years ago I started my first colored pencil drawing and your tutorials have helped me every step of the way so I wanted to say thank you your advice really works! 👌🏻😁
Your dead right about criticism I always let my lad see my art first because I know he’ll be really honest and Tells me straight if he sees somethings not right :)) And I think fresh eyes is a must when you’ve been looking at your drawing for hrs:)) Aww and I know your right about other points too 🤪👍 love your art specially the animals in coloured pencils 👍 just not sure about Potter though lol

Beautiful... Great talent....
I've got a good technique to get better! Pick out one part of the drawing that you need to work on, and draw that part out separately from everything else, so you get a feel on how to draw that in the real drawing! Like the eyes, nose, mouth, etc.
Super helpful! Thank you so much!💕
you are really amazing 😍😍,your tips are really helful. Thanks for doing it 😇😇
Hi, Kristy you are amazing I am big fan of Lindsay Wagner... I love to draw her...
Constantly comparing your drawing and having a side by side is always what I do
Thank you great tips
Very helpful again!!tnx
