I love the smoothness of this drawing. I have trouble figuring out which fleshtonez work best on different faces and this tutorial answered some of them really well.
I took fine arts course in my college. And they thought as how to outline a face, I think thats for one subject for whole semester, all about outlining, reference photo looking and shading. But in other subjects I always use gridlines because I want them to be so accurate
@wasubu l minoco san l No, every artist does not trace. Many artists use the grid method. I hand draw all my portraits. And I do that whether its traditional watercolor or digital portrait. I think its important that I be coloring my own drawing, not some perfect trace of a person
oh my gosh thank you so much!! your tutorials have helped me grow so much as an artist, and i couldn’t be more grateful. you’re such a huge inspiration to me :)
Keep practicing and you'll get better. I'm not a professional but I consider myself quite good at drawing faces and anatomy in general. I don't draw realistic faces like Kirsty here not even close but my point is that I took the time to study faces and anatomy from anatomy books, reference photos and my own face and I tried to understand how things work and why. Looking back at my old sketchbooks they look like crap compared to what I can do today (which is why I threw my old ones away lol XD). But I keep drawing. The key is to not just copy what you see but to understand WHY it looks like that and what purpose does it serve. Sounds tedious but the key to understanding the outside is by first understanding the inside.
Saludos y gracias!
Those colours are SO expensive, I was actually shocked when I saw the price.. Are there any more affordable alternatives that will still offer the same results? I'd love to start using colour in my portraits but I can't find good colour pencils..
I actually have cheap colored pencils and even the they don't bland as well as the ones she's using the drawing is still coming out great. I slowed down the video so i can see what colors she's using and i'm drawing at the same time and it's turning out great even with the colors i have
i been watching tutorials for days...your articulate and you gift is the best of the best!!! u r blessed with a frequnecy/vibration only a few r PRIVLIDGED to
I always do the sketch lightly because I get scared the pencil lines will show through the colors, am I wrong to think that? I mean I never put shadows before coloring
Yasmine Art what i do is i do the sketch normally and then go over the lines again with my pencil just a little bit harder so when i erase the sketch i can still see the residue of the pencil led (i hope that made sense) and also the pencil led showing isn't that much of a problem most of the times because they are where the shadow areas are anyways so the color of the shadow will cover them
Elena thank you so much it makes perfect sense ! Will be trying the pencil technique later for the shadows because I usually make it using a darker color pencil over the colors, maybe it will look better !
This is a great video Kirsty!! I noticed that your tutorials usually focus on people facing the front so i was wondering if perhaps you could do a tutorial on profiles? Love your channel!! 🤗
Oh! Cool! I'm looking to improving some of my technical skills and I feel like I could learn a lot from this and apply it to my own styles. Thanks for putting these up! Seeing other processes is a help to see how certain stuff is done. :)
Oh my god you are amazing your videos are so helpful I've always loved drawing and always thought something was off about my drawings just not realistic enough so I've watched and followed along with nearly all of your videos on realism and I've managed to use it in my own drawing now I'm so happy with the look of my portraits thank you so much your amazing!!! Xxx
275 likes and 0 dislikes...damn right there ain't no dislikes, you've got pure time and effort shown there, keep it up! It's truly fantastic! My edit was that I spelt truly wrong and that I'm pointlessly pointing that out.
I just wanted to say I love your channel so much!! This tutorial was amazing, your are one of my favourite youtube artists!!! your art is incredible! hope you have a great day!
Yay! New videooooo!! The drawing is so so beautiful!!!! I have a question though, how do you keep the features so sharp and crisp? When I usually work in colored pencil, my outline sketch would be great! I made sure I have great proportions, sharp colored pencils, even great paper! But when I apply the color pencil down, everything kind of gets warped and looses the shape of the outline so it looks like a big muddy mess. I also use the Gamsol Mineral Spirits which you can get in the US, and I look at a bunch of tutorials on how to use it correctly. But my work never looks like the persons who's giving the tutorial. Do you think its my colored pencil skills in general, or is it the way I use the Mineral Solvent? It would be suuuuuper helpful if you could give me some tips for improvement!! Your art is amazing by the waaay! Keep it up girl!
I really enjoyed your video but there is only one thing that I have to ask : How do you get such an accurate sketch? I hope that you can make a video on this topic
Dude!! You are amazing!! I love your work!!!!! I have learned SOOOO much from you and I have only watched, like, three videos!! You are supercallafragalistickexpialidosush!!!!!!!
Words can not describe how great this piece is! Beautiful, I'm not one for using colour but your work has me considering it, truly amazing work, captured Emilias likeness perfectly, your hard work paid off
Thank you so much Kirsty I am do impressed with your skin tones, your tutorial is just amazing,I will practice your style, in the video go so fast but I hope I will get good results after few days of practising, thank y♡u
Wow! You have done a really realistic drawing. Can you please do a video on how to blend colour pencils for portraits, how much pressure to use, how to use your electric highlighter etc. Thankyou👏😊👍
Hi! I don't think you've done a video of this before so could you make a tutorial of how to draw closed eyes? There are so many about open eyes but not many about closed. PS I just found your channel and I love your videos and art!
I admire your patience for creating realism like that, it's very impressive, also for even offering your knowledge. Imo, I prefer the style more along the lines of another UA-cam Artist, Jasmina Susak because of the more "not-as-realistic-look" but still being anatomically accurate.

I'm not good at drawing faces they either look really uncanny and creepy or just ridiculous😭

+Realtin O'Brien I would recommend the prismacolor premier coloured pencils. They are much more affordable and will get you similar results 😊
Realtin O'Brien derwent coloursoft do a really good skin tone set, which is cheap, and they are good more budget pencils

Yasmine Art awww you're welcome!! And have fun drawing and trying out new techniques!!!
Just use a pencil that erases well, or a good eraser and then your good your fine if u do what you normally do
Meli's Art I'm asking because I saw Kirsty do the shadowing with a regular pencil before coloring, or am I mistaken?
