This brings back memories. I started riding in the '70's and remember these bikes. The sound of today's sport bikes does not compare to this beautiful, raspy sound. Alas, we are left with hideous, plastic clad, misshapen monstrocities. So much for progress...
This bike does sound glorious, and modern Japanese sportbikes do have the insect look that I don't really love, but really? Progress? Fuel injection, super rigid frames, silly awesome brakes, gobs more power, and generally good reliability... yeah, they sure don't make them as they used to. Admire machines for what they are, and please compare apples to apples.
Damn, That Kawasaki sounds like a beast, I know, b'cause I own quite a few of the Z-1900, KZ900 A, LTD, KZ 1000A-2, and LTD, all with KERKER exhaust!!!
I had a 1977 KZ 650 and it had the stock exhaust on it when I got it and someone told me to get the Mac 4to1 exhaust for it and I did but I didn't like the sound and I came across a kerker 4to1 exhaust and I got that one and I loved that sound i had so many people ask me what bike it was it sounds like a sport bike but don't look like one i miss that bike i have been talking the wife into letting me get another one and keep the other bikes i have
I had a '76 KZ900 which I bought new- modified it with Kerkers, velocity stacks, and all sorts of other neat stuff. The sound that bike made with the baffle out, especially screaming through the gears, was unmistakable. Like a formula 1 race car, only better... Thank you for your video- I could listen to it all day.
Unmistakable is right.... I remember my dads old 77 howling in the distance as he left for work in the early AM. It was a unique and amazing sound. IThanks for sharing your memories and glad you liked the video =)
I remember being a teen an a bike freak listening to the z1r’s cb 1100’s with kerker exhaust no baffles! Man you could hear them from blocks away! Nothing they have now compares to that ol school sound! Finally i got a 84 ninja 900 but by then they were headers with a canister.
Your right about the most beautiful bike on earth, these bikes changed the motorcycle world. These are the bikes that spawned a revolution in motorcycle design and set the bar high. Harley Davidson was eating dirt with the AMF garbage and the other Japanese competitors were in a scramble to keep up on the track. I didn't mention British because back in those days if Harley was dozing off, Triumph, Norton and BSA fell asleep at the wheel.
Man wen i ran up on this video i said dam that's my old bike ... I know it's good . Them were the bikes then n now ... wat you want for it .... kaw guy for life..
The real McCoy.That sound is priceless. Go and video it as you ride it and red line it.It will sound fantastic at 9000 rpm believe me. You cant buy that sound now. And th elook of the exhaust is great not like the mess that they hav emade of exhausts now.
Did you have a problem with mid-range leaning out with the open megaphone pipe? I had to raise the jet needles a notch or two on mine to get it to not stutter in the mid-range on hard acceleration.
I love the seventies, early eighties UJM motorcycles, especially standard KZs. I had a 78 KZ650 and am looking to buy a used (of course) KZ 1000J, or standard. Never liked the LTD style,,no offense. Kawasaki put larger diameter forks on the Zephyr and I feel that would really do wonders along with new shocks and larger swing arm bearings in place of the old small bushings.
Sounds much better without filter its whole another animal great bike super strong 💪
Just got a 1977 kz1000 , love these bikes !!!!!!

I will agree the sound is way better but there’s a reason why companies are making those misshapen monstrosities

Especially when you had several bikes riding together! Sounded like 8 f18 hornets flyin bye!
Had one of these many moons ago. Same Kerker exhaust. My neighbors loved me when I warmed it up early in the morning
Theyre gonna love it one way or another yep ...lol
The KERKER was the best exhaust ever made for motorcycles. The aftermarket exhaust companies should go back to this.

Joe Trout miles away, or on the freeway at night, 6 grand on the tach

What jets did you use?
I've owned a 1978 red LTD 1000 with a KERKER and a 1980 black / silver LTD 1000 with a different brand header...the KERKER was far better.
Oh God...Oh God...Oh God......was it good for you?
Lad nu den kværn blive varm først inden du begynder at rode med dens karburator. Et godt råd
@madragon5 works for me too =)
Do it! lol
