Living in Vegas one of my favorite Bond flicks for obvious reasons. I go down to Freemont quite often and replay this scene over and over when I'm down there. The Mint is no longer around (I believe it is the place you can get the Deep Fried Twinkees now). Don't see Jackie Gaughn's Plaza and The Pioneer Club is no more, Vegas Vic the smoking cowboy is still there but he now stands on top of a gift shop.
As luck would have it, the family was on a short vacation in Las Vegas and visited Freemont Street the night of the filming. We didn't stay around long, but everyone you see on Freemont Street stood there for hours to watch the actual filming. It was a great experience to see some of it. I like the movie because I saw a little bit of movie history being made.😊
On my way to a party today, I drove thru this same area! Waited forever for a red light to turn green, and started to drive all across Fremont street to find my way to that party. I managed to make it with no problems. I didn't know if I had a Bond moment or not. Traffic is alot hectic on the new strip than Fremont street!
The chase scene featured here will hopefully be used in the upcoming epic movie version of the classic 1991-95 NBC sitcom series of “BLOSSOM”, but the movie version will be using the title of “JAMES DEAN VERSUS NICK RUSSO”, and in place of the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, the 1969 Dodge Charger known as the General Lee will be fleeing from the blue and white 1970 Ford Custom police cruisers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as well as the black and white 1971 Ford Custom cruiser used by the Clark County Sheriff’s Department due to the fact that Las Vegas is in Clark County, Nevada.
Bill Hickman who drove the Dodge Charger in Bullitt and the Pontiacs in the French Connection & The Seven Ups was the driver who performed the jump over the cars from the parking lot. The previous stunt driver destroyed two mustangs trying to do it. They were down to their last Mustang; they called Hickman in to do the stunt and he got it on one take. Showed why he was known as the best stunt driver at that time.
In Goodfella's it's supposed to be 1963, but Henry and Tommy have their buts parked on a 65 Impala SS. I guess the were time travelers, Can't believe Scorsese didn't notice!
I love how the second director basically threw up his hands and gave up on crowd control during this scene. People are just all over the sidewalks, barely off the streets with no restraints as cars nearly fly into them. Another part of America you will never see again.
This car chase reminds me a lot of the one in Bullitt with Steve McQueen in San Francisco when he's in his classic Ford Mustang GT chasing the thugs' classic Dodge Charger. 🌟
Just FYI - This chase on Fremont Street (many years prior to it being pedestrianized), during the course of which 007 passes several famous casinos, notably the Vegas Club, Binion's Horseshoe, and the Golden Nugget, on multiple occasions -- and in both directions! -- without making enough U-turns to make sense and without making enough turns, period, to have been driving around the block....well...the whole scene seems to mess with the space-time continuum!!
vinceoniep the car flip from right to left was due to a continuation error. The entrance and exit were filmed at two different locations and a second stunt driver who was French was used to doing the stunt on opposite wheels.
Guy Hamilton recently revealed the reason for that error. The exiting from the alley was filmed first and the entering came second and when they realised it and Chubby Brocolli refused to let Guy "fix everything".
@davz1992 yeah i noticed that too. Pretty funny cause technically it would have to be wide enough to drive through normally to swap the car over like that.
Anyone notice how many times the drive straight past Binion's and The Four Queens over and over again in one continuous straight line? It's fun to compare how that are looked then as opposed to all roofed-in as it is now...
Tell me about it! I live in Las Vegas myself. I believe The Mint is now The Horseshoe, The Pioneer Club is now a gift shop, The Plaza is big, and the Vegas club is still there.
Vegas Club is history, demolished around December 2018, now as of July 2019, abrsnd new building going up, at the moment , 3 construction cranes. Some sections already 3 stories poured.
the motorcycle helemt was a normal part of the uniform nack in the 60s and 70s watch a movie with clint eastwood called the gauntlet all the cops wear helmets in that movie to it used to be part of the gear they wore sortof like a riot helmet lol even if u watch chips the CHPs that drive cars wore the helmets
Actually they filmed the car exiting the alley first and then went back to Britain(I think?) to film it entering but the guys filmed it entering the wrong way, and they couldn't be bothered doing it again
Why would they want to switch the way the car came out of the alley anyway? I mean if it went into the alley on the passenger side 2 wheels why would they want to switch the scene so that it came out on the drivers side 2 wheels?
I just keep wondering... They got it right in the first shot (even though the first shot was unusable due to the crowd), so why couldn't they duplicate the same stunt with the car on the right wheels?
The Utah State Troopers and the SLCPD (Salt Lake City) officers were villains in the 1983 drama movie of “SAVANNAH SMILES”, just as the Chicago PD and the Illinois State Police were the villains in “THE BLUES BROTHERS” in 1980, and even tv producers occasionally make police officers the villains as they did in the 1963-67 ABC drama series “THE FUGITIVE”, not to mention that the police officers for the city of Nashville, Tennessee, became the villains when they separated a boy from his father on orders from a private investigator named Matt Greenwood as played by the late actor Lance LeGault in the episode titled “DOWN HOME COUNTRY BLUES” on “SIMON & SIMON” in 1985. Even in the classic 1979-81 NBC adventure comedy series of “BJ & THE BEAR” portrayed the greater majority of the police officers as villains, depending upon the storyline of the episode in question, and the same thing goes for the classic 1979-85 CBS adventure comedy series “THE DUKES OF HAZZARD”.
When each and every portion of this scene is re-enacted for the upcoming epic movie “JAMES DEAN VERSUS NICK RUSSO”; the movie version of the classic 1991-95 NBC sitcom series of “BLOSSOM”, the police will become a house divided against itself as Blossom Russo herself together with 1950s movie icon James Dean are being hunted by the police thanks in part to the social influence, political connections, and thensome of a Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Sunderland (for which an uncredited stand-in will play by filling in for the late actor Lloyd Bochner).
This is the worst car chase scene in the entire series imho, because : 1.The street was too crowded to actually give us a nice chase 2.Bond and the cops was going too slow 3.There were too many cops chasing him at once 4.The cops suck at driving
I remember traveling thru Las Vegas back in the early 1970's, and seeing Fremont Street in it's Glory .
Who doesn't love Old Vegas?!
How about Dan Tanna, private investigator?!
goes up the alley ramp and gets the left side in the air and comes out of the alley with the right side in the air, THAT is some great driving
The correction for that which they put in didn't make it better, it called attention to it. Terrible move
Fucking continuity

Ahh the sexy sound of a 429 CJ... I love the '71 Mach 1!

You can see the Plaza Hotel before construction was finished. It's dark, but you can definitely see the outline of it.
Fremont before the canopy and overhead light show.
"I think Larry got him. Thata boy, Larry!"
greatest movie blooper EVER

In the Blue Bros, during the mall chase it looks like some of the extra's almost get hit!
@@richardbrown6950 lol I doubt John Landis would have minded.
No offence Sharron Angle. A favourite scene.

And speaking of Dodge Chargers, how about if the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 was substituted for 1969 Dodge Charger known as General Lee?????!!!!!
@@user-wi6sh6vh8u I wouldn't be so sure about that.
I love this scene.
it was a '71 Mach 1

+zizzfilm Well,. that and the fact that it's possible to flip a Mustang from one side to the other side in a narrow alleyway right? :)
vinceoniep the car flip from right to left was due to a continuation error. The entrance and exit were filmed at two different locations and a second stunt driver who was French was used to doing the stunt on opposite wheels.
no wonder why in the rock Connery drove the hummer like a badass
Fremont Street is not the same as it once was.
Guy Hamilton recently revealed the reason for that error. The exiting from the alley was filmed first and the entering came second and when they realised it and Chubby Brocolli refused to let Guy "fix everything".
The exiting car was filmed in Vegas, the Alley shot in the Studio back lot.
He should have refused the added shot they made to "fix" it. That calls attention to the error rather than make it go away.
great carchase!
Vegas in the 70s I was born in 1980

Brilliant!
Nice 71 Mach-1 Mustang!
A known famous continuity error in this movie. If you notice they change positions midway, that was an edit to "correct" the exit from the alley.
How no one got killed is beyond me.
Why does the car at first lean to the right then exit on the left?
Still classic.
That wasn't daylight, they were ''neons''. You can see them at 3:35.
4:13 What is that car behind the Mustang???
Anyone with car knowledge?
The cops are wearing motorcycle helmets in the cars.
On rainy days the Seattle M/C cops would take out Coronet/Dart/Aspen pursuit units and wear their helmets.
And sunglasses at night.
Being a British agent you have to quickly switch to driving on the other side for sure!
Tell me about it! I live in Las Vegas myself. I believe The Mint is now The Horseshoe, The Pioneer Club is now a gift shop, The Plaza is big, and the Vegas club is still there.

clark county sheriff's department, now their the las vegas metro police
hegoes in on his right tyres and comes out on his left... nice cut scene in between it though
Nobody beats Bond especially the Connery bond! Jumping over a cop car with a muscle car, predates the Dukes of Hazzard.
Why do you think it's a blooper you clearly see them tip
did we all catch the mistake?
What mistake?
Mustang leaning on opposite side as it exits the alley!
3:53 fail
... bit hard to do now.....
Sean connery is my favourite
Couldn't they just have reversed one of the shots so it looked right? Or was that not possible back then?
Because there are signs both going in and coming out of the alley, the writing would have been reversed.
Top Gear s8e7 - 31minute
Mustang mach 1
I just bought a Hot Wheel, and it looks just like that car.
I just keep wondering... They got it right in the first shot (even though the first shot was unusable due to the crowd), so why couldn't they duplicate the same stunt with the car on the right wheels?
$$$$$$
"The audience will never notice."
Why could they not simply flip the nEgatives!
No. How is that possible with no aid like when the "wheelie" begun? Huh?
They are just getting ready to crash, which they know they are going to when Bond is involved.
speirs sent me
how the hell did he flip the car form inside the alley.... that's impossible!!!!
....aaaaah of course, its 007, he can do anything
Speirs probably impressed his girlfriend doing that
палец вверх, те кто сюда с онлайнера пришел =)
They did that for some reason back then.
watch Police Academy and Gone in 60 Seconds.
The Mach 1 wreck in the original GI 60 seconds was real!
They stuck that shot in as a rubbish attempt to cover up their continuity error. Cheaper to add that shot than reshoot the whole stunt.
is bonds freind who can fix everything fix it felix
Damn they make cops look so stupid in movies.
They were just against 007
