Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?
It was like mad max but in the ocean
I've always really liked this movie, I was ten years old when I watched Waterworld for the first time and I've probably watched it at least a hundred times in the decades since. I really like how nearly the entire movie was shot with practical effects, aside from the CGI giant fish attack it is a movie that I would consider as timeless, to a first time viewer it would be hard to pin down when it was made if it weren't for that CGI fish attack.
But yeah, numbers, I think I'm going to give it a 9.5/10, with the CGI fish being the sole reason for the -.5, it just looks so awfully dated now, much like George Lucas's CGI edits of Star Wars in the 90's (I want the original, uncut, untouched theatrical release that is harder to find than a leprechaun's gold at midnight🙄), the CGI add-ons look so out of place and are not needed. Practical effects, including miniatures, are the best all the time, I'm sick of all the CGI in movies these days, producers are really overdoing it. Practical effects lend a serious sense of reality, where CGI can be spotted in a heartbeat and takes from the immersion, which in essence is a large role in my love for Waterworld, it makes it feel like a real and believable world (except for the damn fish lol).
9/10.
Your video is an 8/10,over all this movie was really good, better than Most MCU movies.
8.5/10 mad max is one of my fave older movies and this gives the same vibes.
Mad max on water. Genius.
I've never thought of it that way. 100% accurate.
Sounds like a fan theory
Could be in same universe.
This was probably the pitch 😂
yes, it is old as world statement
I dont care what they say this movie owned
This movie received a lot of negative press, but I really liked it. My dad took me to see this in theatres, and it was awesome.
That's why you like it. Keep this memory forever and don't let anyone say it was a bad movie.
I don't care what the "critics" say, I love this movie. 9/10. Repeat viewings.
1. Good action scenes.
2. Good characters.
3. Good soundtrack.
4. Good special effects.
5. Good story.
signed in to agree with you
Agree. Seen it many times since it came out. It was GOLD to see back then.
It never made sense to me why it got bad reviews, this was a great movie. Someone must have made enemies in the entertainment business...
It was an inventive and compelling story.
Agreed, I've always watched it when those very few chances happened over the years.
i was in this movie when i was 8. i was one of the smoker kids reloading guns when dennis is walking to the car in the smoker ship
That sounds awesome
That so cool. I loved this movie as a kid!
That's impressive. Must have been nice.
😊
Where were you filming?
One of the most underrated films. It is a very very good movie.
They say it was one of the biggest flops ever, But I liked it a lot. It was different.
Yes, loved it!
It was a huge flop. It grossed $88m, putting it in 10th place in 1995 for box office earnings, but it's a flop because it was extraordinarily expensive and that $88m was only like 50% of it's filming budget, nevermind marketing and whatnot.
It was the first movie to cost $200+ million to make (bad weather via a hurricane, salt water corroding the props, weeks before film shooting could restart, etc) Also They didn't have green/ blue screen tech OR graphics like now.
“Nothing’s free in Waterworld.”
That guy thought those limes were free, but they cost him his life.
Ah yes - "Dances with Fish"...
Lol....
Loved this frkn movie. So many amazing scenes. Loved Costner in this ruthless role. So many cool features on his boat they reveal over time. The only thing I would've changed a bit would be to humanize his ship a bit more (he does already in a way, being possessive of it, but they could've went further with it).
Killed that dude over some limes lol
so would I
So underrated I love this movie
Lol
Ah yes, the catamaran: that most fearsome and fast vessel to scourge the seas.
*trimaran

Outrigger canoe similar to what is used in the Philippines
This film has aged well - I like it better in 2024 than I did when I first saw it a million years ago.
Dances with the water-postman of the hood, prince of seas.
The Exon Valdez references were priceless
Its so funny how he has to get so close to his citrus plant to be certain the guy stole them 😂 good film btw
Brilliant film, I believe it was slagged off by the critics ?
Just like "The 13rd Warrior" or "13nd Warriors" (depending on your country), higly hated by the critics but also have a lof of fans. I read somewere that this was the last of those 90's super productions due the high amount of money the spend (producing and everthing) making those big sets. They only got 1/3 of what they spend and changed Hollywood forever aparently... Sad because even without any CGI or special effects they make you belive that Waterworld was real...
I remember hearing a good description of it at the time it came out: "not as bad as all the critics were saying it was, but not as good as its budget should have made it." Personally, I'd never call it "brilliant" but it was fun to watch.
This movie is a retahded cheese fest. Unfortunately, it’s not bad enough to be “so bad, it’s good”
Expensive
As Agent J would say..... "That was a good shot tho right?"
"Please, tell us why you thought little Tiffany had to die..."
Dry land is not a myth. I've seen it. Kevin Costner. Waterworld. I don't know what the big fuss is about. I saw that movie nine times. It rules!
Mad Max: Fury of the Polar Ice
This is the most ridiculous big budget movie ever, but still somehow good.
Basically Field of Dreams minus the corn
screw the critics, this is a great movie
Well back then people didn’t really understand the consequences of climate changes as well as today…
I love this film
pitch meeting is like---> Mad Max ....on a boat.
The most valuable trade item in waterworld is dirt, " pure dirt "
That makes no sense, wasn't he able to swim down and grab some at will

And if you're normal human you'll be dead/ got your eardrum explode because such immense pressure in depth ocean. Have you ever put your attention while watching the scene?
I always found it hilarious that "smoker's" wasn't referring to them being the ones with gasoline engined crafts spewing out exhaust, it was because they smoked cigarettes which Dennis Hopper gave them.
One of my favorite movies. I don't care that it bombed at the box office.
Sees a plane:
- Can we outrun them?
😆
"Nothing's free in WATERWORLD!"
Unfortunately, neither were the tickets to see the movie.
Great movie, Tina Margarino outstanding!😊
I absolutely loved this film. I was really into this and mad max at the time. It can never be exaggerated how expensive this film cost to make 😅
When the guy in the fuel oil tank said Oh, Thank God when a flare was dropped down the hatch. If youve ever worked at a factory or other soul-crushing job, you can relate.
Pay attention, gentlemen: when women came on the board, Costner's life went badly.
That lemon tree is more important than people think. Vitamin C deficiency would be massive killer on a water world.
Underrated movie... Quite well done
This just popped into my feed out of nowhere...I saw this when I was a kid, I feel old now!!!
The scene where he throws everyone spam after feeding them a bunch of false hope is what I picture when Americans watch and talk politics lol
All I'm saying is, he had an entire ocean he could had filtered...
In real life now today, nothing is free!
This was an excellent movie. That sailboat is so cool. That chick is hot.
This film is great fun
Thanks!
Fun movie! So campy! 😂
That's Mr. Jack Black flying that plane
The soundtrack was the music that was played before my wedding started.
dude had a good life before a woman and kid entered it
This film has the Suspense, Action and Adventure of "Pirates Of The Caribbean". The franchise made billions.
Why this film FAILED miserably does not make sense! Still a great flick to watch on a Sat. night!
One of my favourite movies. Remember Jack Black and the aeroplane pilot.
2:11 The sack is still in the water...
2:09
That's Jack Black flying the airplane.
Great movie!
Funny thing, i had it on VHS and we watch it with my friends 2 times a week xD the rest of the day we were outside do the boys stuff.
Mad max on water!
Road Warrior, Wet. Glad as hell I didn't pay for this.
One of my favourite hidden gems
There is nothing like "free lunch" on our planet ...
I miss the analog scenes without CG so much, they're so cool
Best movie
I think This movie still holds up should have been a success I don’t like sequels but this has the potential for a franchise I’m sure Hollywood will pick it back up Within the decade reboots are popular now but it probably wouldn’t be as good as the og.
This is crazy
As a movie goer or watcher, I don’t care about budgets, rewrites, production issues, profits, on set conflicts, etc. All I care about is the final product. Was it great? Was it good? Is it re-watchable? Is it bad? The usual stuff. This movie imo was good. Definitely rewatchable. They copied the Mad Max theme but gave it a different twist with the earth completely covered in water and “no more land” and that was kind of cool. I dig the scenes that show the cities underwater and the sunken submarine (anybody catch the ski slopes?) Also the subject matter of a human starting to mutate and adapt to the surroundings. Love the head slap to the back of the girls head 😂. Kevin might have went a little too hard there.
This movie make me dehydrated 😂
funny, costnar tried to buy himself into being an action star and with his dad bod and lack of skills he failed numerous times
Can someone explain to me how this movie failed at the box office? This is one of my favorite aquatic apocalypse films.
Movie of the century
Buena peli.
Mon film préféré ❤❤❤
He smacks the little girl in the head, "What are you thinkin' about?!" Almost peed my pants when I first saw that. Also, when he thinks the girl is too noisy he throws her overboard (goes back, ok?) I think the whole show is hilarious and fun. WW has faults, but it also has some magic.
If they cut out like 25 minutes of schmaltzy junk, it would be a top 10 action movie of all time. I think they blew so much money on it, they didn't want to cut any footage? OR, dopey Kevin Costner refused to cut the hero/schmaltzy parts?
This film is soo good! The critics were WRONG!!!
Everyone seems to hate this film, it’s one of my guilty pleasures.
Jack Black as the plane pilot. 😂
his sail... it's so.. BIG..
When life gives you lemons
The critics must have been on drugs, this move is awesome.
Banditos are very dirty through the water around all
Truer statement never told. Even Kevin Costner literally paid for the movie to finish when they ran over budget.
Jayce, go get Rip. Mr. Dutton's hallucinating again...
Costner specializes in big budget bombs.
Costner's best movie.
Nicht ganz, Dances with wolves ist der Beste!!!!! Costner, so ein sympathischer Mann!!!!!
❤
Watched this movie on VHS about a thousand times. It gets corny at some points. Near the end. But i loved it anyway
Love min tian
Logical question. Why weren't there any submarines in water world?
Seems like in a lawless world of bandit raids and submarine is almost a necessity.
I take orders from the octoboss😅
When I was little kid, we had only two VHS tapes at home: Water World and Shrek 2. I watched one of these movies almost every day, for years. I watched them so much I could play them in my memory, remembered every scene detail, every word from dialogues. Water World universe stuck very tightly to my imagination. When I was playing LEGO, building things in sandbox, or just running araund with a stick like kids do, it was Water World themed many, many times. This movie has special place in my heart, and I cannot watch any scene now without having tears of nostalgia in my eyes
I take it Jack Black told the gunner not to miss next time
I didnt know King Bowser used to be King Koopa's minion
turn WW upside down for the superior MM
Where they do they get their fuel from for the jet skies? 😂
Oil tanker watch full movie
Free water
Sorry, Furiosa, you have no chances vs this.
This isn’t just a Disney attraction? There is a real movie?
WaterWorld...,
Gonna happen for sure now,
So learn to fly long distance
2:09
They don't make movies like this anymore
7:00 it’s a trap
Thanx❤❤❤❤
