I second your statement. I checked five different videos before this one. They were blabbing on about nothing. Minutes had gone by and they had yet to talk about how to use the Mala. This starts right off by telling you how to use it. This also points out that sincerity and use of the mantra is important - not which hand or which finger you use.

Perfect - the Mala helps sustain the mantra when thoughts enter the mind. For me they are a physical tool to use to help keep focus and the 108 represents completeness. At the end of 108 my intention for the practice is complete.

I loved this video! I just ordered a simple sandalwood mala. I've been meditating for a few years but recently discovered that I'm more focused when I use beads. I'm also glad that you mentioned that it's not about the material the mala is made out or how it looks but about our intention when using it.
I find that there has recently been a market around selling fancy and expensive mala, singing bowls, Buddha statues, etc. That seems so strange to me since fashion, trends and materialism doesn't really gel with what the Buddha represents.

I just finished making my own mala with beads I had picked up. I bought a mala while in China for a school trip over spring break, not knowing entirely what it was, but this was a great video. I wanted to make my own so that if I did start practicing Buddhism, I could feel more connected with it. I am not one for religion. But Buddhism, being a philosophy, seems like something I would want to try and practice.

    • @ToastedSoda

Buddhism is not just a philosophy, it’s also a very superstitious religion with many deities. Please don’t try to change our religion

    • @TheMickSheahan
      @TheMickSheahan 2 роки тому +5

@@ToastedSoda buddhism has many traditions. Not all are superstitious, nor do all of the traditions have dieties. Also, Buddhism has changed everytime it is introduced to a new country from India...where it originated not as a religion but teachings on how to stop suffering in life. It also teaches that change is always happening...in each moment and that is the cause of suffering. Funny you should ask someone not to change "your" religion. Everything changes. Nothing is Permanent. Clinging to ideas, clinging to constructs like religion causes suffering.

I imagine Buddhism being like Judaism and Hinduism being like Christianity if we think of it in a western abrahamic sense... As in Buddhism is for serious spiritual people, and Hinduism is more of a thing for the masses. This isn't to tarnish reputations and say all people who practice Hinduism aren't serious and every Buddhist lives their entire lives in the Himalayas, it's just the general vibe I get.
However I will say, I come from an American, non-religious Christian background and I respect the Eastern religions more than my own; not only do they seem to get along more, but the knowledge of why they do certain things is still mostly alive and a lot of the practices still thrive. I was also fascinated by Buddhism most my life, and recently I think I've actually found my Ishta Devatā in Hinduism.. so life has been an interesting ride so far for me, hopefully it has been for everybody else.

Mala beads and yantras together harness the energies that are needed to heal the specific chakra. The energy lines and the con flux of vibrations that are generated through mantra chanting the flow of energy occurs from the universe - the cosmic being to your heart - prana that which is a part of the divine.

The mala is around your neck, and the sacred tilak mark is on your forehead. You wear two loin cloths, and keep your head covered.
If you know God and the nature of karma, you know that all these rituals and beliefs are useless. (1353, 1)
Kabeer, what good is it to become a devotee of Vishnu, and wear four malas? On the outside, he may look like pure gold, but on the inside, he is stuffed with dust. ||145|| (1372, Kabir)

    • @0lest

@@tonicrvnts it's exactly for that, counting how many prayers, chantings, chakras, arhats, breathes you take, etc. There's no specific thing you're supposed to do/say with them (like in other religions), the beads just helps you to focus in your meditation, keeps you from wandering away in your own thoughts. Although there are specific prayers you can do with it (just because you can, to change things a little bit instead of doing the same thing over and over again) it's no at all necessary neither obligatory.

Thank you I always use my middle finger to count . Using the ring finger is much easier for me. And even further from my index . So I dont risk it hitting a bead. I've never seen this method they all say middle finger . When ring finger is better .

    Hello Again.
Yeah I see what you mean, that argument is still futile as a creater still must create these powers. God tells us that he is Most Merciful, Most Generous more than any thing can be that's why after we repent from millions of sins Allaahthe Most Merciful still forgives the person. By being Generous he gave us life & Provisions food water wealth before which we not even dust. The Sun and Moon are two of his signs creations.
    Kindest regards from Sageer Alam

What is it with the recent comments here? It’s like you people suddenly have balls of steel behind that keyboard.
      Meditate a little more BOY.
Show a little compassion instead of showing your asshole to the world.

For me, a mantra is much like the Christian rosary - repetitive and feckless. Sitting comfortably, in a way that does not create discomfort or pain, and doing breathing meditation is far more useful. Why does the mantra have to be in another language? Why is it more "magical" than simply repeating a phrase that is meaningful in your own language? Is it "magical"? Forgive me... but I remain skeptical of these things.
