My family is puerto rican and it's on our cultire... everyone loves the sport. I actually trained at ring one in new haven ct for many years and sparred some legends. I still train one town over and never left the sport I had kids so I never got to excel the way I wanted but I'm blessed to still teach my children and train youth.
Who/What got me into boxing" .. My grandma, every sunday she would come and we would sit to watch the sunday boxing fights, she would make a huge salad bowl for me and 6 year old me would sit down and watch the fights. Pipino Cuevas, Manos de piedra Duran, El maromero Paez, Hagler, Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard. It was my grandma and I thing. My dad got me into. He boxed for awhile in the Army. But it was he always purchasing Ring magazines in the 80’s which came with posters of popular boxers. My first poster was of Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor.

Timothy Bradley was a sponsor for a youth football program I was in many years ago. It felt so surreal to know someone who was one of the “best in the world” at something. Plus he was rather down to earth and visited us at practices often. I remember him pulling up in a wheelchair after his first fight with Pacquiao as well! While I’ve never had the chance to get involved in boxing (amateur or otherwise), I learned a lot about resilience from watching him fight!
my grandfather was a boxer, my uncle was a boxer, i got into boxing almost immediately, one of my best memories was as my uncle, cousins and i watching the Tyson Vs Holyfield "bite fight" and i am still a boxing fan to this day

Tbh the people that got me into boxing were you and Joe Vincent, probably 6 or 7 years ago. I was pretty into MMA, and thought boxing had too many rules. But the more I learn about the science, I enjoy it more and more. The fight that got me way more into the sport was Wilder-Fury 1, and my favorite fight I’ve ever watched live was Crawford-Spence.

I was dealing with excruciating depression and i found a random video of Kieth Thurman and he was going into his next fight, he described depression over a hand issue and idk...it just sucked me in. for one. id never seen a boxer discuss depression and also work out of it to as he did. go onto win that fight. I fell in love then w boxing and its been my strongest memory as to, in my adult life to always hold onto. honerable mention* i saw the sergio martinzes vs chavez and i was on with Sergio hard, till all the water and hiding knee injury with long shorts and making the ring slippery. second of that soon after was my introduction to tyson fury and thats what really got me on board. those were some really great years to be a new fan, cause he swept up after losing the weight, crashing his car and getting off drugs. i am still moved by this despite what everyone wants to say about it. i dont care. theyre both heroes in my book for me.
I got into boxing from 2 factors: 1. I had gotten blood test results that suggested a possible fatty liver, so I got scared as hell and began to earnestly work out for the first time in my life. 2. I began reading Hajime no Ippo. I know, it is corny as hell, but if even a meek, kind boy like Ippo and Tyson could do it, then I could try too. I am grateful to that scare, it forced me to find something to do with my body and I am grateful for stumbling on boxing and a great gym. We had a great Cuban trainer but he had to leave Venezuela in order to train the Cuban team back in the Dominican Republic. The first fight my father let me watch during the PPV night in Fort Bragg was Felix Trinidad and his win over Maurice Blocker in 1993. As for 18:23 i mean teó wasn’t really making some masterful grand moves. Mikey dropped the belt to fight Errol but he was still champion as late as October 2018. Seems like you just wanted to rant about American fighters - fair enough but teó captured a soft vacant belt from a guy in hindsight Loma probably wouldn’t have actually wanted any part of. He snuck in and got a crack at a Commey instead of a Garcia which was smart by his team. The iron was primed to strike. No need to overthink it. Not to mention he’s only fought 5x since losing undisputed in 2021. I am kinda old , so I caught boxing as child on TV. Also, my bio grandfather (a real SOB) was a pro MW. I got out of boxing because I moved to 🇩🇪 for a couple years (86 to 88) and we were poor, so I only got to catch the biggest matches. Then one day I caught this young Japanese boxer with DBZ hair (Nishioka) piecing up some dude on my uncle’s cable at around the turn of the century. I was into mma and kickboxing at that point, but seeing an actual Japanese boxer fight (I’m half) got me into boxing again. Then I really got into with Hasegawa, & Uchiyama, and then Sergio Martinez. I am so glad I got back into it, and I was stoked to find this channel on UA-cam!
I loved sports in general and my mom bought me my first Tyson ppv when I was super little. I love combat sports so you bringing out weight classes into the mix is what I love. I was discharged from USMC boot camp in 2017, I had surgery there and was really depressed since it was my life long dream. Later that year I watched Rocky 1 and was intrigued by the boxer they called the original Rocky. Used to watch ESPN Classic when I was 6 and it would show the older fights. but the one I felt the sport in my body was Ali vs Terrell(Yeah the one in the video), that man Ali gave him the most brutal beatdown I never seen in my LIFE! Afterwards, I started watching more fights and finding out more about other boxers.

I've always loved MMA, kickboxing, MuayThai etc. even tho I don't practice it. In turn I casually watch boxing lol. Ironically it's the least interesting to me, but it pays the athletes the best so hey that's a big plus
What got me into boxing were two things, one was that I found a compilation of videos of "best dodging sequences in boxing" or something like that when I saw that fight where Ali dodges 5 Jabs standing still just slightly leaning back And I said to myself "damn that would be great to be able to do" The second was my first Sparring, it was already the end of the class and my coach asked me if I wanted to do Sparring and I said yes although I wasn't really sure but I wanted to show my commitment. So the 5-minute sparring round was against a guy who was smaller than me in weight and height but obviously more experienced, and he had a more defensive style and didn't punish me too much out of my terrible punches but he dodge most of them naturally, I don't think I even landed 10 punches. But I didn't care because it made me feel so good to have the Sparring that I left happy with life and at that time I remembered every second of the Sparring That's what got me into boxing.
When I was in High school I was so very upset and angry at life and my family life. I got into fights and lashed out, pushed others away who were trying to draw close. Tbh I disliked myself. But I saw an old friend from middle school and he told me he was going to a gym for MMA that had a boxing program. I went and no one took me seriously until this older guy Rollie saw me shadow boxing and was like, “woah! Kid you’re a natural.” I couldn’t even believe it haha I thought he was blowing smoke. He convinced my future trainer Sammie to just take a look at me and when he did he wouldn’t let me out of his sight haha. Love you Rollie, RIP.
I was in Elementary school when Hagler vs Hearns was shown on TV. It fascinated and scared me at the same time . I think, it was then when I was hooked for life.
What got me in to boxing was some youtube channel (not yours, but I don't remember who) which showed some sort of drama as if it were a TV special or something. I think it was about Muhammad Ali and Joe Frasier. It featured Frasier saying during an interview his reflection that "If I could just get that one hit." and on screen it showing Frasier hitting Ali's "off" button, putting his ass on the ground for the first time in his career. The entire presentation and execution of the documentary was just perfect, and it made me ask myself "If there is someone who could put themselves to this extreme and dig in THIS deep....what else has happened in boxing?" Later, I would find your other channel, and learned stuff that would make even old guys who experienced it nod their head and smile. I can't tell you how much people open up when all you need to mention is "Gatti Ward 1 and the other fights was pretty great." Also: I remember someone (I'm not sure if it was you) who described a fight between two relatively lesser known boxers, but it's an example of two boxers who literally gave their all and left everything in the ring. Like, they didn't NEED to fight that hard, but both of their respective passions just drove them to superhuman levels. I can't remember the fight's name, though, or who boxed in it.

The first fight my father let me watch during the PPV night in Fort Bragg was Felix Trinidad and his win over Maurice Blocker in 1993. Naoya vs Nery might be one of the best examples and by a good margin. Couldn’t agree more . But Nery does have some semblance of a moral victory here given the circumstances. He sat a P4P great on their ass cleanly in their quintessential prime of their career on home soil. That’s rare. Can you name another time it’s happened? Bc I can and there’s a reason it’s etched into our memory. I’m not sure Inoue will get dropped like that ever again barring some leaps in weight - atleast not for a while. Naoya stood on business but no matter how ppl wanna spin it and talk about fighting through adversary, Nery showed god can bleed. We’ve yet to see how he bounces back from this too.
As for 18:23 i mean teó wasn’t really making some masterful grand moves. Mikey dropped the belt to fight Errol but he was still champion as late as October 2018. Seems like you just wanted to rant about American fighters - fair enough but teó captured a soft vacant belt from a guy in hindsight Loma probably wouldn’t have actually wanted any part of. He snuck in and got a crack at a Commey instead of a Garcia which was smart by his team. The iron was primed to strike. No need to overthink it. Not to mention he’s only fought 5x since losing undisputed in 2021. So some of your scathing criticism of US fighters might end up applying to him as well.I mean he’s LITERALLY telling espn as recently as June 2024 big names don’t want to fight him bc the risk that’s why he signed to fight Claggett ironically enough lol
I am kinda old , so I caught boxing as child on TV. Also, my bio grandfather (a real SOB) was a pro MW. I got out of boxing because I moved to 🇩🇪 for a couple years (86 to 88) and we were poor, so I only got to catch the biggest matches. Then one day I caught this young Japanese boxer with DBZ hair (Nishioka) piecing up some dude on my uncle’s cable at around the turn of the century. I was into mma and kickboxing at that point, but seeing an actual Japanese boxer fight (I’m half) got me into boxing again. Then I really got into with Hasegawa, & Uchiyama, and then Sergio Martinez. I am so glad I got back into it, and I was stoked to find this channel on UA-cam!
Watching JCC fights with my pops in the early 90s got me into boxing. Favorite sport ever since.

I loved sports in general and my mom bought me my first Tyson ppv when I was super little. I love combat sports so you bringing out weight classes into the mix is what I love. I loved mauy thai since a kid also but never knew how many pro Maui thai fighters went to boxing and did well all thanks to you!
Tyson-Douglas got me into boxing. I was 4 years old, watched it on HBO with my dad. It's my earliest memory of professional sports. I spent many weekends over my childhood watching HBO Boxing with my dad, and we still always watch a fight whenever I come home to visit.
I was discharged from USMC boot camp in 2017, I had surgery there and was really depressed since it was my life long dream. Later that year I watched Rocky 1 and was intrigued by the boxer they called the original Rocky. I watched old fights of Marciano and his knockout against Jersey Joe got me hooked on boxing and I’ve been a fan since.

I really started watching boxing back in the early days of Bruno and watching the Olympics with my brother in the late 70's. And discovering the greatest mouth and mitt in boxing, Ali.
My father was a semi-pro boxer early on and was a huge fan on Hagler. That was my childhood, go see Hagler somewhere in MA, drive home listening to Carlin (don't tell your mom!) and just watched every fight I could since I have memories.

My mum got me into boxing I was an overweight kid and couldn’t stick to any sport tried lots and boxing was the one that worked for me. Didn’t even really enjoy it at first but fell in love after my first bout and been at it ever since 🥊
My father got me into boxing he passed away a lil while ago and he really sparked it all by teaching me the fundamentals of boxing at a young age and showing me classic matches when I was a kid, I ended up competing In Kickboxing later in life but that had alot to do with watching Ernesto hoost in K1

When I was a kid up until the age of 10 my dad and grandpa would watch some of the big PPV’s at that time. Also, I would watch reruns of old boxing matches at night on ESPN. I stopped watching for a few years until Mayweather vs Ortiz. That 24/7 hooked me and I’ve been watching boxing since then.

It was in the early 1950s, before we had a television at home. I was somewhere with my father and we watched Gillette fights. I "trained" at a boxing gym in primary school. Been a fan since then, and Muhammad Ali has been my hero and a person I try to emulate.
Got into boxing cause my dad was a fan, so it would play in the house when I was a kid, so I developed an affinity towards it. What solidified the love for it was Hajime no Ippo, and made me really appreciate the sport

What got me into boxing was that Mexican generation of boxing in the late 90s early 2000's. From De la Hoya to Canelo. It was my dad getting all the boxing fights like my first one I can recall was Tyson vs holyfield 2.

Rocky (Slyvester Stallone) got me into boxing. As a little kid I had all the movies on repeat. My parents who were actual boxing fan at the time, recorded every episode of the Contender on VHS Tapes. Sly was hosting that show which drew me in. Been a fan of all combat sports ever since.
Canelo vs Yildrim was the first card I’ve watched. The first fight that I saw was Jerry Forrest vs Zhilei Zhang. Crazy how Zhang has climbed up the ranks since then. At that time I thought there was no way he’d get to the top, but here he is. That’s a fight I’ll always remember.
I was a child when Ali was in the twilight of his career. To a small white boy from a little north east shore town he was enchanting, I was mesmerized. I would listen to his interviews and his rhymes and was captivated. I was 5 years old when I first remember watching him fight on T.V. it was the Thriller in Manila. I was sitting on the floor of my grandmothers house cheering for the man that I thought and still believe was the greatest boxer the world has ever known.

I grew up in the 80's. What got me into boxing? The 4 Kings.. Duran, Hagler, Hearns, Leonard. The Hands of Stone actually made me nervous as a kid watching him fight. He was different.
Used to watch ESPN Classic when I was 6 and it would show the older fights. but the one I felt the sport in my body was Ali vs Terrell(Yeah the one in the video), that man Ali gave him the most brutal beatdown I never seen in my LIFE! Afterwards, I started watching more fights and finding out more about other boxers.

I've always loved MMA, kickboxing, MuayThai etc. even tho I don't practice it. In turn I casually watch boxing lol. Ironically it's the least interesting to me, but it pays the athletes the best so hey that's a big plus
What got me into boxing were two things, one was that I found a compilation of videos of "best dodging sequences in boxing" or something like that when I saw that fight where Ali dodges 5 Jabs standing still just slightly leaning back
And I said to myself "damn that would be great to be able to do"
The second was my first Sparring, it was already the end of the class and my coach asked me if I wanted to do Sparring and I said yes although I wasn't really sure but I wanted to show my commitment.
So the 5-minute sparring round was against a guy who was smaller than me in weight and height but obviously more experienced, and he had a more defensive style and didn't punish me too much out of my terrible punches but he dodge most of them naturally, I don't think I even landed 10 punches.
But I didn't care because it made me feel so good to have the Sparring that I left happy with life and at that time I remembered every second of the Sparring
That's what got me into boxing.

When I was in High school I was so very upset and angry at life and my family life. I got into fights and lashed out, pushed others away who were trying to draw close. Tbh I disliked myself. But I saw an old friend from middle school and he told me he was going to a gym for MMA that had a boxing program. I went and no one took me seriously until this older guy Rollie saw me shadow boxing and was like, “woah! Kid you’re a natural.” I couldn’t even believe it haha I thought he was blowing smoke. He convinced my future trainer Sammie to just take a look at me and when he did he wouldn’t let me out of his sight haha. Love you Rollie, RIP.
I was in Elementary school when Hagler vs Hearns was shown on TV. It fascinated and scared me at the same time . I think, it was then when I was hooked for life.

What got me in to boxing was some youtube channel (not yours, but I don't remember who) which showed some sort of drama as if it were a TV special or something. I think it was about Muhammad Ali and Joe Frasier. It featured Frasier saying during an interview his reflection that "If I could just get that one hit." and on screen it showing Frasier hitting Ali's "off" button, putting his ass on the ground for the first time in his career. The entire presentation and execution of the documentary was just perfect, and it made me ask myself "If there is someone who could put themselves to this extreme and dig in THIS deep....what else has happened in boxing?"
Later, I would find your other channel, and learned stuff that would make even old guys who experienced it nod their head and smile. I can't tell you how much people open up when all you need to mention is "Gatti Ward 1 and the other fights was pretty great."
Also: I remember someone (I'm not sure if it was you) who described a fight between two relatively lesser known boxers, but it's an example of two boxers who literally gave their all and left everything in the ring. Like, they didn't NEED to fight that hard, but both of their respective passions just drove them to superhuman levels. I can't remember the fight's name, though, or who boxed in it.
