Live bait might’ve worked your right
Over cast day with glass like water? Top water lure for sure! They seemed to be willing to come to the surface. I have good luck with Hula Poppers and Heddon Torpedos in my local pond.
live bait , probably would of used that baby to catch something actually. I will get back to you but I am going to try to use octopus legs/tentacles to fish with wendsday. I got some from the ones i was cooking and figured they might do well. I shall let you know the results !
Top water anything as they seem to be hitting the top...
don't notice a performance difference with spinning reel with a casting rod? and generally great rule of thumb "don't get struck by lightning"

Saw an orange fish ( over 16 inch) swim by until my wife drop a line where i saw it. 25 inch, 7 lb.catfish.!

So how did the bobber help
The weather wasn’t great but the bobber did show me the bottom of the river and depth. It did ping fish as well.
