And as Jax says; Its not to turn you into an aesthetic beast. Its to make you efficient at the sport and even in a real fight. @@joshb3219 Not exactly a Bruce Lee guru, but I've been meaning to learn some things from him. Lemme rephrase what i'm saying in case I confused you. As Jax mentioned in the video towards the end(these aren't the exact words so please forgive me), 'If you want a Baki physique then train to fight to see how efficient you are, do it the other way around', Thats what i'm doing. I started my path with boxing, but added in weight training along the way so that as I make changes, the skill won't be hindered in any way.
@@The_Backman basically it's easier to start as parkourer, calisthenic, gymnastic(sports activity that utilise your own Bodyweight as a tool) and then be a bodybuilder than the other way around.
Please make Science with Jax a Common thing, the labcoat and glasses made me pay attention even more and I was laughing so hard but yet learning important info xD Boy needs to teach ACTUAL Clasess lmao
I wrestled for 6 years and I'd say thats the closest you can feasibly come to looking like a body builder and doing some sort of martial art. Thats due to the nature of the sport and trying to get an advantage, for instance, I would walk around at 160, relatively lean ~10%BF but would then cut to 133/132. The only way I was able to make weight was to cut water weight and barely eat anything. I would look shredded, but until I actually got to rehydrate and eat something, I would cramp and barely be able to move in my matches. So Jax speaks nothing but truth here, always glad to find informative videos👍🏾
You are sick man cutting from 160 to 132 like that absolute mad lady I was already super lean at my natural weight (132 6%bf) my 5 year of wrestling I had tried to cut to 126 for a senior who came back and wanted wrestle at his spot since he missed his junior year due to injury but man was it hell to cut those 6 pounds almost nothing to eat drink and had to sweat everything out the night before weight ins it was pure hell
I’ve always wondered about wrestlers. A lot (not all) of wrestlers barley lift weights yet they get so lean and muscular. They’re worth looking into 100% if you’re into calisthenics and building a physique without equipment
@@XxMadnessXx definitely worth it we do lift but it's not a key component of training unless you're a heavy weight or a collegiate wrestler trying to put on a few pounds of muscle
I remember when I got to my ideal weight when I was 14 from obese and saying “hell yeah, I can beat Alex now” a friend who practices Muay Thai who I play fight with, I asked to a fight with him on the gym and ending the first round I noticed... that was such a humbling experience.
Not to mention training martial arts is a lot of cardio, you’ll have to eat even more just to stay the same on top of the extra calories to build muscle with bodybuilding.
Be the best of both worlds, build your physique through high level calisthenics or gymnastics (and you will get pretty big if you eat and train well) and heavy compound movements, and train martial arts alongside it. Strength is definitely a huge part of fighting, professionals need to work on fight endurance because they might have to go for five rounds of intense athletics. But for a hobbyist, you can definitely carry more muscle, intimidation factor is a huge part of self-defence anyway.
I'm the same way man. I personally love the idea of looking wicked skinny with a shirt on, but when people try to instigate something I take my shirt off and I'm chiseled beyond anything they were ready for. That's my favorite type of physique. Aesthetic as hell yet capable of good fighting energy
I always figured Baki was portrayed so huge because of how ripped and cut he is...he would have to be to pull off some of the crazy stuff he dose. But Baki is not huge, they make this clear because of how many guys Baki fights that are way bigger then him.
One thing to remember, fighters train to improve their skills, body builders train for size and aesthetics, there are ways to train for both, by finding a balance in between the two , for example I love doing calisthenics and mma, I don’t focus purely on athsetics when strength training and always supplement it with endurance training and cardio
I've observed that the noted weight in Kengen were pretty consistent with looking larger for only having lower body fat. Ohma is like 187. He does look like at least 220.
I think height is also a huge factor. Ohma is like 5"10'(180cm) flat. We just assume massive means tall based on the average height of athletes. 6"3'ish is what most of the average height characters look like, but the amount of Kengan characters at or below 6" is really high. The pro wrestler guy was 6"7ish, and he is massive compared to everyone else.
Baki characters would be scary to see daily. Kengan characters look more comfortable to be seen on the daily. Either way, I'd be scared if I saw any of them or had to fight any of them. Wonderful video btw!!! Merry Christmas!
Ohmaroids. Also not gonna lie this was a bit of an eye opener but i do agree that blending both workouts is deffo possible, the only real thing to do is try and see for yourself or you'll never know
Possible not at all optimal. He explains in the video that it’s extremely unreasonable to be extremely lean, while having giant muscles with explosive power, to be able to fight well. If you have the genetic potential to be big and explosive (fast twitch muscle fibers) then you’d be gassed out in under a minute doing fighting
Found this in my recommendations, I've watch about 50% so far, I think it's hilarious that you are providing better and more accurate information regarding nutrition, body fat, and muscle than some of the fitness channels :D
I gotta say this. You’re videos have inspired me to not just become physically more active, but it’s also assisted me in becoming interested in Kinesiology in my college classes and thanks to you I’ve found what I want to major in for my future career path. The science you go into helps me recognize what I need to read/ review/ study to better prepare for the future.
This video - or the part about speed vs stamina - really showcases the amazing part about fighters like Khabib Nurmagmedov, who has a far faster pace than a good number of other fighters, and he keeps it up for Faaar longer than just about any of the people he fought. He did the baki thing of fighting 15, 20 guys every day with all the sparring partners in the gym.
Pointing out the clear difference between utility and for show type training is always good to see. It brings awareness to the two extremes and gives you the ground work for if you wanna try to aim for a hybrid of the two. Thanks again Jax OhmaRoids

Dude, great video! Love that in the end you mentioned how people are build differently and don't always react the same to specific stimuli. But I kinda wanna talk about how some people take that point way too far. I've been doing strength training for about 2.5~3 years now, but only at the start of this year did I actually began taking adequate amounts of protein, and I managed to recomp a lot. An acquaintance of mine noticed, and asked me for advice, since he was fairly overweight. I helped him out, made him a simple routine and a progression... A month later he begins commenting and replying to some story posts where I was showing a bit of my progress, complaining that I look the way do (which, if I'm being hones isn't really impressive) because I'm "born this way" and have "good genes". Mf calls me on video chat in messenger, dipping french fries and cheese sticks into a jar of mayo, whining that he's fat.
You forgot Alain Ngalani his physique is insane though he is not that great of a MMA fighter since he gets gassed out easily with that much weight and muscle on him.
@@willdeez5013 I agree completely I would’ve definitely put Ngalani but the thing about him is although he’s definitely a great, he never fought any real opponents that I can remember. Even when he was back in the K1 days
There was so much detail here, i was just expecting a "no, it's obviosuly not, it's a drawing and those muscles get in the way in a real fight". Got a full goddamn biology lesson.
GSP: “ I don't believe in strength & conditioning.” I used to train 6 days a week before the first lockdown, 2 sessions of 2 hours a day on week days and 6 hours on Saturdays. I always was fat regardless of how much I trained, but I was more on the skinny side (67kg for 181cm), I could hit the heavy bag for 40min, I could have gone for longer but had to let other people use it too. My stamina was greater that those who looked fitter. Never could do the Mikasa workout though. I tried it once or twice every year since 2017 but could not complete it without dropping. Once I will have recovered from my injuries, I will make it my goal to complete it. My 2021 resolution, get in the best shape of my life and compete in the amateurs in either Muay Thai or MMA. Thanks for inspiring me and firing me up Jax ! Ohmaroids 🔥🔥🔥
67kg for 181cm ... fat. huh...what? You are way below the weight a man your size should have,I would have said maybe you have no muscles but if you were training that much it ain't possible to be all fluff. Puzzled.
@@samurajenskaia801 Probably has to do with perception has well, having been fat all my life, I don’t think I would have considered myself not fat until I saw the body of a Greek god. Dude I love anime. For the past year I've gotten heavy into working out. How hasn't the algorithm pointed me in your direction sooner? Great video, and your positivity is infectious. You've just gained a new fan. OHMAROIDS! 💪🏾
I use to compete in amateur MMA, and for my 3rd fight I cut 22!lbs in about a month, and because the bout was in Ohio their athletic commission required amateur fighters to weigh-in the morning of the fight to prevent them from cutting too much weight. I weighed in that morning and fought later that night, and although I fought well I lost the decision. Had I not cut so much weight and had more time to recover and rehydrate, I probably could’ve done better. Being that lean, you look good but you’re miserable.
@Drake Barnes thank you, but ultimately the fighters know what they’re getting themselves into, and they always have the choice to just fight at a higher weight class to avoid cutting so much weight.
Preping for a bodybuilding show is the worst you feel very tired, very annoyed, and just want to give up and eat junk food.I was not my strongest at the time and all of my lifts decreased substantially by 20%-25%.I never stepped on stage because of the virus but overall it wasn't a good time for the most part.
This i why I love JaxBlade man, you can tell he really loves the crap out of what he's talking about. That kind of positivity is the kind I strive for, that's the real anime protagonist energy. Ohmaroids lol, I wrote the comment mid video
If you have seen the baki anime then you'll know that the fights usually last around 10 minutes with lots of breaks using their sheer power to end their opponents, even after 1 or 2 minutes they are out of breath, they are not made to last 15 rounds they are built to end it quickly
If you compare, I think 'Koukou Tekkenden' has the most realistic physiques in the Martial Arts genre. While the fighters in that manga are super ripped, they are atleast not super big like Baki characters. But maybe I am wrong.
If I am not wrong, most average people should be able to, it's just that our brain does not let us do so. For instance almost most of us can grind our own teeth because our jaws are obscenely strong. But our brain just doesn't let us.

I’ve watched so many of your videos and have been keeping up with the channel for a while, but this is now my favorite video. The love you put in your videos shows, but this one is something extra special.
Great points here. I would add that since, as a fighter, where you are at in your training camp will have a profound impact on what you are working on in terms of physical development, we should all consider consolidating in the most efficient way our personal training plans to accommodate focused areas of growth. Researching various fighters training camps, and contrasting it with the more general training of either professional fighting styles or older traditional styles developed for battlefield combat can teach one a lot about how to structure your system. Also, as an artist, it can be a lot of fun to try to draw these anatomical marvels engaged in dynamic movements; personally, reality will always take a backseat when the pen hits the page. But I'm just an artist for fun.

Very good quality video! I did karate for a long ass time and a lot of gym at the same time. My strength was a great asset but sometimes it could be detrimental. You can make these things work in your favor no doubt but at the level I was at, I put a bit too much effort in the gym for it to be optimal.

@@JaxBlade Please!
Who needs a Baki bod when you can work towards PC Principal?
LMFAO RIGHT xD

Ch, yeah bruh.
I remember when I got to my ideal weight when I was 14 from obese and saying “hell yeah, I can beat Alex now” a friend who practices Muay Thai who I play fight with, I asked to a fight with him on the gym and ending the first round I noticed... that was such a humbling experience.
Bodybuilding is already tough asf. Especially when you’re starving. Now imagine having to do a fight right after a show.
Not to mention training martial arts is a lot of cardio, you’ll have to eat even more just to stay the same on top of the extra calories to build muscle with bodybuilding.
Damn frfr
frickin nightmare dude
Being hungry in between workouts is even worse!!!
Dude UFC fighter Alain Ngalani, search him up, that dude is a living Baki character
I'd rather be a skinny dude able to kick people's ass, than a bodybuilder gassing out and getting ko'ed after just a minute!
@@AveSicarius True.
Lol that said with Broc Lesnar's Yujiro Hanma sized ass as your pic
I'm the same way man. I personally love the idea of looking wicked skinny with a shirt on, but when people try to instigate something I take my shirt off and I'm chiseled beyond anything they were ready for. That's my favorite type of physique. Aesthetic as hell yet capable of good fighting energy

Angalani is in 2:47
One thing to remember, fighters train to improve their skills, body builders train for size and aesthetics, there are ways to train for both, by finding a balance in between the two , for example I love doing calisthenics and mma, I don’t focus purely on athsetics when strength training and always supplement it with endurance training and cardio
I've observed that the noted weight in Kengen were pretty consistent with looking larger for only having lower body fat. Ohma is like 187. He does look like at least 220.
Imo they nailed that art - to - weight accuracy in the early artstyle, Ohma Legit looked around 187lbs
@@CNNBlackmailSupport 5'10 is 178cm, 5'11 is 180cm , ohma is 182cm, which is 1cm off 6feet, 183cm

Possible not at all optimal. He explains in the video that it’s extremely unreasonable to be extremely lean, while having giant muscles with explosive power, to be able to fight well.

In my first class, I was so tired I couldn’t control my fingers 😂.
That happened to me the first time i was sparring in boxing xd
I felt the same way too when I first started martial arts.
