DO NOT pick these perks in Skyrim

  • Some Skyrim perks are simply not worth it for your build. All the perks involving critical hit damage work off of base damage which is very low compared to the damage you get from your weapons in the end game via enchanting, smithing and skill level increases. Don't get these perks, except the sprinting power attack one if you just enjoy it!

To be fair, the sprint attack is much faster, almost always stuns, takes very little stamina, and allows you to move faster when overencumbered. If you're trying to maximize damage per hit, then sure it's not worth it. But unlike the regular crit perks, the sprint attack is something you have to actively choose to use. Overall, the sprint attack gives you multiple advantages that are still worth it, and when you want higher damage, just dont use the sprint attack. The regular critical chance skills DEFINETLY aren't worth it though at high levels though. It's a noticeable drop in damage when it crits. I'm surprised you never noticed tbh.

Basically: Smithing and Enchantment. First Enchant an armor set while max Enchantment and while under the effects of an Enchantment potion that boosts your skill 25-30%. The armor’s enchantment needs to increase your smithing skill. Now when you are READY get the best armor and your best weapon ready to be upgraded. Drink a smithing potion that does a 25-30% boost and wear the smithing armor. Boom you can make a wooden sword do 110 damage.

I also made an armor set that enhances alchemy. Then made Fortify Enchantment potions while wearing that. Then enchanted a new set of Alchemy armor using these new potions. I needed to repeat it a couple of times, but now I have an Alchemy set that makes Fortify Enchantment potions with 32% boost. I haven't been able to get it higher than that. But doing this sort of things when Alchemy, Smithing & Enchantment are all at 100 with all necessary perks results in ridiculously powerful stuff, and it is a lot of fun!

That also means that once that door resets, you won't be able to lockpick it again unless you get rid of the key. If farming Sneak or 1H/2H/Archery on a single target (like Ralof, Hadvar, or the Greybeards), wait to get damage-boosting skills until you're done training, unless you really need reduced stamina consumption on power attacks. Idk if Destruction leveling works the same way, but if it does I'd wait to pick up elemetal perks.

The math you just shared adding 12 damage to a 170 damage ax is still well over a 5% increase in damage... and every point matters when battling things with high armor/damage reduction. Dropping an enemy even slightly faster prevents wasting attacks on that crouching bandit or chasing that fleeing furry, it also means turning your attention to other enemies that much faster. It also means fewer enemy attacks coming in over the course of larger fights. For the dual dagger wielding types, it appears that crit success applies to poisons too... with all of that attack speed and crit rate daggers are fucking scary before adding poisons.
