In other words, someone who is incompetent in a certain area is unaware of this incompetence, in many cases BECAUSE of their incompetence in the area.
I would say it's applicable in this case.
@@David34981 A critical part of the effect is that 1) Someone is asked to perform a task with an objective outcome, and 2) They are asked to self-assess their performance. It is a statistical effect in controlled conditions. That isn't happening here.

You failed to properly interpret what the data indicates broadly for a very common human behavior. The caller is unable to recognize his own lack of knowledge on a subject that he believes he is an expert in.

They are trying hard to show the hypocrisy and blatant errors in the book. Definitely agreed, they are remaining peaceful. I was one of them years ago but people like them cracked my faith and finally I started to see the "real light". Thanks to people like them I am FREE.

The entire joke of that part of the sketch is that the lead Inquisitor contradicts himself by adding more weapons after stating that the previous batch were what their weapons are. Sure, he's not *lying* when he adds more things that are weapons, but it does contradict the previous count of weapons.
All that to say, is that even if Mr NC didn't say "*only* 4 criteria", by saying there are 4 criteria and listing them, adding one more to the count contradicts the previous statement of what the criteria are

It's not about "errors". It's about stuff that is purposely in there but contradicts other stuff that is purposely in there. The contradictions are not the result of people making mistakes when copying text. It's because they were making shit up that didn't align with shit made up by other people.
That was my thought as well. We aren't talking about misspelled words here we are talking about multiple people, supposedly wirtting something inspired by God, and many of their claims don't line up.

I find god to be a contradiction in his very nature: He loves everybody, and most will burn forever. That's love?
That’s one of my favorite go to examples for the impossibility of the Christian God. Can’t have it both way folks! But it is quite disturbing when a Christian has the balls to say that that is love according to God. That shit shoots a cold shivers down my spine. If they understand that as perfect love, what are they capable of?
Not only that but christians claim their god is all just and all merciful which is a logical contradiction so bad it defines their god out of existance. Because you cannot have mercy and justice as mercy is a suspension of justice. They are mutually exclusive.

The idea of hell itself makes both contradictions, because hell is the same punishment for all crimes, that is unjust, and the fact that hell is infinite and there is no such thing as infinite wrongdoing. So by definition hell is unjust also.

It's also unjust in a third way. Just punishment per definition has a lesson to be learned. That Hell is infinite means it has no purpose teaching those condemned to it a lesson. The fact it doesn't end means any lesson one potentially could learn, "Obey without thought" for example, becomes entirely irrelevant as a lesson, same as "Don't be Evil" etc that you can never leave hell means anything to be learned is meaningless because they can't go live by the lesson learned..

The Talk Heathen hosts are much much much MUCH easier on theist for the most part. They don't necessarily have the seniority and tenure or level of experience that Matt does. Which means callers get to ramble with their bullshit way more than they should. Matt on the other hand has done this enough to pretty much know when and where conversations are going to go sideways.
It’s good to have some variety. My personal taste is for more subtle snark and less of the blunt stuff Steamroller. I completely understand that it is easy to armchair critique this stuff, and very difficult to do off the cuff. That’s why I think the variety is great. Matt has been doing it so long that he is what he is. We know the callers are fairly consistent, so with enough people honing their verbal skills, I trust someone will hit that sweet spot I’m looking for. If someone could maintain the persona of J Snow when he gets angry, that might just work. Although it’s odd that I wish for people to get mad that often, it’s good entertainment.

Second video for me. In other calls he is calm and reasoning. But here the caller should have been shut down faster.
Man, this call was really weird...the caller set up their own parameters, which is meaningless even though he said those are cornerstones of their beliefs, then he changes the parameters (technically added), then he has this weird understanding of logic that doesnt match up with formal logic or even the colloquial understanding of logic; and finally accuses the hosts of all sort of absurdities. It was like watching a republican senator trying to defend himself.

When people bring up logic I just ask them what logic is, because most people don't know what it is. To most people the word logic is just a world that means "I am right". Logic is the rules that one must follow to reason through the implication of definitions and it does not indicate truth at all. A statement can be completely logical and utterly false at the same time.
In the same vein i think its also important to point out that "Common Sense" isnt always right either.
I like that guy. He did more to put people off religion than any atheist I've heard. If by chance he is a joking atheist I hope he goes on to a great acting career. Well done guys for suffering that politely.

So "there can be no contradiction in the word of god" seems to be the rule. therefore "if there is a contradiction it is not the unaltered word of god", seems to be the point? In which case you still have no way of determining what is the word of god, you can only tell what isn't the word of god, you've got a necessary but not sufficent criteron.

I dont think really any Christian uses any specific thing for their belief, If they did, it would be alot easier to convince them they're wrong. The vast majority of Christians cant accurately tell you WHY they believe.
