Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

One of the many problems with Jason is that he really thought he frustrated them with his brilliance. When, in reality, he baffled them with his BS. Talking to people like Jason is like arguing with a flat earther or playing chess with a pigeon.
I feel like that's a massive disparagement of the intelligence of the average pigeon.
Most theists that debate are exactly like flatearthers and many ARE flateathers, antivaxxers, maga supporters.. etc...

Carl Sagan made a prediction talking to a class of 8-10 year olds on the original Cosmos. He predicted that someone would find exoplanets before you're all 30. It happened by the mid nineties.

That's my problem with tithing; so many Christians I know state how things do/would go bad if/when they don't pay up in Church (or pay enough). What they are revealing about their belief is that they imagine God as a looming presence, who WILL fuck you up (or let the devil do so, a distinction without difference) if you don't pony up his cut on a regular basis. I actually had a preacher who used to say that if you were stingy when the plate is passed around, then God would "put a hole in your pocket" when you most needed that money! No wonder I know people who have to beg family for money, because they couldn't NOT give theirs to the church...🤮

Reminds me of the contradiction of prayer changing things and free will, as far as some christians will profess to be true: if I can pray and it will change future events, ie people will act differently than they would have to make my prayer happen, what does that say about their claim of free will

Hopefully I'm not alone in thinking that this guy's NARCISSISM seems to be way off the charts. I'm guessing that very little of what he said is objectively true. He's developed a narrative where he, specifically, is God's Chosen One.

The beliefs they hold will tell them they are the most special. Even with no evidence, feeling good about themselves is more important to them than anything else. It gives them purpose that they feel was *given* to them by a supreme authority that *chose* them specifically.
People like Jason will have an addiction to Christianity like a crack addict. His ego is centered around him having the ability to predict the future by God, it is a special feeling that he would be devastated to lose to reality.

I was assaulted at work by a guy that I had to end up restraining.
Weeks later, I hear from his wife that he was hit by a car on mother's day & in a coma.
I don't attribute this to a god.
This is like ordering bacon and eggs and than saying see I was right. In order for what he's saying to be a prediction, it has to be specific. All I heard was somebody would get into an accident and be hurt but what type, how badly, on what date/time? This is so open ending it's worthless.
The “order food” argument is not very effective because it only covers the “prophecies” where the “prophets” take deliberate action toward making them come true (ex: the founding of Israel state).
Most prophecies however are related to events extraneous to the will of a limited number of individuals. These are invariably either vaguely described or refer to common events.
Thinking, the final frontier. These are the voyages of talk heathen….

If he has been bullied by a bully, the chances are quite high that said bully would suffered something physical in the immediate future because… well… bullies take physically risky attitudes towards other people and are generally reckless.

Those are just observations of circumstances. Its easy to predict outcomes based on understanding of parties involved

People should be more aware of their own egocentric views, esp when it comes to people around them getting hurt or killed. So many times I talk to people who think this happens because of something they themselves did/didn't do...But those people had lives and moral actions/inactions of their own, do you REALLY think God would hurt/kill someone who's basically a decent person (which also hurts all the people in that person's life), just to get at YOU? What does that say about a god would do such a thing?
Jason was right: he was NOT inconsistent. He was absolutely consistently inconsistent.

A major problem I had with biblical reality is how and why roughly 2/3 of the New Testament is dedicated to "Paul", the apostle who never once met Jesus in his lifetime. - (And that includes the quote from "Romans" that was cited in this show.

I love the video and that you are patient as you talk with this caller. I will admit that I don't know if I could last for a minute with them. I have problems with how people don't know how to find common ground with others.What you are doing really matters. I would love to know more about how to communicate with people. I'm in teach me more, because is important for people to able to communicate with each other no matter their is background. You encouragement to others for learning how to work with each other is sadly rare where I'm from. You give tools to learn. I had bad personal experience with people of faith. I want to learn from you. And I hope people in the future can be learn to make things better and not just assume that things are right continuing the cycle. Love your videos ❤

one time in grammar school...I was sitting on a lawn with Carolyn who I hardly knew...we were playing "ask questions"... it was her turn and I KNEW she was going to ask me if I wore underwear..and SHE DID!...am I a prophet?
My predictions were better than his; in high school, I had a frequent on/off relationship with a girl who frequently either accused me of cheating or cheated. She would then date one of my friends and try to make me jealous before we would get back together about a month later.
I stopped being a damn fool, eventually, and she started dating a friend. Friend wanted to rub it in my face that he "stole my girl", if I had to guess I'd say on her order. I told him "she's done his four times before. She's dating you to make me jealous, and within 3 weeks you'll break up. Dont cry to me when she does." Was told I'm full of it, yadda yadda. Anyway, two weeks and four days later they broke up and that is s far better prediction than that dude's.
Side note: Of the 3 friends of mine she dated, she only blew up one friendship. That last one.

My argument against intelligent design has to do with the human body. Why would an intelligent designer place a waste-disposal facility right in the middle of a major recreation area? “The human body is a perfect creation!” says Ken Hamm, wearing glasses and a hearing aid. And why is it that humans are the only animals that have to wipe themselves after defecating?
A perfect design for life-forms should mean no waste at all. We should all have built-in solar cells, I'd say. If mother’s breastmilk is perfect food for babies then the babies shouldn't poop at all, right? Pulling back from solar absorption to food being designed for us the food should be 100% digested, or 99% with end product being gold dust, or something useful (fertilizer is useful to some life but not the waste-producer directly). I am living proof of unintelligent design. I was born with not one but two genetic defects. One has caused me to need open heart surgery twice and the other is causing my kidneys to fail. Co-Arctation of the aorta and polycystic kidney disease.. And if there is intelligent design, that means God created these diseases to torment humans.
I haven't been inconsistent yet, (if we use my incoherent definition of consistency)

I'm pretty sure "Jason" has called/trolled before. Both is denial of being inconsistent (or having literally just said something) and his laugh are very familiar....

Quite often the devout are devil worshipers, they're just mistaken about which character in their book is which. For example, most Christians will tell you Satan is the devil rather than Yahweh. But if "The Devil" is the bad guy... Satan's the hero of the extended universe for standing up to him.

And I don’t even believe that he ever predicted that. It sounds like a word he added after the fact to make his vague feeling work as prediction. He should write down his predictions in a notebook. Then we could actually check the reliability easily.

What if God and Satan were one like Two Face? Flipping a coin to decide a plan of action. I see that the meaning of the word "fantastic" has changed within my life time.
Predictions are nothing. I'm known to predict a lot of things very accurately. And all it was, was processing the information that I had, and knowing what the likely income was. 2 predictions, That my college would close (and that happened twice where i predicted it both times), and I also predicted my cousins death and told his mom to get ready for it. For my school, they were just horribly disorganized to the point of being unsustainable and when they reopened and tried again, they were worse, so of course they were gonna close, for my cousin, I could just tell from his mental health issues even though most others didn't see it. Predictions are just acknowleding what is right now and what are the possible next things to happen
The most common reason to believe is because parents or other adults told children it was true at very young ages and thus they where indoctrinated
It baffles me most days that it's 2024, and people believe in Gods, Magic, Fairy tales. No one can predict the future because it hasn't happen yet, and that's why there is still $ 1,000,000 prize awaiting for anyone who can, that Million will never be claimed.

So Jason makes his predictions for the people giving him a hard time that his God will either have something horribly physical happen to them or they will become his friends and his God goes with the ‘something horribly physical’ accidents option every time and Jason is totally happy with that. Maybe Jason being the great Christian he purports to be should ask God just to make these people his friends instead of causing them horrific physical pain and suffering. I’m guessing Jason has hundreds of voodoo dolls that are made in the images of all his enemies in his bedroom draw.

I'm glad I read some of the comments before I listened to the whole video. That way I minimized the further loss of neurons and IQ points caused by this caller's deluded, irrational arguments.
Part of me believes this caller is actually trolling.
I find a quick way to hone in on what flavor of christianity one is dealing with is to go through their 'credo' trinitarian? hell? salvation? etc etc.
If you follow the bible you will end up in prison.

I was really hoping for some example of his "predictions" being useful. Like his bully being in an accident, that alleged prediction did him no good. If a god did it they could have done it without giving him a prediction and the result would have been the same. The "prediction" was entirely useless. Curious if he has an example of one that was actually useful. (Not really curious, quite confident he does not because anyone is going to lead with their best example, so that was presumably what he thinks of as the most convincing prediction.)
