I love how one of the Master's voices is Jim Cummings, the voice of Winnie the Pooh. That just makes it so much better, knowing a part of the most feared antagonist in the franchise is part fluff-stuffed pooh bear.
Here’s a better way to think of it: Jim Cummings is also Dr. Robotnik in Sonic SatAM. He’s often considered the most frightening incarnation of the villain.
His aggressive voice is a perfect match for Darkwing Duck.

Are there any kind of restoration mods for the game out there?
@@thejadedeagle6729 there would be mods for this if the game was more popular but sadly, there are hardly any mods for this game as in Nexxus mods there are only 3 or 4 mods available
@@thejadedeagle6729 Yes, there are. Look for Fallout Fixt.
@@jacketbad9397 oh thanks. I don’t like going to far from nexus as a lot of shady sites and malware exist so thanks.
Wait what has been cut?
If you go for the Master first and don't kill Lou, the Master will question him about claims of infertility, and Lou will deny it, because he was keeping this revelation a secret from his Master...which, incidentally, is another flaw in the Master's vision...the masses will find a way to separate themselves, no matter what.
Also, the mutants did indeed bring the warhead to the vault, but feared using it...except, of course, as a last resort.
I always thought the Master was very intelligent or a cunning villain. The dude didn't even know his people could reproduce or not and was literally calling them up on the spot in front of a stranger who was calling them out for their blanks. The hive mind with a globalist agenda didn't think to alter the FEV or cattle humans for dipping, like, the game was cut short for sure here.
There is enough character motivation just from this aspect here branching from everything else he has going. But now to selectively harvest and grow a population of humans while trying to integrate himself and the green dudes to the rest of society without getting shot up all the time.
Or a full take over. But I guess Vault Dweller would have just shot them up anyways. So giving up to the antagonist and blowing yourself up for them is a really nice gesture from a game making stand point if you were a vigilant player and checked all the boxes before getting to the big bad.
I think the master was operating under the assuming that he was far more powerful than he was. He must've thought that if someone was lying, he could simply detect it with mind reading, and I'm sure he could for some people.
Lying to his boss really speaks to how despicable the Lieutenant is.
if only had all the ghouls in Necropolis had their own fridges to lock themselves into, they'd survive without the need for water or food ;-)

Oxhorn, can you play fallout 2 like you played fallout 1
Agreed. Fallout 2 would be awesomee
If anyone is having difficulties getting fallout 2 to start, try turning off fraps, rivatuner, or any other FPS counters/on screen displays.
It's been a while but I remember not being able to boot up fallout 2 with rivatuner active. Deactivated it and it worked perfectly
yes fallout 2 would make an equally thrilling playthrough. However the modified version with the cut content and not the vanilla game would give us more insight
Ox will eventually play Fallout 2. Ether in this or last week's episode of scotch and smoke rings he said that he got Fallout 2 to work by buying a copy from GoG. However Fallout 2 is much bigger than Fallout 1 and would have to be done in a large scale format. Since he still has to tell the main story of Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and the other 2 New Vegas factions, as well as Fallout 76, it's going to take time.
@ValorJ Omega wasn't saying right after fucking hell calm down
*FUN FACT*
The Master's male voices are all done by Jim Cummings, who also voiced a multitude of characters like Winnie the Pooh
That's a little like knowing that Mario and Paarthurnax are also voiced by the same actor. VAs can be so awesome.
Edit- btw, isn't Jim Cummings also the voice of the Tasmanian Devil?

It kinda makes me sad when I think of the fact that Harold will never know what became of Richard Grey and how he died,at least let SOMEONE from California tell Harold the story of Grey and his tragedy because in my eyes Harold never got to say goodbye to Grey as a good friend should have.
If they ever remake the first game they should totally have the option to tell Harold.
Yeah man I wish you could at least tell Richard about Harold. Letting him know he lived, that he remembers, that he continued looking for him for a time. I want Harold to know that his friend was, at least in a way, alive. At the very least I wish that you could tell Richard before he sets off the bomb himself, so that before he dies he knows that he still had a friend
That would be insanely cruel.
You want to tell Harold that his friend turned into a insane mutated monster that caused the death of hundreds if not thousands of people in horrifically gruesome manners?
It's much better that he just assume he died in that vat. You people are nuts. Harold is suffering enough already without putting that on his conscience.
@@dillongage Fair point, but I do agree with @Alex With Sauce. We should get to tell Richard his friend is still out there at least, thinking about him. Let him die/explode knowing he was remembered fondly, remembered as a human.
I remember the complete shock I experienced the first time I encountered The Master. His absolutely grotesque visage and his many voices... completely unlike any character in anything I had encountered up to that point. Then, the fact he was actually reasonable and smart to boot! Not a complete zealot!
But, I didn’t find out about his reasonable side until later as the first time I saw him was while watching my brother playing his game save. We would watch each other play to see what might be possible, bounce off ideas, things to try, etc. His character was a brute just above moron intelligence. A grunt built for strength and fighting, while my character was more agile and smart, using stealth, science, and repair most of the time. When he got to the Master, both of us flipped out and our reaction was “KILL IT!!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!” Thankfully with that out of our systems, it allowed me to explore other possible ways of approaching The Master without total panic overtaking me like how we both reacted the first time. Fallout was the first game that I ever played that had more than one way to “beat” the game, let alone introduce the concept that you don’t need to even attack the “final boss” in the game in order to win!

Yeah must have confusing back then if you play fallout 2 and it mentions things that you could't have done because it was cut.
This is due of the endings being tied to content that was cut from the game in a hurry (so they didn't clean te variables tied to these quests as well).
@Jak: NNot reaally for two reasons, really. The ending where you kill Jacoren happens automatically with the bloody mess perk or if you kill too many good karma characters and children. You basically throw everything you've done for the vault away by killing him in a bout of unchecked emotional rage. That shit had me so shook. Just shows what the horrors of the Fallout world can do to a character when everyone you see dies brutally or if you become a murderous psychopath.
However you ironically prove Jacoren right by killing him as it’s evident that you’ve become a psychopath. Sad the canon vault dweller wasn’t and was kicked out of his home.

Lord Patriarcus neat
I wouldn't say the Master is completely evil, I think he just lost touch with his humanity. I would go so far as to say he's an anti-hero, someone who does bad things for a good cause (matter of perspective). He believes he is genuinely saving the human race by turning them into super mutants. If he was so evil I don't think he'd kill himself after learning his super mutants are infertile, he can't face the fact that all his efforts were for nothing and would rather die than continue a fools quest. I think his story is quite a tragic one.
ehhh anti-heroes don't commit genocide via sterilizeation and rave about a master race
That's why I said "I would go so far as to say he's an anti hero" and that it's a matter of perspective. Anti-heroes do do morally bad things for morally good reasons though. In the case of the Master he wanted to create a unified world to stop the potential of another great war and to make the new world prosper, he has lost touch with his humanity and thinks of things too logically, combined with his God complex. I think it shows that he isn't a villain in that he'd rather die than continue to live after realising that all his efforts to try to bring about true peace and prosperity has been all for naught, that through changing people into super mutants he has just marched them into extinction, the exact opposite of what he was trying to achieve through his unity. I look at him in a similar way to Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. But again, it's a matter of perspective.
Joshua Newey fair but I just can't call him that cause his ego causes hm to go genocidal preaching his master race and most importantly his plan to prevent a great war is to cause one and kill any who disagree with him he's an ass who goes to bs extremes and don't forget if you taunt him over the fact his mutants can't breed he tries to murder you so still a prick to the end also when you prove him wrong he blows himself and potentially you up
edit: so either way he's trying to fuck you over or just straight up doesn't care
Well the story of the east coast muties is really sad no one to guide them no way to reproduce naturaly. Just wanting to do what basic instinct they have. Survive, and reproduce. Finding new vaults for more fev to reproduce, their waters of life. 😥

Thanks for this playthrough, Oxhorn, and good luck with Fallout 2. That's a much bigger piece to swallow.
You are correct and I believe this is one reason why New Vegas is considered the pinnacle of Fallout games. New Vegas showed you could have the choices and consequences, replay ability of Fallout & Fallout 2 with the 3D world and shooting/melee action of Fallout 3. Of course their was a lot of people who worked on Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 Van Buren that worked on New Vegas.
I wonder if that is why Bethesda won't allow anyone else to touch the IP now. They got one-upped so hard that their egos were a bit bruised.
Heh heh
@Floofie kun Fallout where kinda doomed before bethesda got the ip. They already had made the mediocre fallout tactics and the trainwreck that was Fallout Brotherhood of Steel. Now we just need to see who will save the series for a 3rd time.

But we know that the Overseers plan to isolate the Vault and exile you fails, as a bunch of Vault Dwellers catch up to him/her and they go and found Auroyyo (sorry about the spelling).
@e C its not that the vault dweller wouldn't tell them to go, its that his presence alone is proof enough that with a good head on your shoulders and proper survival skills, its possible to survive outside the vault. Even if the vault dweller told the others of encounters with the BoS or the wastelanders or the many monsters that roam around, it'll probably still give people this sense of wanderlust and make them want to see the world outside and how its changed.

I love Fallout 1. It was my first real RPG (I had played mostly adventure and action games up till that time)
I love the story. It is so deep and so rich it puts a lot of modern RPGs to shame. Actually it puts almost all of them to shame. (The Witcher series being an exception)
One reason for this was the depth of dialogue which is simply too cost prohibitive for games where every character is voiced. Because a lot of the time dialog is either not unique, or is a generic line. In New Vegas I got so tired of listening to "The NCR took Nelson, maybe they can win this war" I wanted to go camp in a Cazador nest just so I wouldn't have to hear it. Seriously, they're all saying the exact same words with the same exact toneless inflection. I love New Vegas, but, I got really really really tired of that sort of thing. And its not limited to New Vegas.
Another thing I loved about Fallout 1 was that you could find clues to the main quest(s) all over the wasteland. Almost every place you visit had information pertaining to it. This kept the main storyline alive. I have a real problem with a lot of modern RPGs trying to care about the main quest(s). Either the devs make the world too damned big and everything becomes a fetch quest, or the main quest just isn't interesting enough to hold my attention. Devs really need to go back to Fallout 1&2 and look at their quest structure. Fallout's world wasn't that huge (in number of locations) but, was very deep. These guys knew how to design a quest and keep you on track without keeping the player on rails.
Yes, in Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and New Vegas, every location informs your understanding of the setting and story a bit better. They never feel like a jumble of isolated quests and locations, unlike Bethesda's games.
@@Thagomizer yet the bethesda games remain more popular, and bring in more sales. seriously, just look at fallout 4... probably the game that got the most people into fallout , and the sales, oh the sales...
Can't wait for the fallout 2. I hope you use the version where all the cut content is restored.
The Restoration patch also allows for something like 100 savegame slots, which would be extremely useful for Oxhorn's purposes.
pick up that can.
You know, I didn't realize it until now - but the whole "One People, One Race" speech is almost a direct translation of some of Hitler's speeches. It doesn't cheapen the experience. It only makes it creepier.
That's what makes a true villain, doesn't it? That reason could become so twisted? Maybe that's why we're seeing so much social friction recently.
Though the Enclave fits the Hitler analogy much better. The master didn't wanted to exterminate Humans, he merely wanted to convert them unlike the Nazis or The Enclave who straight up said: "Kill Jews/Mutans, Genocide good." Without any logic to support that reasoning.
I love the voice actors they got for the master, they did such a good job and the master will always be my favorite villain I any fallout game
Every time I hear the Master's final response dialogue it hits me hard. Hope Indeed.
I realize now that the master basically thinks the human race is completely doomed without his plan working. He basically thinks "Well, that's it then. Without my super mutants, the human race is doomed to fight itself till we go extinct." Which actually is kinda what's happening in all the other fallout games. The whole "war never changes" thing. When he tells you to leave, he basically thinks you're ignorant to this hard truth. He realizes that humanity is doomed. There is...no hope.

I really hope future Fallout games have more inhuman threats like Fallout 1
Fallout 1: two extremely cool mutants. Fallout 2: the coolest enclave character. Fallout 3 some dude in a coat. (Cool voice though). Fallout NV: "Yes man, please throw general Oliver off the dam." Fallout 4 some old dude in a bed.
Every time u mentioned the master in this series the song master if puppets got stuck in my head... MASTER MASTER
Hahahah! +1
It sounds exactly like that
With the best villains, there's always a moment when you find yourself thinking, "You know, dude's got a point." The Master was the first to take me to that moment. Later there was Eden, and Caesar. But first there was the Master.
House is, at worst, an anti hero. Dude isn't a villian
Robert house more like....
I can't think of anything funny
@@wulftheghost You're right, more antagonist depending on which route you're taking. He's certainly willing to manipulate you to further his plans though, same as with the others.
@@Keleigh3000 what is his manipulation attempt though? House are pretty honest, boldly honest.
@@akundaruratkalalupa9710 True, perhaps "use" would be a better term. To House you're just another tool in his toolbox, like the tribes of New Vegas and his robot army.
Here's a random idea:
Fallout 1 for Switch! Lol
Idk Fallout 1&2 are the kinda games that can only really work on pc. I'd be down for a remake though that made the controls similiar to the newer games (as in you control the character directly instead of clicking where you want them to go) but kept the topdown perspective, with the same or atleast similar artstyle/mechanics.
@@thepastasalt2278 mutant year zero is kind of like that, the game switches to turn based after the enemies spot you, makes sneaking around more intuitive
¡YEA!
@@thepastasalt2278 However, i wouldn't like the new graphics, the upscale would be greater than the new looks. It'll look super shiny and bloom which will ruin the point of the dark desolate world. Less bloom and brightness would seriously describe how we hate the waste-land how it looks.
2 years late here but if they made this into a mobile game I would totally play it
Oxhorn I finished this and plan on starting Fallout 2 tonight. Keep up the good work. It was nice to remember this old game. I beat it ....decades ago...
I remember playing this game when It came out, many many years ago, and meeting the master was one of the most shocking thing i experienced as a gamer
How old were you when it came out?

Master reminds me of a movie “the thing” watch it if you haven’t, anyway can’t wait for fallout 2 series
Great narration. Games from this time period were so damn brutal. Kinda like “I have no mouth and I must scream” and other point and click games.
the Master is such a GOOD and DYNAMIC villain and he’s so well written. after i played this i read all about him on the wiki and it was incredibly heart wrenching
"Fallout was brought to you by Interplay Productions, Team Fallout, and the Letter 'O'."
O for Oxhorn?! *THEY KNEW EVEN THEN*
I like your comment, but it was the letter Q in the credits. Sorry :(
Still my two most favorite games of all time. Another neat one is Arcanum. The base system is very similar to that of the original Fallout games, but with a Steampunk/fantasy story behind it and made by many of the people behind Fallout. It was a buggy mess, as well as having a few gameplay issues, but most of that has been fixed by the community. Great game, worth a look. It was what I played while we were all waiting for what was to be Fallout 3(The Van Buren one, not Bethesda's version.) to be released.
I loved Arcanum :) and several Fallout references in it too.
I really liked how, while talking about the endings, you played the music track from the area that was being talked about at the time.
Should've got James hetfield to say "MASTER! MASTER!"
Wow...the Master has to be one of the most revolting, disturbing, and scary creatures I have ever seen. Well done, Black Isle Studios.
the master is somewhat right,on one part he says as long there are differnces we will tear each other apart, i forshadows the rest of the fallout games, like ghoals, synths and mutants and even racists humans, even the wars with the facts in new vegas and fallout 4
Humanity has always advanced over the victims of its individualism. We have war but just because we refuse to accept that said individualism can be a chance to multiply our odds by interlinking and allowing it to compound on itself, to finally push us forward, instead of constantly dividing us. When we grow humble enough to accept our way is not necessarily the best way we can progress standing on peace. Ant colonies work well because they all have one goal and no individualism, but because of it no ant colony will ever build a spacecraft and reach another planet.
No thats an excuse so racism between nightkin and muties isent real, gen1 gen 2 muties, no war war never changes just like mans inability to accept all and change ones ways more like his weather it means sly words extortion or violence. To attempt to make peace is like attempting to become God's. And god dont play that shit and thats why muties have no willies between those green hairless legs.
true but untill everyone decides to aeccpt each ohters ideals belifes, and put in end to the racism, humaninty in the fallout series will be destroyed like in 2077, people like the brotherhood od steel that follows the maxson beleifs and the ones that support the lyons beliefs would one day go to war in the future fallout game like fallout 5.
Thank you Oxhorn! You just wrapped up what was a life changing game for me. The game that started it all, the game that brought all of us here today. The game that spawned the stories and entertainment that encapsulated days, months, and years of our lives... It has been a wonderfully nostalgic walk down memory lane. I truly can't thank you enough for all of your wonderful content!
I love The Master. I think he is one of the most interesting characters
The first Fallout is my absolute favorite in the series and to see you cover it in SO much detail is so satisfying, thank you Oxhorn for this brilliant set of videos!
Thank you so much for making this series! Amazon has now taken on the job of creating a fall out TV series. And they have actually started filming where I live. So that is why I have been so interested in finding out what the fallout franchise was all about. And thanks to your videos I have a newfound respect for this franchise. Now onto your fall out 2 video series!
What vault do you live in???
Hey Oxhorn are you gonna play Fallout 2 with the restoration project patch? since that basically fixes glitches with alot of events/choices/paths. Which made it impossible to get the good endings for alot of things. Plus re-adding content that was basically finished and was cut out of the game.
Hey, Oxhorn! I just interviewed the creators of Fallout: Miami. I thought you might be interested.
Oxhorn knows how to keep you coming back. And he dose it better the any show on AMC.
Scott Drahos It's the voice and delivery. He'd make an amazing radio host imo
Mark Sui Bethesda needs to hire him for fallout 5 to be the raido host.
YES oxhorn radio, I would love that I would only listen to that had be like the storyteller, would be also cool if he could be a companion
tristen pernell I was thinking the story teller too! Hopefully they hire them
Scott Drahos I would literally fight in the bloodiest war, lose all my limbs and come back with ptsd to hear Ox in the next Fallout game!
UgHHHHhhh, I binged this series SO HARD, it was always so exciting to play the next one in the series and see where the story goes!! Such an amazing end to an amazing game!
Thanks so much Oxhorn! I really love your videos and appreciate your hard work, you're such a marvelous storyteller!!
Ok mary
Ox that must've required so much patience recording each of the dozens of ending clips...thank you for this.
The Master is voiced by Winnie The Pooh
Oh bother, I've been turned into a hideous freak of nature in my search for honey.
Oh bother I am now stuck in the intrance of this weird honey factory
Let's get Dangerous...
Besides the Fallout Fixit patch for Fallout, their is also a patch for Fallout 2. The Steam and GOG versions nowadays have changed a lot of things in both games. In Fallout 2 in a certain town, their is supposed to be children who can pick pocket you. In the Steam and GOG versions currently, the children are not visible but you will see their text and be pick pocketed possibly. The Fallout 2 patch at No Mutants Allowed fixes this and many other issues. I don't remember the name of the patch but it's not hard to find. I believe the changes to children, attacking children and thus becoming a child killer if you kill enough, came after Bethesda bought the IP and reintroduced them back on Steam and GOG.
Combine a legendary voice and the best goddamn games ever made you got a Perfect Blend buddy cheers!
I love putting on your videos while I'm at work for some background entertainment. It was awesome coming back to work from parental leave with the entire series available to watch!
Random fact, I work with one of the guys in that credits list.
And I now hate the Overseer
What a great series! You really did a fantastic job of bringing the origin story of our favorite post apocalyptic world to life. By doing so, you helped to bring unity to new and old generations of Fallout fans. Oxhorn is truly the master of story telling!
2000 views in 15 minutes congrats
Another outstanding series Oxhorn. 👍🏻
Yeet
omg, the ending to letting the overseer live when it comes to the backround canon is amazing, i loved that when i heard oxhorn inform us that it actually happened, way to go vault 13 population, 10/10 best vault ever.
the master looks like when Cartman fused with his traper keeper in south park
Fallout 2 please
Its the fallout game that i know least about.
Thank you so much! As someone who missed out on fO1/2 and loves the lore... your in-depth walk-through and story telling was amazing.
REALLY Hope to see a walk-through of FO2.
Ox, give us a series on Fallout 2. This was without a doubt your best content yet!
4:02 The master has the ability to also speak [SPAMTON!] Meaning spamton's broken voice is a reference to the master.
I got Jim Cummings to sign my jewel case of Fallout 1. Such a sweet guy, he was delighted to sign something he didn’t even remember doing 😂
(Spoilers?) I love how when the overseer betrayed him youtube suddenly recommended Oxhorn playing ''Rage''.
Oxhorn, can you go back and do the NCR ending to FNV? You have a series of videos on the Legion, Yes Man, and House endings, but never had one for the NCR.
I just realized the Master's motives and methods are pretty similar to that of Mithos from Tales of Symphonia. How they came to their conclusions are different, but the results of their insanity is the same.
Honestly the story of the Vault Dweller is truly heroic. He emerges into a destroyed world alone and clueless, discovers the world, helps others to find the chip, then discovers a huge threat, tackles it and heads home to be exiled from all he knew and loved. Fallout 1 is truly under rated. Its a brilliant RPG
I cannot wait for you to do Fallout 2 lore especially when it comes to Frank Horrigan. Keep up the amazing work, Oxhorn ^^
