I have a 2 person RTT on a short bed Tacoma which works for 90% of my use, but thinking of adding one of these for sleeping 2 more in the bed in a pinch.

I'd like to see a topper like A.R.E.s Walk-In-Door topper with a pop top like FWCs. That would be very light, quick to deploy and roomy.

Can you imagine this on the chevy avalanche?... full camper experience on a normal truck...

I saw these guys at Expo East their first year out. They said the biggest challenge was getting the linear actuators (worm gears) to lift evenly.

I found them on instagram a while ago. I've really been thinking about doing a single cab short bed half ton truck with this. With the lift, you can have a fridge, drawers, and your bed. Lowpro when traveling and up when needed.

In my opinion a single cab full size or dbl cab midsize with a topper is the absolute most ideal setup. I like suv because you can sleep in back but I don't like the flex causing issues long term (i.e. squeaks, rattles etc) a truck frame eliminates that. With a topper you can sleep in the back and enjoy the same security.

@@SirWilliamGoes this solves the headroom problem but still doesn't cure the reason i went back to SUV from truck/shell which is space. there's no room to put anything because the whole area is a mattress when you're sealed up in there on a cold night. if you need to get something just like in my regular shell you'd have to put shoes on, get dressed, open the door and let any heat you've accumulated out etc. i suppose you could get an arm between the end of this mattress and the tent door but you wouldn't be able to get a drink out of the cooler. the major thing in an SUV is the openness to the front seats and the huge space up there to put stuff. also i've gotten to Moab at 3:00am after a 9hr drive through a blizzard and it's awesome being connected. everything (including my sleeping bag) is warm, get undressed, go back and hop in, done.
all that being said this thing does seem sweet and i would've loved it over what i had on the Ranger.

Great idea, and I considered it but the side walls of that tent configuration drop inside the bed rails and are only attached with Velcro so what happens when it rains? That water runs down the side of the tent fabric and right into the bed with you. Not such a great idea now.

oh yeah I can see that being an issue. Maybe this year at Expo I can ask them about that.

I have not had any issues like this with mine. But, I could always just lower all the way.

Will it work on a '93 Ford Bronco?

    • @SirWilliamGoes

I imagine it will work with anything with a topper but you will have to reach out to them to see

thats fun and all, but is rendered useless if one of those worm gears takes a shit while trying to raise or lower in cold icy snowy weather. you can bet your ass it will ice up in icy snowy conditions while you are sleeping. all it takes is a little humidity inside while you are sleeping, metal will sweat and boom frozen.

Man you gotta good point. Could you just warm them up with a heater or water I wonder

@@SirWilliamGoes Im sure you could, but depending on the materials run the risk of rusting later

@@UncleElroy21 those a really good points that you bring up and thank you for taking the time to point them out. this particular system may not be suitable for extremely cold conditions if that is the case.
