For those looking to buy the topper kit:
1 It's very nice materials. The lift kit plus the "tent" kit are both very nice, high quality, well machined.
2 The paper directions leave much to be desired. Like many modern kits, they kind of expect you to go online to find directions and help. I have a Tacoma in it somehow is slightly different than many other of the midsize trucks. But with a few modifications and watching several other install videos comment we made it work without too much trouble.
3 There's a lot of stuff with this kit. It's not unmanageable but it will take you a long time if you don't have some basic mechanical skills. And it's much easier with a second person. Not impossible alone but it will be frustrating unless you have some serious equipment for getting your canopy on and off and running wires through a vehicle by yourself.
4 It raises your topper to just under standing height. I think this is known so no biggie but I just need a couple more inches of headroom! While this kit is great for me being just under standing height feels somehow disappointing.

Brilliant. This, combined with your tent/camper package, would be idea for a home on the road while traveling that will allow a person to get into the back country. Less expensive than an off road trailer and more stable then a heavy truck camper. Cheers

Good video, makes installation look easy. I'm thinking of ordering a set for my truck because it would make loading bulky items a breeze. I'm a little confused about the decal though, in the beginning you said you'd get back to it, but you never did explain it. Where should it go?

A couple of areas of concern for me;
1. The brackets connect to the topper, that means holes in fiberglass unless you have metal topper. That presents an area of weakness in my mind, what happens if the glass breaks at those points? I would say there need to be supports at least underneath the glass running the length of the topper. This leads to second concern,
2. Holes equal potential leaks. In viewing this kit (great idea), I would have to note that there is a gap underneath between topper and truck bed side now, this allows yet another potential leak spot. Would require a better seal than just tape I would think…be interesting to see if mods could be made here to ensure no leaks…
3. When topper is elevated, if using a Weekender or Contractor package, if raining, where does the rain water running off the topper and tent sides flow to? If into the bed, that sucks! I would suggest having a sewn on waterproof material same as tent material that would hang over the bed so water simply runs off the topper and tent onto the ground vice into the truck bed.
For the style camping I do, this setup would be the perfect solution for me. For now I have the 3 concerns and until addressed and fixed or I figure out a way to fix them myself, want to spend the money and get it, but cannot justify it as currently is.
If it's raining does the topper camper package when up keep the rain out in all four sides ?

When using the level for vertical alignment, be sure the truck is level to begin with.
Will it, the tent siding, work with a Leer 122? On a 2015. Ford f150 xlt super cab 6.5 bed? Which package would recommend?

if anyone is watching the video for install tips... the "topper tape" sucks. Get some good sealing rubber. Mine didn't last 2 months before replacing.

What is the topper tape for?
JRAFishing Outdoors To seal the bed to the cap so it won't leak I assume.
So the only thing holding your topper down is some double sided tape and a self tapping screw?
Or do you lock lock the upper bracket to the actuators somehow?
My concern as well. Going off the video it looks like just a few self-tappers... I'd at least like to see those changed out for a sturdy bolt on each corner...
James; I ended up building my own lift. I have a Toyota Tacoma with the composite bed . I put two 1/4” bolts in each bracket with a fender washer under the bed. Tied it into the OEM bed rail at the top with some conduit hanging parts. I can’t speak for this lift but the actuators I used would not be sturdy enough to have up in the wind. I only raise my topper to load a power wheelchair. Hope this helps.

No I don’t, sorry. I bought my actuators from Amazon. I used 13/16” Unistrut and brackets from the big box store (Menards). The top bracket is tied into the rails that came in the Tacoma. It takes a double pole double throw momentary switch to make the actuators go both ways.
How does it stand up to wind?
I mean, the loft/stands.
The hydraulics are very strong, as far as the camper staying in place under high winds. I don't know about the tent but I have this hydraulic kit on my camper and it is super solid. I have no doubt that you could drive at freeway speeds in the up position. Probably not recommended though.
@@CalvinHikes I have one of those swing out toolboxes that conforms to the shape of the wheel well and sits on the side of the truck bed interior. Will that get in the way or do you think I could install the topperlift with only 3 struts?

oh come on, nothing ever stands up to dust. I have lived in the south west for the last 20 years and i've given up trying. i used to love glass shelves and a glass tv stand.
It will stand up to dust exactly the same as a regular camper. It depends on how well you seal it in the down position.
I swear a newer canopies seem to keep out the dust less well than older canopies.

My kit was sent without instructions. Trying to do the install by swapping back and forth between this crap video and a pdf version of instructions. Lacy, you seem to be glazing over some install steps.
While I'm looking forward to utilizing this product, I have found this install process to be very frustrating.
I agree completely, I'm having the same issue. Multiple attempts to get their "Customer Service" to mail the instructions have resulted in nothing. Not impressed thus far. So are we supposed to unplug the brake light everytime we raise the topper or figure out some sort of brake light extension of our own?
