This is the family that inspired Machiavelli to write his classic on politics "The Prince". Here is a family who understood power intimately and knew how to wield it effectively. In an age of intrigue, deceit, passion, treachery, and violence these individuals came close to uniting all of Italy into a kingdom that was divided into rival mafia style territories by the petty ambitions of the Orsinis, the Sforzas, the Viscontis and the Medicis. Showtime has here an excellent recipe for Emmies.
I will watch this for Borgias. Have few books about them in my bookshelf. One of the most interesting families in the whole world. Others being Habsburg and Romanov. Maybe even Medici.
Beautiful show and the only reason I subscribed to Showtime. I wish the network would re-consider filming the final chapter of the story with the original actors.
Thank you Borgia family, as through your vile, corrupt & disgusting reign, you set the wheels of the Protestant reformation in motion & 500 years later We Catholics today are still paying for Your sins!
Oh give it a rest, religion was invented to give certain people power over the rest of the people, playing on their fears and hopes, exploiting the lack of knowledge about weather and nature of the common man back then. You'd think that since everyone nowdays who has access to the internet has a pretty much limitless supply of information at their fingertips, and shouldnt have to believe that the world is as it is because a man gave up a rib thousands of years ago, and a talking snake tricked a woman into eating a apple...
Yes - hope fully this will allay Tudors withdrawal - but we have to wait sooo long! Jeremy Irons is fabulous. One of my fav actors. He is gonna rock it!
i'm a huge fan of the tudors. and pillars of the earth. and david oakes. AND TREVOR MORRIS'S MUSIC. since this fits into the same type of categories as pillars and tudors, i am SO excited for this. CAAAAAAAN'T WAITTTTT :D
Somehow slept on this show and just accidentally stumbled upon it and, yes, Jeremy is completely accurate - it blew my socks off! If you're contemplating watching - DO IT! But a word of advice - in order to fully appreciate the show, pay attention. It's not something you can watch in the background while scrolling through your phone or doing dishes. @Showtime, it's a crime you cancelled this show!!! 🤬
@brendandarcy : No, the costumes will be other ones. Because the story takes place in the 15th century, and not the 16th. Also the Italian style of clothing was different from the English or French. So I'm pretty sure they won't use (or little) costumes from The Tudors and Elizabethan movies.
@sergejisd Rodrigo Borgia (Borja, actually) was from what was then the Kingdom of Aragon, in Spain. His more famous children, Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia, were born of a Roman mistress.
This is going to be good I can tell. Now all I have to do is read about the Borgia family before the show airs instead of learning history from a tv screen which is what people my age do today for the most part!
In the 0:17, 0:23, 0:25, 0:55, 1:32 second there are scenes of The Tudors opening. OMG Jeremy Irons in The Borgias, he's a great actor, so this series will be as great as The Tudors.
Since the Tudors I think showtime's and other channels want to revive other famous historical characters that I agree are interesting to study. I HAVE LIKED THE TUDORS AND i SEE TEHY ARE REVIVING SOME OF THE TUDORS in the new series. I can't wait and the fact jeremy irons is going to interpret rodrigo borgia I am going to see it, but I know that they are going to take creative license since the tudors took a lot of that!
@itsibitsispiderUSMC Sorry to disappoint but quite alot of the wardrobe came from previous series of The Tudors and from other film sets so it will most likely be used again by Ardmore Studios or sold to other production companies. As for props, what can't be reused has long ago been dispatched of. I would have loved to have given a home to some of those fibreglass replica statues...
@TaliaG999 Borgia is Tom Fontana's child. Hirschbiegel is just a director, which in television means almost nothing. The writers are king on the small screen and Fontana created it. But yeah, Borgia does look pretty awesome.
The Godfather was based on Augustus and Tiberius--the first two Roman emperors. The existing version of the Borgias is nearly perfect--all they need to do is replay that, not make something that is evidently going to try to pass off Baroque Rome as existing in the 1490s (nice to see the 18th century observatory on top of one of the locations).. The 50,000 people who watched this should watch the full Borgias on UA-cam, the only place its available.
@orodriguezarrutia You're misinterpreting what they said about the Godfather. Actually, in the Godfather part III, Michael Corleone exclaims " The Borgias!" in reference to the corrupt Clergy. Wiki also says that The Borgias were Valencian (Spanish)-Italian noble family. In the description of Christopher Hibbert's biography of the Borgias, it says that through marriage, bribery & nepotism they rose from their relatively humble Spanish roots to become one of the most powerful clans in Italy.
When the BBC made "The Borgias" miniseries in the early 1980s, Rodrigo Borgia (Pope Alexander VI) was played by the late Adolfo Celi, of James Bond "Thunderball" villainy. His relative unfamiliarity with English and broad Sicilian accent didn't do the production any favors.
@sergejisd I agree with you, but would have to take this course to make a series better. As for example in The Tudors, the actress who played the first wife of Henry was a good choice for what I say, she really had the characteristic features for her character. Jeremy Irons is a great actor, that I particularly like, but he has nothing to do with Rodrigo Borgia by physical appearance. Anyway this will be an extremely good series.
True Catholic holier than all the saints you have not already canonized Well you this omission Catholics is your icon and an example of a worthy role model
I am a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed and I want to know everything about this family and about the italian renaissance. Yep, because of the game, but I'm still curious. I watched the first episode and I liked it.
@BytheseaMrTodd agreed i think they shouldve kept going with edward andmary (cause the director of the tudors already has done elizabeth, cate blanchett starred in both flims)
I feel so out of place haha. Everyone here is like older than me I bet and here I am watching these shows that I'm addicted to and surprisingly understand. I'm going miss the tudors but they should have added more like for the golden age of queen Elizabeth, the bloody Mary, or henry's son. Although I am looking forward to the borgias, and when I was playing Assassins creed 2, they had rodrigo in their and if you see assassins creed brotherhood, it talks more about the borgias family
Wow... Scarce attendance in history class, huh? They were a pretty famous bunch (the Borgia family) even before Assassin's Creed. Lots of books and stuff written about them... This guy (Pope Alexander the VI th) is one of the most notorious popes in history and Lucrezia is one of the most famous women of that time, for various reasons.
@JuliaLeigh711 This show has a multi-million dollar budget. I'm sure it can afford to actually SHOOT new scenes rather than use old footage from a show set in a completely different time period. They should've waited until they actually shot footage to start promoting it.
Cant wait to see.... im sure it will be fantastic... some gore along the way will be fun...Eg tortutre/Executions....... Can someone do a re-make of the Tv Mini Series... PETER THE GREAT......
@MrPijavica I want to read a lot of books, but I have to wait until summer.. because I live in Hungary and nobody wanted to translate a damn book of this family / or the renaissance. But in the summer there will be some new books, and I am going to buy them. And I know, that The Pope and Irons are two different worlds but I am interested about the family and not the actors.
i think this will be a good show... as for a continue to the Tudors.. i agree..... johanathan rhys myres could do some cameos as a ghostly king henry.... another show id love to see back on tv or as a remake is Peter the Great... that was a very good show....
When this comes out and gets popular, I want all fantards to know Francois Arnaud has been MAI HUSBAND for like 2 years already so hands off lololololo. Ok not really but I can't wait to see him on American TV, this is great, he IS that talented.
I cant believe I watched this for the first time in 2021.. Please make season 4. thank you
Tell your friends
Well I'm just now about to watch it in February 2022.🤷♀️🤦♀️ Lol
I cried when it was cancelled… as Roman Catholic I loved it
I miss this show so much... Please please PLEASE make a season 4!
I don't think it's gonna happen.
Great show! I love Jeremy Irons, wish it would've continued.
Cesare was the real Prince
i think the Borgias also inspired G.R.R martin to write the Lannisters.
I also love the Tudors and can't wait for the Borgias!
I have seen a Spanish Movie named The borgias about this family and I can tell you This family was a real mafia. Cant wait to see it on Showtime!!!
You really need to make a season 4..... honestly.
I will watch this for Borgias. Have few books about them in my bookshelf.
One of the most interesting families in the whole world. Others being Habsburg and Romanov. Maybe even Medici.
Im watching it in 2024 great show. I loved the cast of Caesar, Lucrezia and Alexandre. They run the show for me.
Oh trespass sweet the urge - give me my historical drama NOW! I cannot wait to see Irons as Rodrigo Borgia.
Beautiful show and the only reason I subscribed to Showtime. I wish the network would re-consider filming the final chapter of the story with the original actors.
This show was so slept on it should be a crime
It came out the same year as Game of Thrones.
Very unfortunate timing.
I'm intrigued by the Borgia family because of the Assassin's Creed series... It will be interesting to see the differences in their portrayal.
Great show. Best portrayal of human greed, insanity, gullible beings, unnecessary complexity, hunger for power.
with great stories like the house of Borgias,Tudors and Medici. Please tell me, are there any other dynasties like those?
I hear Jeremy Irons and I just picture Scar from the Lion King. Be Prepared!!!
this is going to be amazing. i can't wait
Thank you Borgia family, as through your vile, corrupt & disgusting reign, you set the wheels of the Protestant reformation in motion & 500 years later We Catholics today are still paying for Your sins!
Religion is the past.
There are stains in every religion and faith. I am a Catholic and feel no different, just ashamed there was so much vile behavior in Gods house.
dkfavs Exactly, religion is outdated.
Well I did not mean that I am very religious and proud to be a Catholic!!!!!!!!
why no season 4..?
Amazing show, no idea why it was canceled...
Yes - hope fully this will allay Tudors withdrawal - but we have to wait sooo long!
Jeremy Irons is fabulous. One of my fav actors. He is gonna rock it!
Where is season 4......why why....I'm so sad :(
i'm a huge fan of the tudors. and pillars of the earth. and david oakes. AND TREVOR MORRIS'S MUSIC.
since this fits into the same type of categories as pillars and tudors, i am SO excited for this. CAAAAAAAN'T WAITTTTT :D

@Showtime, it's a crime you cancelled this show!!! 🤬
I was in this movie extras. It was nice: D
@brendandarcy :
No, the costumes will be other ones.

Also the Italian style of clothing was different from the English or French.
So I'm pretty sure they won't use (or little) costumes from The Tudors and Elizabethan movies.
Jeremy Irons is so classy
Oh, so this has nothing to do with Assasins Creed Brotherhood except the Borgias history.
@sergejisd
Rodrigo Borgia (Borja, actually) was from what was then the Kingdom of Aragon, in Spain. His more famous children, Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia, were born of a Roman mistress.
This is going to be good I can tell. Now all I have to do is read about the Borgia family before the show airs instead of learning history from a tv screen which is what people my age do today for the most part!
will the borgias be in english? because some of the trailers i saw were in spanish...
@JONIMASAKIS from what tree did you fall?
It looks amazing! But what's with all the random footage from the starting titles of 'The Tudors' doing in there?
Is the intro song Trevor Morris?
In the 0:17, 0:23, 0:25, 0:55, 1:32 second there are scenes of The Tudors opening.

@orodriguezarrutia It's a family from spain, but most of what takes place is in Rome am i right?
@Ogilla is that reallly your last name?
@kt32133 the song on the feature trailer is "Jillian (I'd Give My Heart)" by Within Temptation
Nice trailer and I hope that series comes out soon. The Borgias sort of remind me of an early Mafia.
I would have loved to have given a home to some of those fibreglass replica statues...
please please please film season 4. i love the borgias!!!!!!!!
It's amazing!!! The Borgias... Very interesting!
Watching this for the first time 2022🥶
Is there a release date? I really can't wait!!
0:19-20 is the Tudors they did the same with Margaret and Anne's neck:0
Where is ezzio auditorie?
@TaliaG999 Borgia is Tom Fontana's child. Hirschbiegel is just a director, which in television means almost nothing. The writers are king on the small screen and Fontana created it. But yeah, Borgia does look pretty awesome.
im shocked this show didn't have sucess it looks really good
@Albagr88 there are so many talented British and American actors of Spanish and Italian heritage who deserved to star in this series.

In which episode does Ezio kill him?
And they were from Valencia.
Yeah but gladly the Borgias produced 1 saint: Saint Francis Borgia. A single flower in the midst of weeds.
borgia based on novel of the writer of tha godfather or...?who was lucrecia?
@squamish4244 I agree. People love to see how deep a person can fall into oblivion. Villains are the most interesting characters.
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!
I can't wait for this. Jeremy Irons is
I smell Emmy's.
i will watch although nothing will ever replace the love of my life JRM and the tudors
Una historia muy intensa e interesante y con gran presupuesto, promete ser una digna sucesora de los Tudor, además JEremy Irons es excelente actor!!!
@TheHouseofADA and judging from your super articulate reply so is english class, right? :D
Nii meidän perhe 😮
I hope it will be as good as The Tudors!
@sergejisd I agree with you, but would have to take this course to make a series better. @tiadejo Lucrecia was a very naughty daughter of pope Rodrigo Borgia, it will be interesting to see which actress will they choose for her character.
@WinstonFisher seems like you're one of the few around here!
Jeremy Irons could be the monster that lives under my bed, offer to read Me bedtime stories and I'd thank him. 😂
I seriously hope this is more historically accurate than Assassin's Creed.
Ezio Auditore joined the chat
Wait... De Medicis were rivals of the Borgias?!
This only gets more and more interesting!
I feel so out of place haha. Everyone here is like older than me I bet and here I am watching these shows that I'm addicted to and surprisingly understand. @sestsa both very talented
Look's fantastic :) can't wait!
@littledustball Ezio is a fictional character from the game, he will probably not be incorporated to this show.
Wow... Scarce attendance in history class, huh? They were a pretty famous bunch (the Borgia family) even before Assassin's Creed. Lots of books and stuff written about them... Do you know that the Borgias were real?
Lucrecia Borgia was the daughter of Pope Alexander VI, Rodrigo de Borja, from Valencia.
Cant wait to see.... im sure it will be fantastic... some gore along the way will be fun...Eg tortutre/Executions.......
Can someone do a re-make of the Tv Mini Series... PETER THE GREAT......
Disgustingly beautiful.
Me gustaba tanto está serie
Now all that's left to make is The Medicis...
Cesare is the most ruthless, sexiest, most handsome man in history. :)
who will play ezio?!
I would like to see this series aired in Italy, but the power of Vatican will not allow that.
@HConstantine No i was just stating that borgia was a bad guy in a video you may not care but someone else might
I'm a Borgia. Fear me
Okay at Jeremy Irons I'm done. Already Watching it!
1:46-1:48 Tudors again
@MrPijavica I want to read a lot of books, but I have to wait until summer.. because I live in Hungary and nobody wanted to translate a damn book of this family / or the renaissance. I can't hear his voice without thinking of Scar from The Lion King.
cant wair

Ok not really but I can't wait to see him on American TV, this is great, he IS that talented.
