This BEAUTIFUL display of aero and design really caught our attention as soon as it rolled off the trailer. We we’re glad to see it pull out to the starting line to stretch its legs down the airstrip of Rantoul Aviation Center for Omega Motorsport’s NoFlyZone Midwest!

Ford reportedly spent several million dollars in an audit of Ferrari factory assets and in legal negotiations, only to have Ferrari unilaterally cut off talks at a late stage due to disputes about the ability to direct open wheel racing. Ferrari, who wanted to remain the sole operator of his company's motor sports division, was angered when he was told that he would not be allowed to race at the Indianapolis 500 if the deal went through since Ford fielded Indy cars using its own engine, and didn't want competition from Ferrari. Enzo cut the deal off out of spite and Henry Ford II, enraged, directed his racing division to find a company that could build a Ferrari-beater on the world endurance-racing circuit.[8]
As the owner of a Ford GT40 MK1, I can tell you this is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. 1/43 scale but still awesome!
Anyone remember Aurora HO scale slot cars? My favorite car of the set we had as kids was the Ford GT; always the best handling, most well-balanced car to get around the track.

Well then, my mistake as I glossed over that part. Considering Superperformance does make a lot of cool replicas that are nearly identical to the real thing, I couldn't tell the difference. I didn't watch that One Take video so you'll have to excuse me for being ignorant.

@13432 2dkti3 No it's not. A true ford built GT40 ranges anywhere from 3-10 million all day long. A superformance GT40 which although was not built by ford, is in the shelby registry, goes for anywhere from 100k with a 331 stroker to 200k with a 427 big block. Roughly 60% of the superformance GT40 is interchangeable with an original GT40 but they do vary slightly. The superformance GT40 is by far the best option in terms of non original GT40s and nothing else compares to it. It's as close to the real thing as you can get without dropping over a million dollars.

Superformance replicas are really nice, I had the privilege of seeing some of the A/C Cobra and GT40 MKII's in person, and they are very well reproduced cars.

News flash: The GT40s that were racing at Le Mans MORE THAN 50 YEARS AGO were pushing 210+ mph DURING RACES with LESS than 450 horsepower
GT40s from 50 years ago with 400 horsepower can DEMOLISH modern 700 horsepower muscle cars in a drag race so don't be surprised. It's all about aerodynamics and power to weight ratio
FFS the McLaren F1, a near 30 Year old ROAD CAR with 600 horsepower, could do 242 mph. Nowadays only 1000 hp cars get there
Also the gt40 weighs like 2500 lbs. The hellcat has 700 hp but weighs over 4000 lbs and is aerodynamic as a brick

@Judge Dredd Don't forget that noise, emission laws and safety regulations make it difficult for highly aerodynamic and massively powerful (although inefficient) cars to make it to the production line. That's why production car engines have hit this 1500 hp ceiling (note that Porsche 917/30 can am which was also built 50 years ago pushed a massive 1600 horsepower during qualifying) while electric cars are going past 2000 and counting. We know that that's not the limit because there are tuned street legal cars that make 2000+ horsepower and have no problems being on the road daily, it's just because of noise, emission and safety laws that we are not seeing much progress
P.S. I know I talked a lot about power, but the main reason for this is the aerodynamics. Cars are no longer built so low and the front ends are much bulkier because they were considered dangerous to pedestrians and thus cars nowadays are much less aerodynamic so you need much more horsepower to get to the same top speed, even if the car is lighter. Also more powerful cars tend to produce a lot of downforce (they are built this way not only to achieve high speed cornering but also because it's safer) which ruins a car's top speed and straight line performance
If you are interested search "speed demon (car)". It makes 2500 horsepower and has a top speed of more than 450 mph. This is what not obeying rules gets you!

as a kid growing up in the 70's I used watch these Lemans and grand prix races with this GT40 going up against the Enzo Ferrari's and Lamborghini's, still fascinated with this car, i did like the unusual shapes of the lamborghinis as a kid

Power to weight is seen on the acceleration vs the 700 plus hp Hellcat that ran the same speed. GT probably weighs about half, or at least 1000-1400 less. See the race where the bike zips out ahead. That’s only 170 or so hp. But also 500 pounds or less total weight.
That car modded would be ridiculous. Ok, more ridiculous. With nearly 1000 hp that should eclipse the 200 mph barrier with ease. Not sure how the body would handle that high though, have to tune. But this car is setup for track time and has the right power for what he does.

Been saying this forever only ppl that don't understand this is ppl that don't know cars or anything about them. Racing depends on a lot of things. Most important is gear ratios. You can have a 1000 hp but if you have a semi gearing set up your only going 80 mph so what good does it do? Weight is also a problem only if your gearing is not set up for it. TQ is the most important for your engine... TQ is twisting force if your engine is not twisting it is not making HP SIMPLE AS THAT. like they say HP sells cars TQ moves them

That Engine Sounds like its putting out more than 450 HP my @$$ they only got that much HP out of that all $$Aluminum 427 Engine High End Induction & Exhaust System$$ hmm wonder if using Race Gas 105+ Octane for High Compression or does it use Pump gas 91-92 Low Comp. Octane Rating says it all on how Engine is built and what kind of HP Engine is going to make. Now days Abundance of New Tech Precision Made State of the Art Alloys in Valve Train Components Cam Profiles and CNC Cyl Head Porting that Engine has Potential 550-600HP eisely on High Octane and 500+HP on Pump and Car weighs less 2000 lbs should really FN Fly. Hellcats can't get power to the ground. That is their biggest problem. Worse than their heavy weight.

Seriously, the late model Vettes profiles resemble the GT-40 from the rear of the roof to the front of the hood. If you think it was impressive in the 1/4 mile, take both to Willow Springs, and run them wide open for 12 hours. The GT-40 can do it, and has done it many times......

Making fun of Ford's factories that employed thousands and Ferrari on the brink of closing it's factory. That's why I loved when Trump entered a room of European leaders at the NATO Summit and made sure they knew the new sheriff was in town. And made sure they knew he was putting America first. The charger hellcat makes so much more sense to me. Having driven the 392 multiple times I can tell you it's enough to not get bored of. That superformance is a grail car for me. $150k for basically a gt40.

Gabriel Lobo Aston Martin won Lemans this year and only because Corvette blew a tire on the last lap. Ford sandbagged the competition at last years race (which they should have been able to enter anyway) and were forced to modify their car to compete this year. Nice try though.

It's all about power to weight ratio, in this case the GT-40 has a big advantage!
rgbigdog you could add traction for the start. The GT 40 have advantage here to. All the heavy weight are on those rear wheels.
Which is also why hot motorcycles eat the GT's lunch, for about 1/50 the price.

I'm just addressing his completely false statement that adding weight is the best way to gain traction. Increasing normal force this way also increases the force required to accelerate at the same rate. His excuse trying to get out of it doesn't account for AWD vehicles either.

There used to be a factory near where I worked in Poole that made GT40 Replicas under licence, it was great to hear them rolling out for road tests

Grew up with Fords and still have a soft spot in my heart (head) for them. A purpose built race car that only needs to meet the pollution and safety standards of its time has a chance to compete with modern cars. Would you rather drive a GT-40 to work and back or a modern safe care with all the luxuries? Which one would you trust more in a crash?
Use modern technology, tires, suspension, geometry, traction control, aerodynamics and active system controls as a purpose built race car with the nearly unlimited $$ the Ford poured into the GT-40 and see what happens.
As a bonus take the gloves off and allow a modern car to run at the same air qualtiy fuel economy standards as the GT-40 and see who would win.

I can honestly says there is no better sounding engine out there then old school v8's. But this is on another level, nothing but headers I am drooling at the mouth whenever he gets on the gas.
Real down to earth no bullshit owner. And very brave in giving it numerous full throttle runs. Blowing that would be VERY expensive.

Incredibly beautiful machine. Where form and function meet and make one helluva race car. The first time I ever saw one, way back when... it just seemed like a light from above came down and anointed it. The Ford GT and GT-40 are icons, and no one can take that away!
