    From my understanding, meditation was used to train the mind to remain calm during actual fighting so that you could think clearly about what you were doing.
    I once while just lightly kicking a concrete block managed to break it into two parts. I tried again with other blocks but all I got was a bruised foot. From watching my uncle, a brickmason split bricks with a trowel, I understood it had to do with the angle and not the force of a blow which tends to break a hard object.

    2:43 - "I focused my chi into my jaw, and two minutes later I had this beard. However, I need to practice more on the concentration of my chi, as this tiny mustache was an unintended side-effect. Now, if you will excuse me, I must go and shave using the air currents from my hand movements so that I may try again."

    @Pr0b3U the sounds are real, the reason they dont match in time the visual picture is because the picture is slowed down but the sound is left in it's original speed. It's a kinda immature editing "mistake", but they might have done it on purpose, so that the sound doesnt get distorted.

    @skydreampirate Yeah, the horse stance is probably one of the most painful to endure over long periods of time, the average person can't hold it for for than a few minutes. I know masters have to be able to hold it for hours. The strain it puts on your thighs is incredible.

    As I undertsand it. You can most likely be taught kung fu but not become a monk and that is because to be a monk you go through rigouus testing as a child and only a few are selected to become warrior monks...the rest simply become monks...it is also literally a life time dedicataion...but u can learn shaolin style kung fu at the temple...well a center near it anyways

  • @gamrage
    @gamrage 15 років тому

    @shannonjazz Well, one of the most popular stances is a basic boxing stances called the "cat stance" Shaolin Kung fu uses that stance as well..

    @aqstoy not familiar with exact rules of shaolin monks.. but i'll answer in general so that u can get a basic idea about the lifestyle of a monk.. girls can learn kung fu but i dont think they are allowed to be at the shaolin temple. and no you can't get married while you're a monk because the whole idea of being a monk is to be rid of all the worldly desires and seek out the "Truth". they'll just spend their life as monks.. and ur question about home falls under worldly desires too..

    I have to jump in regarding their skull hardening exercises, I will be having my fourth brain surgery next year (2 in 1979, 1 in 1993, and my next in 12012) so I would HIGHLY recommend against skull hardening!! I put my info in to let everyone to know brain surgery aint' fun, and it always comes with some kind of damage!! Do they understand about the brain inside the skull, it ain't going to get to get tougher, you are jusd hing ho un on ro roblems... ralway'w!!

    break sticks, bang your head...? and those sounds every time they move...?!
    when he says that I got the impression he's mocking them, like why would a sane man do that??
    I think this documentary misses the spiritual part of shaolin...it'l like something made by Hollywood *shudders*, flashy... I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that those who made the documentary show enough respect for shaolin...

    i know what you mean, but i think you misunderstand kungfu. at least in shaolin, kunfu was invented for two reasons, 1 fight for security, 2 keep healthy because monks have to sit long time every day for praying. i also believe this is why chinese kungfu is superior to japan and korean, because it is much more than just fighting.
