Wow! The part where he said his mother had saved all the money he had sent her, knowing he might one day need it was very selfless and powerfull😢.. Also him talking about how he was not there when his parents passed on and the regret he has for not spending more time with them hits home for me also.. Family is everything and I think in this day and age of "self righteousness" we have for the majority lost the true sight of what really matters most "Our families".. May we all reflect upon this and do what is right, and make time in our "busy lives" to reach out to the ones we love and keep a close relationship with them and cherish what little time we have here on this earth with them because life is but a vapor..🙏

I am a healer in America and my heart broke for you, I am of Chinese and Spanish decent and bind both worlds of healing ,the pain you suffered is unique to you in your experiences and for others it has claimed lives but for you the difference is you are sharp as a sword because you went through fire then were beaten and each time you felt weaker but like a well forged sword to become strong it had to be folded over its self time and time again .Your physical strength and skill will never defeat the emotional burden of the soul that is a different type of strength and must be combatted inside. I have done many things in my short time on this Earth and I will never master anything on this Earth or claim to but I have learned many things from you over a short period of time and am honored you humbled yourself to show who you truly are.

Shifu Yan Lei, I am 57 years old, and I sometimes get sad that it took me so long to realize that all the materialism I struggled for, for so long, left me feeling empty, lonely and abandoned.
I have no desire for it anymore.
I have a new heart now, a new desire, to be free of things, to only have what I build with my own hands, to only eat what I plant, nurture, grow & harvest, whatever I fish for, or hunt, and to cook on what I forge, everything I want to make with my own two hands, not with tools another man or machine made. I only want to work for myself, on my land and focus on building and maintaining my strength, my skills, learning from men like you.
You are inspiring! Don't put value in the words of those who don't value your worth, because that can block you from those who do value your worth.
I lived a hard life, from birth, disease, defects, from a 9 year old child I suffered violence, I've struggled my whole life just to have everything taken from me, to be reduced in value only by what possessions I had.
It's not about what we have, it's about what we do. I once was a slave to materialism, and it drained the life from me, but I am free now to pursue the things that matter.

The American Dream used to be about that, but it turned into a system in which you're entire livelihood rests upon the Elites, and if anything happens to you that impedes on your ability to jump through their hoops, you can potentially lose everything you worked for, and then you discover what a cold son-of-a-bitch the American Dream is. And then all your loved ones & friends treat you as if you were a substance abuser, or as if you have some secret addiction that caused your age and stress related health problems. LOL! What a cluster f***.
      The Rat Race be damned!

I relate a lot with what he says. My Master gave me an excellent example one day, "Imagine you are born with a million dollars, so you spent a lot without any care. But when you only have maybe 10 thousand or less you start to save it, but it´s already to late". You need to focus early on in life and do things that you love to do, because if you dont you won´t have enough time to achieve it when you are older. In a world where we are always focused on speed this is something that millions of people are missing.

Without discipline you are nothing but a moving mass full of ego and insecurities , with discipline you are someone with purpose ! If this man who went through all this , since his childhood can achieve so much and in his age of 45 can be in such a wonderful shape , normally someone would think that people from "developed" countries would be even better , but ...they are not ! Why ??? myself included of course , because we become lazy .

very beautiful impressions. I guess we often think shaolin monks are like robots and it was kind of nice to see that they have a emotional side and a backstory too. Wish you all the best and keep up the good work. I hope many people will see this documentary

Yes it is easy to forget other humans are human, once they become uniform. Because once they do, they become cogs in a machine, a participal in a thing that is not human.

With much respect I say you have a beautiful life. Wish my life was more like yours shifu.
I'm struggling with infections in my head they don't know where or what it is. My ears ring everyday and I have dizziness and very low energy level and severe headaches . I used to box up till 3 years ago and I felt great then. Now some days are so bad I would love for God to just take me away and end things here
Shifu you remind me of the inspiration and strength I used to feel where I could do anything and had no fear

Such an inspiration. I did an instructors course in 2012 for Chinese Health Qigong Wu Qin Xi and Yi Jin Jing and try to practice every single day...even if only for 5 minutes. I ordered your Yan Lei Instant Health Shaolin Qigong Workout For Longevity about 3 weeks ago. I can't wait for it to arrive here in Australia and to start from scratch again in Ba Duan Jin. I feel humbled being able to learn from a real Shaolin teacher and happy to get the book personally signed too! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and humility.

Thank you for giving us some insight into your life and your feelings. You must be training the wrong people, I'm English and I have trained with people from all over the world and found that some are snowflakes and some are not. You can shout, swear and hit me and most of the people I know. That's how we were brought up. As I said before I love your honesty! Deepest thanks and Respect.

Craving validation will only arm outer mind... Internal kung fu is harmonizing ones light and dark. Ones inner mind (ones essence ) needs the roots of outer mind for the flower of inner mind to bloom. If one lets go of impassive inquiry, one sees themselves in an others eyes. Compassion to self is compassion to others. 🙏
