Hey, nice watch! My daily wearer is the Prs-47! Personally, I love the tropical look and the baton hands. And it pays homage to a watch my grandpa used to have that he got in vietnam (rolex commando). But I love the everest very much as well.
nice something about the explorer keeps me up at night but its tragically far out of my budget. Have you had good luck with this watch? Have you got it pretty wet? (pools, ocean ETC) thanks!
When I heard Smiths was on Everest. This was the best alternative to the Rolex Explorer for me. I got this because the Rolex Explorer was then 39mm and I wanted the 36mm. Hence why when the 124270 was released. I lost my brain!
Both Smiths and Rolex were present during the trip. Hillary likely wore both watches during the trip. His partner Tenzing Norgay definitely wore a Rolex to the summit. Neither original model is similar to the watch you are wearing, so it isn’t a tribute or homage. If the design is original to the brand, it is considered an ‘archive revival’….
I could never pay 600 for this watch when they are so many good 1016 homages out there. I just recently bought Addiesdive explorer homage with pt5000 automatic movement for just under € 130 and honestly I couldn’t be more happy. It’s such a good watch for little money. But Smiths is a phenomenal watch as well that I’d loved to own but not for that price.
It’s not a Rolex for sure - but it’s also not an original Smiths either. (Smiths were made in the UK originally.) It’s a homage of a Smiths Everest . The new owner Eddie purchased the Smiths label and the watch is made in China using massed produced cookie cutter parts that are also used in millions of other homeages from Chinese factories. So essentially you have a cheap Chinese factory made watch. It’s not bad if you paid $200-300 for it, because Chinese brands like San Martin are knocking out similar watches at this price point.
Dude! At $600 you were had. I sold my prs-47 on Chrono24 for £350, and that’s better than the 25. FWIW, it’s an ok watch. Reasonably good value for money at £300 but certainly not worth more.

These watches are really cool, and I'm more in the Rolex/Omega price bracket, but really you had me at Ben Tennyson!!
Oh I thought you have Space-Dweller

Rolex have never actually claimed their watch was worn to the summit. Smiths did. Explicitly.

I went down this same rabbit hole of trying to find the best Rolex homage and ended up with the Zeno Zex 36mm check out my review! 😊
